SignalCheck - Android app to monitor your Wi-Fi/2G/3G/4G LTE/5G-NR signal strengths

I am going to pull out my EVO LTE phone and see if this just happens on the HTC One. But when I'm connected eHRPD, Signal Check seems to show a status for LTE. Here are 2 screen shots one connected eHRPD and the other LTE. I'm running version 4.14.

Ugh here we go again with the stale LTE signals! Boooo.. I think your EVO LTE will be fine, that's my primary testing device and I have never seen that bug on it. Do you have "Show hidden data" disabled on the Preferences screen?

Isn't the first shot showing the stale LTE data? I think you can turn that off in the settings.

Yes, it is turned on.  Is that the default?  I did not turn it on. I will uncheck it.

Should Samsung devices show Carrier Unknown for LTE?

Today's post has been brought to you by Sprint, the letters GN and the number 2.

Yes, that seems to be what several other apps see as well. You will see 310120 right when it connects to LTE but then most of the time it goes to 310000.

Oh, those Samsung "enginerrs."  They must be woozy from all of the plastic fumes.

Yep, several people did.. not trying to be rude, but if you just look a few posts ahead of yours, it's all there. There is an update to the update. :)

Check Google Play, you should see a newer version that fixes it, 4.14.

Hmm.. I thought I had a workaround for that bug, but I guess it's not working. Samsung likes to be difficult! I will check into it some more.

So two things. While I was typing my original post here, I got the 800 alert, lasted for 3 seconds, I saw 1X800 in the toolbar of the phone, dropped it down, clicked it and it was gone when Sig al check opened. It definitely showed all my normal tower information, and the SID was 22429. Nothing else changed. I know they have not worked on my tower, so that phantom 800 thing seems to exist, or, all the other tower information had failed to update. No, I didn't get the screen shot of it. I guess it's possible a distant signal struck, and the rest of the information had not updated, but I am sitting on my couch watching football, and it's 1030 on a Saturday night, seems unlikely work is going on at this hour.

Anyway, true point of my post. I read a few back, but don't understand in layman's terms, what is the point of the hex value in 1x BID? My local tower is all numbers, which is different from every other tower I have looked at. What is the value telling me?

Running your premiere prl digi. I went from the 65010 one to 511 today, maybe that's a clue? No airrave around I know about and I have insanely good signal here, so all my neighborhood does too (no need for airraves)

digiblur's PRL is having a premiere?  Where?  Will there be red carpet?  All of the S4GRU bigwigs should be there.

Alright, so I just brought the dog out before bed, and got the alert again. Maybe the SID I saw before was wrong, because I got 2 seperate, legit, 800 hits. I got screens of both, but only map of one, I lost the Prospect one before I could click it after getting the screen shot. I guess my prl change today has paid dividends.

Either way, the tower I mapped is a good 25 miles away. The other one, if in Prospect CT, is at least the same distance, maybe farther. Pretty damn impressive.

Tonight was the exact reason I got this app. I am happy I am finally getting some fun with it in my home area.

I had a dream last night that I was in Jacksonville and picked up a 800 mhz signal on Signal Check while driving and was frantically trying to report it in the Jacksonville market threat but I couldn't get a screen capture. I need to seriously limit the amount of time I spend here before bed..

I am willing to bet that all 3 instances of 800 that you saw were legitimate.  A usable 800 SMR signal has shown to work over much greater distances than most of us are used to seeing with PCS.  A lot of 800 upgrades are in progress, even though the S4GRU maps might not seem to show too much activity right now.  You are probably only catching quick glimpses of the signal because you have a stronger PCS signal from closer sites that your device is selecting.

Around the Boston market, I am on 800 often and all of the site information is identical to what shows for each site on the 1900 MHz side, except for the SID.

Glad to hear the app is giving you some good news!  It will only get better...

Mike,

I stopped using the app for a few weeks and in the intervening weeks went from decks CM10.1 nightly which showed serving cell to decks CM10.2 nightly and now I'm not seeing serving cell or GCI. I'm running 4.14b. Anything you're aware of that might have removed this? Thanks for the great app and all of your hard work.

I knew 800 SMR was good but this is UNBELIEVABLE! !!!! I picked up 800 just north of Raleigh Sunday from a Site in Peabody, MA.

Seriously though, glad to finally pick up something even it's the testing SID.  At least it means they're starting to deploy in the Raleigh area.  Good news for me soon at my house since we don't get a great signal here.

Peabody!!! Gee that is impressive.. that 620-mile shot just might beat digiblur's record for furthest distance from an 800 site.....

    • Kind of amazing that T-Mobile is still holding onto that speed title despite Verizon all but killing off lowband 5G on their network. While Verizon is mostly being evaluated on mmWave and C-band performance, T-Mobile and AT&T's average 5G speeds include their massive lowband 5G networks that are significantly slower.
    • 5G in the U.S. – Additional Mid-band Spectrum Driving Performance Gains T-Mobile holds on to it's lead in 5G Speed
    • Yup. Very true. We were originally on an Everything Data 1500 Plan, which got Unlimited Minutes thanks to Marcelo's "Loyalty Benefits" offer. We then switched to Unlimited Freedom (with the Free HD add-on that Sprint originally wanted $20/month per line for.... remember that?) because the pricing was better with "iPhone for Life", vs. the "Loyalty Credit" for staying on a Legacy Plan. After that, I ran the numbers and switched us over to Sprint MAX, especially for the international travel benefits. There's absolutely no reason for us to switch to Go5G Plus or Go5G Next if we're going to do BYOD by purchasing from Apple/Samsung/Google directly as we've been doing. These new plans aren't priced for current customers to switch to. They're priced for new customers, where they throw in a free line, etc. It's gone from "Uncarrier" to "Carrier". What a shame.
    • Strange business model that they keep around all these pricing plans. 1000s of plans per carrier is reportedly not uncommon.  Training customer support must be a nightmare. Even MVNOs have legacy plans. A downside of their contract mentality I guess. Best to change contracts during a recession. But then all carriers try to squeeze out legacy plan benefits as they grow old.
    • Everything "Uncarrier" is becoming "Carrier" again. Because of the Credit Limit that T-Mobile put on our account for no reason at all (and wouldn't change/update the last time I checked all the way up to the CEO), I don't plan on buying/upgrading our iPhones through T-Mobile. I'm going through Apple directly. Looks like I'll be going through Google and Samsung directly for our other lines for upgrades. Also, we're staying on Sprint Max given the ridiculous pricing for Go5G Plus. On Sprint Max, we currently pay for our Plan: $260 for 7 Voice Lines $25 for two Wearable Lines. (One is $10/Month. The other is $15/Month because the AutoPay discount only applies up to 8 lines.) Total: $285/Month vs. Go5G Plus (Per the Broadband Facts "nutrition label" on the T-Mobile Website): https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce/cell-phone-plans $360 - ($5 AutoPay Discount x 7 Voice Lines) = $325 The Watch Plans show as either $12/Month or $15/Month: https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/affordable-data-plans/smartwatches So this is about the same for the wearables as what we're paying now. Overall, it's quite more than we're paying now to switch plans. Ridiculous....
