HTC One preview thread (was "Any M7 takers?")

Can this promo also be used with persons on/under a sprint employee line?

Just a reminder, it looks like today (April 4th) is the last day to sign up for the $100 gift card.

Also, I wonder if they have any way of verifying whether the devices we send in are actually active on our account at the time of purchase. Anyone have any thoughts? I mean, I don't have a problem activating my Mogul when I make my preorder, but I don't know if they might argue that the time of purchase is when it ships.

I can't see why not ... as long as the person has a device to trade in and can show proof of purchasing the One as specified.

I will be preordering online. I'm currently at work doing a maintenance so if it last past 12am I was going to check if the preorder site was live.

Wouldn't be surprised since its packing the new Snapdragon 600 chipset.

Just called my buddy at my local corporate Sprint store, and he told me $50 down. Awesome!

But isn't this more of a "Give us $50 and we put your name on a list" ? Its not the same as pre-ordering on the sprint website.

Guys, the Snapdragon 600 (APQ8064T) is just a processor. This time last year, the hot chipset was the MSM8960, which is both processor and baseband modem. But the Snapdragon 600 has to use the separate MDM9615 baseband. So, the Snapdragon 600 has relatively little to do with talk time, since the screen is typically off, the processor mostly powered down during CDMA1X voice usage.

You were right. That's all it was. I put $70 down, and was the first person to pre-order. All I know is I will be there when the doors open on the 19th.

It was thoughtful of them to take the site down the first day of the presale.

Oddly, there is usually something that happens when launching (this time pre-orders) the latest hot phone. Not sure why that is.

That's your private code, you need to edit and remove that picture unless you aren't planning to use it!

Yes, please take out your code!

Back on topic, I am ready to order this phone..but i have a bit of trepidation because of the way the EvoLTE handles LTE signals (or the lack thereof). Im usually ready to throw my phone in the trash when using a 3g signal..

Just FYI, I asked Brian Klug at AnandTech about engineering screens on the HTC One. He said that, going forward, HTC will not include engineering screens in its final build ROMs because at least one carrier complained. Now, the Sprint variant HTC One could be an exception to this rule -- the EVO LTE certainly was in relation to the One X. But unless that is the case and the Sprint variant does include engineering screens, it will not be a great wireless network monitoring handset.

I'm concerned about the same thing myself. I'm not eligible for an upgrade at the time, but I may pick up one out of contract if they really are as great as everyone is hyping it up to be. I'm waiting for others on here to get it and see what kind of feedback they provide regarding it's ability to connect to and maintain LTE, especially given how much progress MI has seen as of late with LTE coming online.

Anyone know if the nexus s 4g or epic 4g are eligible for the $100 deal. Otherwise, I'll have sprint bump my upgrade up 2 months.

Where can you find out if your phone qualifies? When i try to look up if its ok it just wants me to go through the process to get the $100.

You can go through the process to see how much they will give you for a device. You are not obligated to follow through with it.

    • Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are more Link5G sites as there are Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T small cells combined in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them.  — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and could potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.  — — — — — The old permit expired for this site without any work being done but a new permit was just approved a few days ago for a T-Mobile site at this address. Description mentions 3 antennas with 2 RRUs per sector. My guess is they're doing something similar to what they did at 360 Furman St in Brooklyn where they broadcast Band 2/66 and n25/41 from one antenna. It's a bit of a downgrade considering the site it's replacing was a full build with Ericsson 6449s.
    • Still not seeing any ULS postings for pending T-Mobile UScellular merger in Dane county Wisconsin.
    • Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
