Well great news for me tonight. My posts from last month.

Got home, and noticed the typical every once in a while LTE being at the signal strength being outside of my driveway, then switches over just before I walk inside the door. Well tonight, I finally have LTE inside the house! I did a PRL update to see if it would possibly switch back over to 3G, and it didn't! So far, LTE signals are ranging from -106 dBm to -109 dBm. I did a speedtest. Something must've went down today. I will check sometime tomorrow, and see if there's anything different.

Spark is now active in Vista. Noticed when I was sitting at light on Vista Village Dr/78 freeway overpass earlier this evening. Speeds aren't jaw dropping, but very happy to see North County getting B41 quickly! I was also picking up signals heading through Oceanside Blvd/Melrose Dr on the backside of Vista.

It will be jaw dropping once they activate 2x20Mhz on B41 and then CA on B41.

Also please post in Premier with the site id with the lat/lon to have it added to the maps.  I found some more today in National City.  By summer, we should have at least 50% B41 throughout the city.

Yes it's LTE now. Took SignalCheck screenshot sitting in parking lot about 100 ft from it, along with speed test about 2 blocks from my house. No new antennas, but they did something underground. How come I get a weaker signal inside my house, when the site is pretty much around the corner? Unless I'm connected to the other stealth tower that's a mile away.

You're connecting to the light pole stealth site. Notice the GCI numbers match.

There are quite a few reasons for the low signal.

First and foremost, you're inside. Buildings generally cut your signal strength by 10dB or more, depending on the construction.

Second, the site is a GMO (using old antennas). Sprint prefers not to put LTE on GMOs because they generally perform fairly poor due to the antennas not being designed for LTE.

Third, if there are any obstacles, a tree even, between you and the site it's going to cut the signal considerably.

Finally, it is a short, stealth site. These sites generally have a very, very small coverage pattern.

Ok, makes sense now about the low signal reasons. Yes the site is short, and across the street, there are some trees in front of a few 2 story houses, with concrete walls in the neighborhood, going north to south that is a little taller than this site (not the walls) that's a mile or more in distance, along with some other smaller homes behind those tall houses. Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Most likely this site no B26 unless they replace the antennas..?

You probably get much better LTE signal when Sprint starts deploying B26.  Hopefully this site gets new antennas.

Another Spark site in National City.  Next to Paradise Hospital.  Looks like backhaul not up to speed as it topped off at 30Mbps.

Here's another site in Vista, on N. Melrose that was fast! Pulled off into a parking lot and did a speed test.

Fastest I've seen here also! I installed Sensorly, and did a speed test on that. Second test I pulled 60 down.

Not sure what is going on but I have been having TERRIBLE service in Mission Valley, National City Mile of Cars most of all, and Escondido. I am mostly on 3G in these places 90% of the time.

Had an emergency on Friday, mother in law in hospital, and I couldn't even load Maps to get the hospitals address! texts coming in 5-10 minutes late. Unacceptable. I live in La Mesa and even here service is pretty shitty. Feels like I am on 3G when using LTE.

I have the S5 on latest PRL.

Welcome to S4GRU.  There are some sites in those areas that are waiting on backhaul for LTE to go live.  The neighboring sites in those areas will get overloaded until it comes online.

LTE in San Diego will feel like 3G until we see more Spark sites which is getting activated weekly from my tracking.   I have reported numerous sites in Mission Valley that has Spark which helps significantly.  I get average speeds over 10Mbps when connected to those sites.   Once we have Spark widespread with multiple carriers coming online, it can only get better.

Hi Julio,

I'm sorry to hear about your mother-in-law, I hope that everything has turned out OK.

I live in Spring Valley, and my son lives in La Mesa. I feel your pain! I drive around the county every day, and I depend upon Google Maps for directions.

But things are getting better. I'm sitting outside with my wife at Grossmont Center right right now, and I have a pretty nice LTE signal. I haven't seen any Band 41 in San Diego yet, but after taking a look at how this thread has blown up in the last week, I'm going to keep a closer eye on Signal Check!

Have a great evening,

John

Thanks for the Respones  jsage and bucdenny. I am so close to switching to T-Mobile at the moment from all the frustration the last 2 years. I also want the new S6 Edge LOL :rasp:

T-Mobile can only go so far in San Diego.  Sprint in San Diego can only get better with the B41 and B26 aka 800Mhz.  We just recently moved all our lines from T-Mobile to Sprint, simply because Sprint has improved significantly.  It can only get better as T-Mobile is getting more congested even with their wideband deployment.

Heck, I just got back from Las Vegas, was on B41 near 90% of the time.  Las Vegas doesn't even have B26 and it was great.  Imagine with 20+20+20 of B41 with all the indoor B26 coverage.  Sprint can only get better.

T-Mobile is also great in San Diego in terms of LTE speeds, but again they have their troubling spots too! They can only go so far with their 15x15 wideband.  Sprint has plenty of B41 and is actively deploying in San Diego.

Band 41 inside Sharp Memorial Hospital in Linda Vista, this morning:

According to Signal Check, I held onto Band 41 all the way south down 805 from Sharp Memorial to Adams Ave, where the freeway curves going up hill. Nice!

Hi Marv,

The RSRP was below @lilotimz' threshhold for reporting. But I will be back in that area next week, so I'll grab a screenshot when I'm outside of the building. SignalCheck shows all the info needed, except for Cascade ID. I know that's on the various maps, but do you know how to find it from my phone? I checked the SignalCheck log, but didn't see anything resembling a Cascade ID.

Thanks!

John

    • Two s24 ultras, both say fully up to date. One has T-Mobile and Verizon network, Service provider software version 17, carrier config version 2, and few apps [google play system March 1], other with T-Mobile, Dish Rainbow Sim, Verizon Network (inactive), Service provider software version 19, no carrier config, and many apps [Google play system April 1]
    • Since T-Mobile is testing the fiber waters for a time when FWA needs to be paired back, here is an article comparing the two costs (performance differences not mentioned): https://www.fierce-network.com/broadband/nextlink-ceo-compares-fixed-wireless-fiber.
    • Checked and found a 2.7mb Google Play System 'security' update pending.   Post install the update date still showing April 1st however.
    • The May security update is out.
    • A new SignalCheck Pro update is now available on Google Play! Notable changes: Improved duplicate LTE GCI cleanup function. Duplicates with the greater number of recorded connection 'hits' will now be kept. Duplicate entries appear for a variety of reasons but can cause neighbor cell notes to display improperly. Strongly recommend running this cleanup function occasionally. Improved site note logging functionality. Better matching of co-located cells and prior Sprint sites. Overhauled display functions to fully re-sync all information when reopening app or with swipe-down gesture. The swipe-down gesture now essentially restarts the core functions of the app. Other changes: Added 5G-NR band to notification pulldown title. Added accent colors for additional wireless providers. Added option to disable street address geocoding when editing a site note; coordinates will populate instead. Code optimizations and enhancements. Improved identification of unregistered 5G-NR cells. Improved LTE PLMN identification on some devices. Resolved issue with log import proceeding when log backup fails. Resolved issue with some 5G-NR connections displaying improper band. Resolved issue with some 5G-NR neighbor cells displaying improper band. Updated internal libraries. As always, I appreciate everyone's support. Dual SIM bugs are *still* being ironed out but it is a priority to resolve. Thanks!
