Just did a couple of speed tests here in Aguadilla in my worksite where I usually have no data. This is in road 110. I found it odd since the phone reports 1x at the moment. The phone is an Epic 4g Touch running cm10.

As an previous onwer of the Epic 4G Touch I can tell you the radios arent that great. I just think that Samsung is doing a poor job on all CDMA device.

 

You shouldn't say all. The E4GT radio performance testing was average in our testing, the GNex and Epic 4G were poor, but the GS3 was among the best. Samsung device radio performance pretty much is all over the place. But they are not all poor.

Airave arrived and its simply amazing. The only issue I have with it is that the signal strength in my room is spotty but thats kinda my fault for having my modem near the front door of my house. I am thinking of calling my ISP and arranging a tech to move my modem somewhere in the center of the hause.

 

Also, I'm going to go pick up my epic 4g touch today after classes. I can't wait to get rid of the Gnex.

You configure the access point to act as a repeater. And its like you have two routers with the same ssid in your house.

 

Another option is to buy a dd-wrt supported router. These routers are sometimes cheaper than access points. DD-WRT is a custom firmware you upload to the router and it will give you a lot more options like using the router as a repeater.

I just found out that the home I'm renting for college has an extra phone jack near the kitchen(its a DSL connection) all i have to do is check if the jack is working and then i'll move both devices. (airave and modem)

 

Another thing I'll have to do is check if the GPS cable is long enough to reach my kitchen window.

 

so far, I'm just glad that I have coverage inside the house without getting dropped calls .

 

Sprint should design the next airave with built in wifi

a big +1 for a DD-WRT configured repeater, not only for conveniently placing the Airave in a nice spot near a window, but for also extending WiFi range to all rooms in the house

Yeah the airave seem pretty good at first but after some time you start seeing the cons, for example txt messages will get stuck sending and it will end up sending 10 to 20 of the same mesage.s It starts slowing down your internet quite a lot, to the point where I could barely play online on my PS3. Also something that usually happened is where people would call me and they couldnt hear me so I would have to call them back. Not huge problems but definetly annoying. I ended up unpluging it and havent used it in 2 months.

Yep. I had the txt msg problem. It's really annoying. I haven't had any problems with internet slow down or the incoming call problem

Powercycle the device. If that doesn't resolve it, call Sprint. It might be defective.

Power cycling the device does help, but just for a few. It will do the same thing again. It's a known problem with the airave. If you don't text that much you probably won't notice.

So its a huge plus for me. I'll keep an eye out for the text issue though.

Did you make sure all the correct ports are forwarded to the airave in the router?

I have a Dmax thomson 782 modem/router...everything seems fine, is there something that I should check?
