I live at "Sultana" but behind my house there is a gigantic mountain and it creates a kind of a blackhole for all cellphone carriers.... Hence I own the "airave" unit free of cost!!!

Wow lots of new site in PR over the last week (13). They seem to be working their way around the island from the south. Not sure if NV 3G means they are ready to go 4G when the time comes.

I remember reading that Puerto Rico would be the first market to use the 800mhz frequency for LTE. Does anybody know if this is true. I guess sprint controls those frequencies down here from the Nextel deal and has not been using them.

I think the 4g core still needs to be completed

I went to Aguadilla today and tested the speeds using my evo 4g I got 1.3mb down and using my nexus right next to it I got 100kbps and a ton of delayed text messages.

I gave up and agreed to switch the Nexus to the Epic 4g Touch. Sprint will be swapping it on wednesday when the refurb unit arrives.

I gave the Nexus a fair chance but after having it replaced 4 times I simply gave up on it. Sprint has serious issues with the way the network communicates with that specific phone.

I had to change my EVO4g for the new EVOLTE CUZ I ran over it with a truck.....accidentally. and I saw the difference in performance right away...

that doesn't sound like a fair trade, sounds a bit more like a downgrade, the Epic 4G Touch does not have LTE, right? nonetheless, I hope you have a better experience with the Epic, I know what it's like stuck with sub-200k speeds

Why would you downgrade to a Epic 4G touch...

An Epic 4g touch (GS2) is more of a sidegrade/minor upgrade in terms of performance. Great for areas where you're not seeing NV/LTE till next year but have wimax at least but in an active LTE deployment market...hmm..

Also believe that Evo 4g LTE has a bunch of connectivity issues if reading around these parts and other areas give any hints. In fact, i believe robert (s4gru) wrote about it in one of the past articles.

it'd probably be more useful if we had WiMax coverage down here, but there's only the randomly located protection sites

That sucks man! How are you liking the new evo?

Because I got 4 replacement Nexus phones and they all had issues. I'm taking the Epic 4g touch because my mother has one and it has been solid.

My upgrade is due soon so I won't miss out on much.

Sure it doesn't have LTE, but NV is helping it. Also I rather have a solid ICS phone with a 4.5 inch screen over a tiny phone with a mediocre screen and android 2.3(yes LG Viper, I'm pointing at you!)

Also, I got sprint to ship me an airave, which should arrive tomorrow :)

Yep.... It sucked BiiiiiG time but I was already elegible for an upgrade and sprint store at western plaza honored me the $149.99 price from radio shack and gave me $52.00 for my old EVO.... SO a HUNDRED bucks discount was enough for me to do it

Bout liking it.... I've had it for about a week now and everything has gone 100% till now..... So a very happy ME :D I've even experienced the NV on several areas in Mayagüez (refering to the maintaining the 3g while on a phone call) so till now its aaaallllll GOOD!!!!

Ohh I almost forgot.... The battery has been working super fine..... Averaging bout 12-16 hours per full charge.....and believe me I am a heavy user....

that doesn't sound so bad, then! the Airave is a huge help when at home and it seems the network's better in your area than mine, good luck with the new phone !

As an previous onwer of the Epic 4G Touch I can tell you the radios arent that great. I just think that Samsung is doing a poor job on all CDMA device.

    • I really apreciate no longer seeing n38 for T-Mobile. My s24 Ultra is reporting that Signalcheck Pro is crashing frequently.  It has the latest updates. I do occassional change sims and band preferences. Let me know if you need anything else.   Thanks.
    • Spent a lot of time in Westchester this weekend, specifically Yonkers and White Plains. I mapped three AT&T Nokia -> Ericsson conversions. I was super impressed with T-Mobile's macro density and not so much with AT&T's. In Yonkers it seems like T-Mobile macros outnumber AT&T macros 3 to 1 and in White Plains, 2 to 1. Another surprise was the lack of small cells on AT&T in both cities. While Cellmapper shows White Plains having no small cells, I did manage to find one in the Church Street neighborhood. While it's only one, it's an indication to me that T-Mobile intends on expanding n41 density with small cells in the city. On the other hand, in Yonkers T-Mobile has a ton of LTE small cells but none of them have been upgraded to 5G yet as far as I can tell. Crown Castle has been moving super fast in NYC and Long Island to upgrade and install new 5G small cells so I can only assume it's either a permitting or backhaul issue that's stopping them from moving full steam ahead there. — — — — — Came across this cool site in Yonkers with Verizon, T-Mobile, and Dish present.
    • Other two sectors finally installed. Hopefully it goes live soon though I know from past experience that these new builds can take weeks and in some cases months to go live.
