Network Vision/LTE - San Diego Market

Was on interstate 5/805 split towards 52, found multiple 2nd carrier B25?  Can someone confirm if the GCI is in fact 2nd carriers?  If it is, this would be the first 2nd carrier B25 spotted in San Diego.

Standard ALU added carrier (B25 or 41) is #9, #A, #B.

EARFCN 26109 / 8109 corresponds to carrier center frequency at 1936.9 / 1856.9.

In San Diego County, Sprint is licensed the entire PCS A block 30 MHz from 1850-1865 / 1930-1945 MHz.

1936.9 would place 5 MHz FDD-LTE carrier right in the middle from 1934.4 -1939.4 MHz.

So yes. You found Sprints 2nd B25 carrier in San Diego.

We received news that numerous major Alcatel-Lucent markets were farming PCS over the summer so with you finding it I expect rest of Southern California and areas like New York City to have it soon as well.

Locked onto B41 in Oceanside (O'side Harbor) passing by heading back south from San Clemente earlier this evening on the 5. I happened to take a quick glance, and noticed GCI ended with "A" on SignalCheck. Was that 2nd carrier?

Couldn't get a screenshot to verify.

Most of B41 in San Diego has second carrier and CA enabled.

I've been noticing a couple of spots in Oceanside that has been on 1x for the past week. One of these locations is a 3 mile or so stretch on the backside of Douglas Dr where I live. Yes there is a LTE GMO site on each end of this stretch. In between has always been a dead zone for not having Sprint service as long as I can remember over the years. There is also a couple of large neighborhoods in that area. I did notice for the first time, is a new site setup that just went up standing in between the 2 other sites. Below is a pic. Is this Sprint?

Nope. Those antennas and tower mounted amplifier points towards the other three carriers.

I got home from work not long ago, pulled into my driveway and heard my roaming alert. I looked at Signal Check, and noticed I'm on Sprint LTE, and Verizon 1x. Weird. Has anyone else seen this before on your phone?

Not possible on a Triband phone. But is on a Uniband phone and happened all the time. You can only be on 1x or LTE at any one time on a Triband device. It is either a Android reporting error or SCP error.

It looks like your device is actually just on 1x roaming, and the LTE data is stale.

No. It's just the second Band 25 carrier that Sprint has fired up as they have refarmed the spectrum from CDMA.

Here's another in that stage I found this afternoon in Oceanside just off the 5/Oceanside Blvd, about a half mile, to a mile away from a newly live B41site that has CA.

This site in Oceanside has been live for about a week and a half. I stopped by, and it has CA. Can somone explain to me what's the difference to "A" and "B" when it comes to CA. I couldn't find anything on here explaining the diffrence, unless I overlooked it. I also took screenshots of this site being both A and B CA while driving around in the parking lot, and captured a screenshot of it without CA along with speedtests for each. Verizon also share this site.

It does not appear that Carrier Aggregation is live on this site. Notice that there is no information populating the SCC fields on your engineering screen. That means you do not have a secondary carrier connected on your device. You are simply connecting to the second B41 carrier, but it is not being aggregated.

In regards to the "A" and "B", that just denoting your sector. Just like 01, 02, 03 showed you the alpha, beta and gamma sectors on B25, 31, 32, and 33 show the same respective sectors on B41. 39, 3A, 3B show the same sectors, just on the second carrier.

Thanks for explaining that. This morning I've been noticing way more B25 carrier in North County this morning. Is this occuring at B41 sites?

I just came back from a business trip to the Bay Area and I was amazed at how well Sprint actually performs up there. I was on LTE (B41 most of the time, even) the vast majority of the time. The only issue I has was inside one particular conference room at the office I was visiting, where my iPhone dropped to 1x on SMR; the phone seemed to be on B26 the rest of the time in that building.

Too bad there's still hoops to jump through before San Diego County gets B26.  :( Even though I get B41 at work if I'm near the outer walls, I still drop back to 3G if I go deep inside the building.

Any of you experiencing a lot of 3G service at LTE sites? I've been noticing a lot of this all throughout North County all week.

Nope. If anything, I think I was getting LTE more often than I remember getting.

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline June 1 for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio covering 27500-28350Mhz expiring 6/8/2028. No reported sightings.  Buildout notice issue sent by FCC in March 5, 2024 https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/letterPdf/LetterPdfController?licId=4019733&letterVersionId=178&autoLetterId=13060705&letterCode=CR&radioServiceCode=UU&op=LetterPdf&licSide=Y&archive=null&letterTo=L  No soecific permits seen in a quick check of Columbus. They also have an additional 200Mhz covering at 24350-25450 Mhz and 24950-25050Mhz with no buildout date expiring 12/11/2029.

They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
    • Was true in my market. Likely means a higher percentage of 5g phones in your market.
