  1. So there was something fishy going on with my signal for the past five days. I've been roaming, dropping calls and signal check has been showing "ev-do: -?#!". This was at a site that I saw crew working on and the sponsor map shows as "in progress". Since the odd reading and the mostly metropcs and Verizon roaming that signal check showed, I went to the Sprint store to ask. Apparently the tower "went dark" and suddenly stopped broadcasting a signal since Tuesday and they are trying to figure out why. Sounds like someone connected the wrong wires or installed something wrong during the NV upgrade, although I can't imagine tech support guys from sprint not concluding something similar.
  2. It sucks, but I understand. My wife has been asking about switching to Verizon because suddenly for the past month we keep roaming everywhere and the school she used to have good service in won't connect calls or stream any data. I've had a few dropped calls this month and in the 4 years I have had sprint, had never happened prior to now. I am just a private customer, so I can more easily blow off these hiccups as growing pains for NV, but for a company that large that depends on the service, the bottom line is Sprint=dropped calls and 0.1 mbps and Verizon is seen as solid and more capable in every way. Business is all about the bottom line right now and not hopes and dreams of two years from now.
  3. At least they know how to throw a wicked karaoke party..
  4. According to the person at the AT&T store across the street from my house, Comcast owns all the fiber in this area and has an aggressive ad campaign that has buried any reason for AT&T to invest in putting fiber down to support u-verse and their high speed Internet. As far as Verizon, they made a deal to offer Verizon wireless as a part of comcast's bundled services for a quadruple play home phone, cable, Internet and wireless deal to increase market dominance for Verizon wireless and Comcast both but as part of that, they can't compete with their own FiOS services. It seems besides cell service, there is little competition in the telco business overall.
  5. My phone has been roaming on Verizon a lot the past couple of days in places I always have decent signal. Maybe it's a network upgrade issue they are sorting out.
  6. Comcast is the devil. They have a monopoly here in northeastern Florida. They blocked Verizon FiOS and AT&T so besides Comcast Internet, I have no DSL option and Clear never got a signal in my home unless I had it outside on top of the fence.
  7. If I were you I'd respond by asking why they haven't turn down the gain on that tower. If it is broadcasting a signal from 26 miles away, I imagine there are some three eyed fish and two headed squirrels in the area..
  8. That makes me worried for those of us in the southern states. We aren't known for having highly educated city folk who can figure out color matching :-/
  9. Didn't you hear? That Verizon logo tramp stamp they make new customers get is the price you pay for native service in the middle of Lost springs, Wyoming. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Springs,_Wyoming
  10. I had a friend in high school who used to literally say "lol". He didn't quite grasp the concept that it is Internet shorthand and not an actual word. He was considered "gifted" by the state of Florida, which shows you the sad state of our education system. But, regardless, LOL.
  11. It seems HTC devices have weak performance. My Evo 3d is the first HTC I have owned, but I always felt I had worse signal on it than my old Samsung Moment had. But either way, once the network is fully up with tri band LTE, I am sure a lot of devices will have better performance since we will have a lower band for penetration and range and multiple bands to keep the network less congested.
  12. My Hp laptop has a fingerprint scanner but it doesn't work very well. After trying 15 times to swipe your finger with it constantly throwing a pop-up that it couldn't read your finger and having to twist your finger and wrist in an unnatural position to try to get your finger just right, I found it was easier to turn it off. Plus sometimes you have to restart your computer to have it turn on properly after a sleep cycle.
  13. I wasn't trying to be political, just a harmless comment. Sorry if i have offended anyone. Can't we all just smoke some salmon and get along?
  14. This is all off topic but since it is important, I will chime in. I do feel, regardless of the extra privileges you receive, if you use this site and like the content, it is the right thing to do to donate what you can. I feel that Robert and all the moderators and contributors take a lot of time, effort and stress to keep this place going. It isn't a matter of if the premium sponsorship is worth it, but if you feel the work they put into this community is worth it. I cannot afford the premium tier, but I have donated a little bit twice so far this month just because I feel I should acknowledge their effort and at least pay for some of the bandwidth I use up to learn everything I can.
  15. I agree about tower spacing or using small cells to help out. Where I live, 3G just barely reaches between towers. I will drive along sr16 and go from 6 bars to zero bars and 1x to a small blip of Primeco roaming for maybe a couple hundred feet to another 3G signal with 2 bars and back to full shortly after. It happens in quite a few sections of the city.
  16. Besides the 800 mhz rollout, would network vision upgrades increase the signal strength dramatically? I know my area isn't broadcasting 800 mhz, but in my in house I normally got about 3 bars of service, but all this weekend my phone has been a solid 6 bars. It seems my wimax reception has been steadily declining, though.
  17. I am pretty sure Edge is the name Verizon is using for their version of Jump where you can receive early handset upgrades like T-Mobile is doing
  18. Careful where you stick your e-penis, you may get e-HRPDes
  19. St Augustine is still hit or miss. Sometimes I get around 0.3 mbps-0.6 mbps and sometimes I get 1.0 mbps-2.5 mbps at the same sites, but at least it isn't 0.01-0.03 mbps anymore..
  20. You could always be the prototype for a new form of GMO solution and have the panels and RRUs strapped to your back.
  21. It would be nice. My parents live in western Iowa and US Cellular and Verizon are the only options. They live in a huge coverage hole that used to be blanketed by Nextel.
  22. Maybe it should say something like "Super Ultra 4G Xtreme Max" just to distance Sprint from the lesser LTE carriers
  23. They need to do something for the town center area. It is a really high end area with a lot of popular shops and restaurants, plus a lot of corporate offices in the nearby area. There are also stores for all the major carriers at the town center. It doesn't look good for Sprint trying to sell customers at the sprint store there when they have some of the worst coverage in Jacksonville right in that area.
