  1. Whenever I go to Jacksonville, I stay within the southside/town center area since I'm from St Augustine. Hopefully that section will get upgraded soon. The town center area has horrible 3g reception. From what I can tell from sensorly, St Augustine is still really spotty, too. But it could be a lack of users here using it. Wimax has always been really spotty from the beginning here so I have high hopes for a night and day difference in LTE coverage once I get a new phone.
  2. I remember my first Android phone, the Samsung Moment, had a single core 800 mhz processor, 500 megs ram, and a 3.2 inch screen and lasted a day. The fact that now the standard is quad core, quadruple the ram, more radios, 5+" full hd screen and still last a day is pretty awesome. These phones pack more power than supercomputers did back when I was a school boy. Can you imagine running a supercomputer cluster a decade ago off a battery the size of a playing card? I understand that our battery technology needs to advance, but I rather have only a day of power and a greatly capable device than a week of power on a 1.5" flip phone. Besides, I sleep almost every night, I have down times at work that I can plug in and I am in my car more than a few times a day so if i need power, it's pretty likely I can get some. I am sure that is true of most people. My Evo 3d is barely able to keep a charge for more than 4-5 hours of standby and maybe 2 hours of light use after 2 years, but I am still able to make that work for now until I get a new phone later with tri band support. You just have to know how to balance playtime/work time on your phone with reasonable understanding of your battery life.
  3. Maybe it houses the secret government equipment they use to spy on you while you surf the net in the bathroom. That is why I have a tin foil phone case to go with my hat.
  4. My pings used to be bad but the last month I have noticed a huge improvement. I am getting a lot of sub 100 ms pings on 3g now. I think there is a tower just across the street from my house that is now upgraded. I had my phone out last night while walking my dog and had full bars. I did a speed test and got 79ms ping, 2.56 mbps down and 0.88 mbps up on 3g. My wimax is another story, though. 109 ms ping, 1.00 mbps down and 0.51 up. Go figure.
  5. I have a Pebble smart watch that I helped fund through kickstarter. I really like it. The thing is water proof, the battery lasts a week on a charge, there are lots of apps and custom watch faces for it and the e-ink display is sharp and easy to see in daylight. I also have a nice Suunto Core military spec watch and an ipod mini with watch band adapter as well. Watches are a great way to show off technology and for someone to show off their geek cred. I personally welcome the new smart watches coming out and I would definitely consider an iWatch or whatever else that comes out if it is as good and fun to customize as my Pebble.
  6. I was going to get a S4 until I learned from this site about tri band lte. Now I am waiting for most likely the LG G2 or Galaxy variant with tri band, but it's not easy waiting to try out lte now. I see lots of people here from Jax. Go Jags, I can't wait to see how we do this season.
  7. Hello everyone here at s4gru! I just joined yesterday after lurking for around a month. I've been with Sprint for nearly 5 currently and my first cell service was with Sprint back when they were SprintPCS with their older logo when they first started "Sprint vision" with the very first color screen flip phones. Back then if you wanted a camera, it was a separate attachment. I also had t-mobile for about 4 years in between there. I currently have an HTC Evo 3d and previously had a Samsung Moment. Honestly, I was going to dump Sprint due to wimax never working out and 3g being terrible. I also roam on vzw at my dad's house in IA and at Vero Beach when I visit my mom. It was because of this site that I began learning just how close and how vast Sprint's plan is to improve their network. In the past month, I have noticed my 3g has been more reliable and faster and it gives me hope for better coverage and speed in the future. I wish Sprint was more open with their customers because without this great resource, my wife and I would have been lost to them. There are some really passionate and intelligent people here and I just wanted to say I appreciate y'all and I am happy to join in. The Dave
  8. I have noticed my 3g speeds are slowly getting better. At my house I pulled 2.12 mbps down and 0.79 mbps up last night. My wimax seems to have gone down dramatically though so I just don't get service where I used to or it is slower than my 3g. I am excited for these tri band phones to come out, I am interested in the new G2 or if a newer S4 comes out soon. I will try to donate some in the next week. Bills are a kick in the teeth, but I have been reading these forums for a week and there are some really great people here with lots of knowledge and dedication.
  9. I have been lurking for a while and reading about Sprint upgrading to LTE since my contract is up in a month and my EVO 3D is on its death spiral. I haven't experienced Sprint LTE first hand so I went to my local store in St Augustine off of 312 and 207. I told the rep that I played with a DROID at the Verizon store across the street and got 35.6 mbps down and 12.4 mbps up and wanted to know how Sprint compared. He ran speed test on an HTC One and got 6.6 mbps down and 6.9 mbps up. I asked about tri band lte but he didn't know what that was and asked why the HTC was comparatively slow. He said that right now Sprint is only running LTE at partial power until they finish the city up in a couple of weeks and it will be faster. Does that sound possible? I didn't think they could turn the power up or down at will? I am just tired of having 4G for two years that I have never been able to utilize.
