Just sent diags in by mistake. Sorry.

I get dozens of random reports daily with no name or issue listed.. not a problem at all! I review most of them anyway, to see how the app performs on various devices and networks.

Sent in several from my 1+ nord n200 5g #1 clear rooted for NSA n41 and NSA n71. They were bracket by nsg showing the same. I realize they may still not have data you can work with. Have nsg screenshots if you need them from same device (DE2117).

It looks like the phantom NR connection when my second SIM has gone to no service is still an issue :(.

How are we looking with the latest update.. any improvement? 🤞

Anyone else seeing stale NR after connection is lost? This is the primary hurdle remaining that is keeping fron rolling this version out to a wider audience.

Today I noticed my Dish phone only showing one connection. I opened up service mode, and the secondary connection had no service.

So the issue might be fixed!!! I’ll keep watching the next few days and let you know what I see.

A while back in this beta test cycle I noticed issues with SCP when getting a call on the secondary line on my S21 ultras.  I turned off "Allow secondary SIM to use data during calls" which seemed to fix the issue.  Fast forward to today and I re-enabled that setting and those issues now appear to be fixed.  Now if I do a speed test which works when the setting is this way (other way the speed test is suspended), SCP will say mobile data inactive while I am pulling data.  I would document this issue away for now.  May behave differently on s22 and s23s.

Everything has been working good for me on the latest update. I finally hit a MMwave site to see what that looked like.

Awesome, glad to hear that -- thank you for sharing, that's the first shot I've seen mmWave in the wild! What does the SCP status bar icon show? Can't make it out clearly in that screenshot.

I didn't catch it apparently. The n77 in the screenshot is for my band alert. Looks like I had too many notifications 😆.

While I've been loath to update my Samsung devices past the May 2022 update to keep the Band Selection tool, I note that it looks like Android 14 is going to add Timing Advance for NR to the API.  (Was looking today as I have another Verizon A42 5G now that I'm going to unlock for T-Mobile, and wanted to figure out if I should let it update or not.)  Since I can technically make band changes from *#73#, on the A42 5Gs, I can probably live without the Band Selection tool if a later Android version adds something useful like TA values.

I assume SCP will be updated to support that once it becomes publicly available.  The real question is whether or not the phones will support it.  My S21FE and A42 5G devices do on LTE, but I know the S22 and the A32 5G do not support it even on LTE, providing just zero in that field.

That's good news, I just checked the API reference and see the added method. I will certainly add support to SCP, but as you mentioned it all depends on if the phones will support it. My Pixel 7 does not report LTE TA on my T-Mobile eSIM, and only reports inconsistently on my AT&T physical SIM.

Another SignalCheck beta update is rolling out now.. NSA 5G-NR band is now displayed on the main screen, network connection type in dual-SIM configurations will be more reliable (on some devices, the secondary SIM would overwrite the "Connected to" display on the main screen), and other minor bugfixes are included.

Pending any new bugs that pop up over the next few days, this version will roll out as a public release at the end of the week..

Still good news on this front?? 🤞

Mike, I updated this morning but I'm not seeing anything new in the NSA data. Sent a diagnostics report earlier.

Hmmm interesting.. it's working on my Pixel 7 and A32, you should see something similar to below. I will add some extra logging and get another update out tonight.

Another SCP beta is rolling out now -- should hopefully resolve the issue with the new NR NSA band display missing on some devices. To clarify, this new field will only appear if the NR frequency is identified (i.e. the app is showing "5G-NR 2500"). If the frequency is not displayed, that means it is not available.. this information is not widely reported on NSA connections yet, although it is becoming more common.

@chamb your S22 was not reporting the information at the time of your report, that is why you are not seeing it.

Sent diag for esim echo when psim turned off. *#0011# shows psim as not ready. Of course just removing Sim fixes it (hassle), but leave decision to you. Cellmapper shows both then removes second after a few seconds..

Sent diag for AT&T n77 on esim on s21 ultra. https://imgur.com/a/ItA2r8Y

Can easily replicate in early morning hours if needed.

Verizon n77 works fine on s21 ultra.

  • 2 weeks later...

Back at it with another fresh beta release, containing several bugfixes.. most notably, Wi-Fi information was only updating upon connection and disconnection. Still working on ironing out the last few hiccups on Dual-SIM devices..

Not sure if its update related or not but I'm unable to login and upload web data on either of my phones (I've never had it log me out since i logged in initially). I've already updated both phones so I can't test if that is the issue or not. Getting this error, diagnostics report sent as well.

Error validated. Just sent data in on prior version of SCP. Updated. Now can not log in.

Hmmm can't replicate it myself, but I know that means it's a compiler issue.. will dig into it shortly. I received your diagnostic @mdob07 but @dkyeager and anyone else if you have a chance this morning please send one after trying to upload also, can't hurt. Thanks!

    • I've now seen how things work in Kobe, Hiroshima, and Osaka, as well as some areas south of Osaka (e.g. Wakayama, Kinokawa), and tried three more SIMs. The two physical SIMs (different branding for each) both use IIJ, which provides a Japanese IP address/routing on NTT, aleit LTE-only, so latency is ~45ms to Tokyo. The catch with NTT is that it uses two frequency bands (B42/3500 MHz LTE, n79/4900 MHz NR) that you're not going to get on an Android sold in the US, and I'm guessing that B42 would be helpful speed-wise on that network, as it doesn't have B41. I also found one place that doesn't have cell service: a vending machine in the back of the Osaka Castle tower. Or, rather, the B8/18/19 signal is weak enough there to be unusable. Going back to 5G for a moment, I saw a fair amount of Softbank n257 in Hiroshima, as well as in some train stations between Osaka and Kobe. 4x100 MHz bandwidth, anchored by B1/3/8, with speeds sometimes exceeding 400 Mbps on the US Mobile roaming eSIM. Not quite the speeds I've seen on mmW in the States, but I've probably been on mmW for more time over the past few days than I have in the US over the past year, so I'll take it. My fastest speed test was actually on SoftBank n77 though, with 100 MHz of that plus 10x10 B8 hitting ~700 Mbps down and ~80 Mbps up with ~100ms latency...on the roaming eSIM...on the 4th floor of the hotel near Shin-Kobe station. Guessing B8 was a DAS or small cell based on signal levels, and the n77 might have been (or was just a less-used sector of the site serving the train station). I'm now 99% sure that all three providers are running DSS on band 28, and I've seen 10x10 on similar frequencies from both NTT and SoftBank IIRC, on both LTE and 5G. I also picked up one more eSIM: my1010, which is different from 1010/csl used by US Mobile's eSIM unfortunately, as it's LTE-only. On the bright side, it's cheap (10GB/7 days is like $11, and 20GB for the same period would be around $15), and can use both KDDI and SoftBank LTE. It also egresses from Taiwan (Chunghwa Telecom), though latency isn't really any better than the Singapore based eSIMs. Tomorrow will include the most rural part of our journey, so we'll see how networks hold up there, and from tomorrow night on we'll be in Tokyo, so any further reports after that will be Tokyo-centric.
    • I think the push for them is adding US Mobile as a MVNO with a priority data plan.  Ultimately, making people more aware of priority would allow them (and other carriers) to differentiate themselves from MVNOs like Consumer Cellular that advertise the same coverage. n77 has dramatically reduced the need for priority service at Verizon where the mere functioning of your phone was in jeopardy a couple of years ago if you had a low priority plan like Red Pocket. Only have heard of problems with T-Mobile in parts of Los Angeles. AT&T fell in between. All had issues at large concerts and festivals, or sporting events if your carrier has no on-site rights. Edit: Dishes native 5g network has different issues: not enough sites, limited bandwidth. Higher priority would help a few. Truth is they can push phones to AT&T or T-Mobile.
    • Tracfone AT&T sims went from QCI 8 to 9 as well a couple years ago. I'm pretty neutral towards AT&T's turbo feature here, the only bad taste left was for those who had unadvertised QCI 7 a couple months ago moved down to 8. In my eyes it would have been a lot better for AT&T to include turbo in those Premium/Elite plans for free to keep them at QCI 7, while also introducing this turbo add on option for any other plans or devices. As it stands now only a handful of plans can add it, and only if you're using a device on a random list of devices AT&T considers to be 5G smartphones.
    • My Red Pocket AT&T GSMA account was dropped to QCI 9 about a year ago.  Most recently 8 for the last few years prior.  Voice remains at 5.
