So then by all means be a douche about it....instead of nicely telling him we already got it, but thanks for the fact you found it...

To be honest, with as long as it has been since this news came out, and how big of news this is, it definitely would have been a good idea to at least search the site a little to see if there was already a thread about it. A quick 30 second search would have shown there was already a thread talking about this, and probably would have taken less time than it took to make the new thread.

The OP has posted in the longstanding WiMAX shutdown thread recently.  He knows that it exists.

People need to do better.  When they fail to do better, when they cause a mess that staff must "douche" to clean up, then they deserve to hear about it.

You seem to confuse jerkiness with sarcasm. AJ was making a sarcastic remark. Jerkiness implies ill intent, which is something AJ was not in possession of.

People may not be interested in looking al over the place to find a post. Why even bother to maintain the WiMAX section if you can post about issues related to the shutdown are not fund here?

Exactly. I don't understand why posts buried in 20-page long threads are considered news, and information worthy of a new thread is shunned around here.

This is the second time I've seen this happen and I wouldn't have seen this news without this new thread. Linking to a 22-page thread isn't helpful.

Because people have been commenting on the existing thread about the new news for several days before he posted it. If he posted it as breaking news in a new thread before anyone really was commenting about it in existing threads of the same topic, that would be more acceptable.

But to willfully skip existing dialog on a subject to start your own is annoying to most of our members. During a period early at S4GRU when we did not moderate that, it was a constant source of complaint. And if we allowed multiple threads discussing the same thing, it would be chaos. There would already be four threads on this very subject. Which would be out of hand.

Not confused at all.... and its not the 1st time i have gotten into it with AJ... He's a jerk and a bully, and I have had conversations about it with other people as well, about his "holier then thou" attitude..

But hey he's an admin so lets bow down  :td:  :td:  :td:  :td:

Maybe Robert, but I wouldnt have known, not that I care much about wimax anymore now that i have my mom switched.  But if hadnt posted it, it wouldnt have popped up on the side bar and sparked my interest.. like I said, doesnt float my boat anymore, but doesnt mean others may not be interested, with out the digging through 20 pages....

And I get the "cleaning up" of repeat posts can be a pain... BUT it doesn not excuse his attitude towards the OP.... And i have seen it happen more then once....  I am pretty sure you are aware the slow decline here since "most" the network is done... What you CAN NOT have is MODS who treat new or inexperienced posters as stupid.  I have been on other boards in my industry and caught myself going after the "newbs" who post what most seem to view as "basic"   And then shortly there after I catch myself and apologize...

AS I said above.....its not the 1st time or 5th for that matter I think AJ has gone over board.....and I think you should address THAT, more so then someone bringing up a repeat post

Staff looks at the different circumstances for each situation.  In orangeblue's case, he posted in the WiMAX countdown thread quite recently.  He knows it exists, and it is not difficult to find.  There is a View New Content button at the top of The Forums -- that is how you properly browse S4GRU for news.  The WiMAX countdown thread constantly has been right there on the first page of threads the past several days.  Moreover, the most recent posts have been discussing the court ordered extensions.  The news hardly was buried in a long thread.  Thus, there is little excuse for starting a new thread.

Now, as for why the WiMAX countdown thread was not in the WiMAX sub forum, take that up with Robert.  He created the thread.  But I did move it last night into the WiMAX sub forum.

AJ, seriously? Is this an excuse to justify that the WiMax countdown was in the wrong section? I have not seen the post before where a nice map was available to see which parts of the country go dark. Your job is to keep the board moderated, so what took so long to move the thread into the right section? You don't have to be a jerk to make a point, unless this is the only way you like to handle issues?

It wasn't in the WiMAX sub forum? Well that was clearly an error on my part.

Robert, this is something you should teach AJ, because we all make mistakes.

The article with the map had been posted in the other thread. Most of us browse using the "View New Content" tab that is at the top of every page, and never notice which section a post is in. That is partially why the other thread existed for as long as it did, where it did. Now, calm down, stop calling names, or there will be warnings/suspensions/bans awarded.

Huh.  I never noticed that before.

There is still a lot of WiMax love in the Bay Area and I hope it stays that way for a little longer. I have seen crews working on some WiMax towers today, and it look as if Sprint is starting to add new RUU's in the area

I will try but the tower is located on I-880 and hard to take a good picture. I found another very interesting tower and I'm planning to take pictures on Saturday.

I had not either. As I am an infrequent visitor, I doubt that it would have helped me all that much. FWIW, I am thankful for this thread, as it enabled me to quickly find the schedule for Miami.

    • Uploaded data without issues on Friday. Now with the latest update I am getting "Cluster #1 skipped: invalid file format detected. File exported for inspection." Doing same with all other clusters. Did this on 4 phones in a row.  Seems to work on s24 ultra just fine. On s21 ultra it says "web data upload failed. No data to send" although 8800 records were displayed. Now gives same error as above. I have not sent the data from 3 other phones.  All should have latest update.
    • After several months of testing, an update to SignalCheck Pro is rolling out on Google Play. It may take up to 48 hours to become available for download. Notable changes include: Added option to display site notes for NSA 5G-NR cells. Enabling this new option (Preferences > Display Settings > Show NSA 5G-NR Site Notes) will cause the app to make an "educated guess" as to what the most appropriate site note is linked to the connected NSA 5G cell, using the PCI and the device location. If it finds an existing entry that is likely to be relevant, it will display the note along with the distance from where the strongest signal from that cell was logged. While connected to NSA 5G, these notes cannot be edited; a valid NCI is required to add/edit notes and that information is not available on NSA connections.   Added option to log cells with missing/invalid PLMN (such as NSA 5G-NR cells). Users asked for the ability to log data for NSA 5G, so a new option (Preferences > Logger Settings > Log Cells with Missing PLMN) will permit this.   Added option to display LTE info above 5G-NR info. Enabling this new option (Preferences > Display Settings > Show LTE Cells Above 5G-NR Cells) shows the same information that is currently displayed, but moves the LTE information above the 5G-NR information. Other changes: Code optimizations and enhancements. Improved Android 15 compatibility. Overhauled Purchases module. Resolved force closes impacting some GSM/LTE connections. Resolved issue with improper 5G-NR PLMN display when NR/LTE PLMNs did not match. Resolved issue with improper PLMN display with single-digit MNCs. Resolved issue with incorrect 5G-NR bands displayed on some devices due to Android bug. Resolved issue with incorrect number of neighbor cells displayed when some cells were unknown. Resolved issue with missing 5G-NR data when sector display is enabled. Resolved issue with saving 5G-NR site notes when NR/LTE PLMNs did not match. Resolved issue with settings to log missing GCI/NCI/TAC/PLMN being ignored. Resolved issues with web data export function. Updated internal libraries. Updated provider database. Updated target API to Android 15. I appreciate all of your support, and a big thank you to the members of the Beta Crew that help with testing and feedback!
    • Oct security update is out.
    • Stopped by again today and the antennas are up but it isn't live just yet. If other Sprint conversions are anything to go by it'll likely take about a month for the site to go live.
    • It is an Android bug that was reportedly fixed in August 2023 but definitely has not been. I have implemented numerous workarounds in SCP to correct the NR bands the app displays. The OS ignores the possibility that many NR-ARFCNs are valid across multiple bands.. it reports the lowest NR band that is valid for the current ARFCN. In your example, channel 432530 can be n1, n65, or n66.. so the OS just (lazily) reports n1.   Awesome, thanks! I will add an n65 override also.
