WiFi Calling Experiences?

I don't know why they wouldn't support it. iOS 8 is still in beta, so there's no need to announce it now. Probably around the time we get a firm date of the OS release.

I wanted to edit my post after I realized exactly what you pointed out, but it was too late. T-Mobile making the announcement is just part of their PR game.  I also don't see any reason why they wouldn't support it.

SMS works on my M8 with Wi-Fi Calling, but I can't send or receive MMS on it when connected to Wi-Fi Calling.  A lot of other folks seem to have the same issue, so it seems to be systemic rather than device-dependent.

Has anybody discussed the issue with Sprint technical support?  I intend to do so but haven't gotten around to it, and I won't bother if somebody else has.

I was only connected to Wi-Fi Calling for a few days before I turned it off, but it seemed like my M8 used less battery when it was connected to Wi-Fi Calling.  I'm surprised others have experienced the opposite, but admittedly I have a small sample size.

SMS and MMS works perfectly fine both sending and receiving on WiFi calling with my G3. I just did a test again to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. Both work perfectly fine.

What messaging app are you using? I'm using Textra, and MMS fails everytime. But SMS go through just fine. G3 as well.

The stock LG texting app. I don't use texts (SMS/MMS) often, so I see no need to use anything else.

I use Hangouts for all of my "texting" because it reminds me if iMessage, which is one of the only things I miss about iOS.

What on the device determines wifi calling ability?  I am just wandering why the number of devices is still so small.  I have a Nexus 5 and would love to have that ability.

As far as I know, the N5 doesn't support Wi-Fi calling, not even on T-Mobile.  I think the OEMs have to bake it into the software and the carrier, of course, has to support the feature.  On T-Mobile, all the Android devices (except for the N5) support Wi-Fi Calling, along with the BlackBerry and Windows phones.

Quick question for those who have mms working, do you use Google voice integration?

Nope. And to answer David's earlier question (even though he didn't ask me personally - Oww! My feelings hurt!), I am on a totally stock GS5 using the stock texting app (lame, but functional). The only thing I have that may be unusual is that I get a ridiculously strong signal from my WiFi router and have very fast internet.

Ok maybe that it then. I have Google voice integration on and no mms. Do the rest of you without mms also have gv integration?

I have GV integration, and I'm pretty sure I've gotten MMS with Wifi calling on.

I say pretty sure because I've not run into txt issues and so honestly don't pay that close attention.

Only issue I've run into is occasionally the other party can't hear me.

  • 2 weeks later...

So are all of you able to turn off your cellular radio and just use Wifi only?

It won;t work for me in Airplane mode, but whenever I activate it, it still turns off all of the other radios anyway. I think it's just something software related though.

So far it seems the pattern is mms only works on wifi calling if don't have Google voice integration. No one has definitively said that gv + wifi calling = mms.

Thanks for the info. [emoji106]

Makes sense too me. I don't have Google voice and have no problems with mms over Wi-Fi.
