Estimated completion of 1900 LTE

Do we have an approximate date on when 1900 LTE will be essentially completed? It seems like they're accepting abt 350-400 LTE sites a week on average. If they currently had around 20,000 LTE sites done that'd put completion at abt next Feb or March +/- a couple months.

 

Very rough guesstimate on that 20,000 number.

The estimated completion of NV 1.0 is mid-year 2014. There is no ETA on the completion of LTE 1900, because it may never be completed. Sure, almost every single site in the country will be broadcasting 1900 LTE, but due to things like stubborn backhaul companies and a few other reasons, not every last site will be able to broadcast 1900 LTE.

 

Of course, you could always pitch in a few bucks to the site and become a sponsor. If you do that you'll gain access to an interactive map of all the NV Sites that have been completed, not completed, and that have yet to receive any upgrades. And that's only the beginning of what you can access. ;) 

 

I'll tell you this (and I'm sure many other members of this site would agree), the money I used for my sponsorship is the best money I've ever spent.  :tu:

Very true about it being the best money ever spent. The worst money ever spent is money spent in the app called Castle Clash. As soon as you go better equipment and characters you do worse because of the way the game is set up.

What Anthony said above is pretty much the story. LTE 1900 will be substantially complete this Summer. There will be stubborn or difficult to get backhaul to sites that will continue beyond that.

 

I hope that Sprint just decides to use microwave as a temporary stop gap on these sites until fiber can be brought to them. But I imagine they will just count on Band 26 (LTE 800) to fill in the gaps that are caused by the few remaining difficult sites.

There are approximately 118 unique sponsor maps that cover every state of the union except Alaska,  Montana, and South Dakota (at least since I compiled the list last month), ranging from upgrades, permits, and even animated maps.

Q2 2014 should be the completion of Network Vision 1.0 but not the completion of 1900 PCS LTE.  I wish there was a approximate date and I'm pretty sure S4GRU community would agree but there is no telling when.  Essentially all NV gear should be installed on all of Sprint's CDMA sites but along with backhaul sites need to be inspected and integrated before LTE goes live which will all take time.  Sprint should start thinking of finding alternate backhaul vendors in markets for the ones that are being stubborn or go with microwave and be done with it.  Only time will tell and we will see where Sprint is by summer... 

 

Not to mention if you donate you can access the Network Vision maps, plus help donate to S4GRU.  Robert has put a lot of his personal time and effort into this site and needs help to keep it running not to mention all the others that help him as well.

I also can say that what I donated was worth EVERY penny! I will be donating more in the future because the maps alone are worth it.

 

They are extremely detailed and give you all the info you need.

Still about 25 sites in my market rocking legacy. Last time we have seen a crew is October. Only one "In Progress" site but it has had the antennas up since February of last year. You would think they would have just used the T1s by now and did the 3g side. I don't see them doing these 25 for at least 6-9 months. According to our market sheet completion estimates based on the current completion rate, RRU installations will be done Jan 2015 and LTE will be on all sites by June 2015.

Depends on the area. For instance in my city, no permits are required for network vision work at all. It's just replacing equipment. I have only seen permits when an entirely new site goes up.

backhaul for my tower was ran 2 months ago and still is coiled up bottom of the street. Doesnt matter this tower has been a gmo for almost a year now

What's coiled is just conduit. Sometimes conduit gets run months in advance of the fiber being ready to be pulled through. If fiber crews showed up and the conduit wasn't ready in advance, you'd probably be asking why they just didn't do the conduit in advance. ;)

For LTE the challenge is backhaul, but the bigger challenge is getting the equipment and cabinets retrofitted, etc. That would be the bulk of the NV project, and once that is complete, the focus can be moved towards other things.

 

Also, going microwave for backhaul isn't as easy as people think. There is a whole mess of permitting, installation, distance to nearest agg pop, provisioning and routing of link, and so on, so forth.

My best guess is they will be substantially complete with 1900 LTE by the end of 2014.

But in truth, we have no idea. Since every site is built on differing variables from all other sites, averages are more for historical interest than they are for accurate forecasting the future.

 

The last sites in Network Vision often suffer from the most extreme deployment problems that it makes it even harder to assign any reasonable amount of time to completion. I bet the remaining sites are the bain to each of the NV Market Managers.

Believe me, I get it. But if a site can't get AAV backhaul in 2 years, hiring a microwave specialist who can get a stubborn site done in 2-3 months makes sense. And depending what kind of MW equipment/spectrum you use, you may be able to bypass permitting from the feds and from local jurisdictions. Some MW antennas are so small, local cities won't even notice them and require permits. These would only be temporary until permanent backhaul can finally be obtained.

Just a question what kind of backhaul requirements does a site need for 1900lte and 800lte? Was just wondering if they are putting in backhaul to a site but at first only had enough for the b25 lte carrier and then when they are finishing adding more lines would have enough for both carriers?

If Band 25 LTE was able to be fired up, then the most likely type of backhaul the site has is either fiber or microwave. And if the site has fiber or MW for backhaul, then it should be able to handle a second Band 25 LTE carrier and also Band 26 LTE.

Something I compiled. It took me a while by going through each and every thread in the forums.

I've been debating on whether to put it in an existing thread much like the new devices spreadsheet I compiled and put it in the thread MacInJosh started or in its' own thread. I've just been lazy on making a decision. If I put it in a stand alone thread, the decision then becomes whether to put it in the general population areas where all can see what maps they get access to if they become a sponsor or just put it in the sponsor section.

 

Anyway, the list is pretty cool since you can filter by state There have been times where a discussion is talking about a certain area and it saves me time in hunting down the area map.

The only bad thing is trying to keep it up to date. If a new member or area map is done and I don't catch it, I won't be able to put it on the list.

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.    
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
