I think most of Sprint's money for network upgrades disappeared after the Nextel fiasco, iPhone commitment deal, and staying too long with plans with only $10/month for unlimited data.

Can't start charging luxury pricing until you have the nice car built and ready for the showroom floor. But then you need the money which you don't have to make that nice car. Like the fried chicken and the egg thing. (oops.. Put an extra word on there)

A Catch-22. At least, Sprint is slightly cheaper than Verizon and AT&T. So it's a tolerable "2nd class"/low-rent wireless carrier FOR NOW.

I'm lucky, that I'm on a family plan. Only $45/month for my share. If I had to get my own line, I would've taken over (Assumption/Transfer of Liability) an unlimited data Verizon plan.

There has been a site on the roof of the building next to my work that had NV equipment installed over a year ago and it still doesn't have LTE broadcasting.  I mean, the building has fiber access (obviously), as it is in the middle of downtown.  It must be a major pain getting it to the roof.

Brooklyn is actually mostly middle class. Sure there are neighborhoods that are ghetto, but most of it just doesn't have a lot of restrictions. For instance my neighborhood in Brooklyn is landmarked and as a result, doing any work is a hassle. I was surprised when Sprint lit up LTE here but after looking through permits I saw that they had applied for it nearly a year ago.

At this point, it's better to have a name with no history in the USA than the stigma and negative history of the "Sprint" brand.

NV won't be done for another year and even then, they're gonna start converting the GMOs. No point in a name change till then. Let "Sprint" soak up all the anger and "" reaps the benefit late 2014.

Like the person said above we didn't know what was going to happen with sprint. We didn't know if Dish was going to buy them and have the network be Dish's problem or if Sprint will remain the same but with Clearwire and Softbank. I'm sure sprint corporate decided to pause network vision in major markets until the bidding war was completed. I honestly don't blame them, why continue building out the network if dish was going to take over and redo everything

 

Now that chapter is done, and we are under Softbank's control I'm sure sprint is really trying their best to hurry things up. Some things will take time but I know some things will be forced to speed up. None of us expected to have clearwire TD LTE turned on last week so that's a sign they are trying.

 

I just hope we can get some sort of timeline to know what's going on but I'm sure we won't get one so I'm hoping softbank/sprint does a big press event that announces The New Sprint with their exact vision and goals.

I completely agree with this. Currently, NV is causing problems. Yes, they're problems that Sprint expected, but they're not what the public expected. For one, the rollout being slow is often attributed to "Slow Sprint", often compared to the WiMAX rollout. Additionally, 3G NV cells will often drop when handing off back to legacy. This was seen in Chicago, and is currently being seen in West Michigan. So, no point in a name change when people are having dropped call issues and service going in and out as things are getting situated. Perhaps later.

 

And really, would it make a difference in the end? Those who are upset will still know it's the same company...

Okay, based on the many negative comments in the CNET article, Sprint has put together a focus group to consider a new name.  Instead of Sprint, what do you think of the following potential names?  Hobble?  Crawl?  Or Usain Bolt?

I totally disagree. When you have a capital improvement plan you go forward with it no matter what. Why? Because the money is already spent. What we are seeing now is a glut of sights that were completed but waiting for approval. The timing is just coincidental. Clear may have been a different situation. I suspect the towers were approved and ready to go and they waited until after the merger to flip the switch. In either case work did not stop.

my assumption is New Sprint wants July 30th to happen like yesterday - so they can announce a typical poor quarter.  Then Mr. Son can start to get New Sprint into the press with announcements.  This is also why I bet they are waiting to go live with the 2 boroughs in  NYC on the 30th to help show the future rather than the past.  

 

I don't know SoftBank nor Mr. Son - BUT from what i have seen in video and and written word he is not a person that likes to come in last nor enjoys his company taking it by TMO or any other carrier.

Idk we'll wait and see. I can start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel but we still have miles away lol.
