Network Vision/LTE - Upper Central Valley Market (Sacramento, Stockton, Redding, Eureka & Reno/Lake Tahoe)

Huge update for Reno and Carson City:

Some kind soul has Sensorly running on their device, so I check the maps for updates fairly often. I've seen LTE in Carson City since May, but sometime between July 31 and August 2nd, some LTE towers have been turned on in Reno. It looks like we will have 4G before the end of the summer *fingers crossed*

Is reno and Carson part of the UCV? =/ don't mean to be a nit pick here.

Photos of the work being done on the water tower at Peter McCuen in Rancho. NV panels? They aren't on the tower yet, but they were on the lifts. Hope the quality is good.

Simply see the title of this topic, " Network Vision/LTE - Upper Central Valley Market (Sacramento, Stockton, Redding, Eureka & Reno/Lake Tahoe)"

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me either, BUT Reno is in the UCV.

For the last 2 days my 3G is obsolete. Pandora internet radio stops playing more often than it actually plays at my gym (24 Hour Fitness - 8785 Center Pkwy Sacramento). They don't have Wi-Fi at the gym so I have to use 3G. The last 2 days I've just been playing the music I've got saved on my Galaxy Note 2.  I ran a speed test this morning and got .02mbps down. Now I can't even run a speed test anymore. Hoping some work is going on around here.

Sprint hasn't been great out here for a long time though I usually speed test at .3 -.4mbps but now I can't even run a speed test standing outside. I've tried several times this afternoon. Hoping this is good news as I live very close to that gym!

I and others have done more mapping on sensorly.com to show the areas where the switch is flipped.  About 80% - 85% of what is currently showing for Reno on sensorly.com is from my drive time and some extra driving for the sake of a little extra mapping over the past 3 days . . . a LOT of purple has been added.

ANOTHER UPDATE FOR RENO !!!

More pockets of 4G LTE in Reno.  Hwy 395 from the I-80 interchange south beyond Damonte Ranch AND west of 395 between Moana Ln and Del Monte/Neil Rd.  Some pretty impressive speeds too.

The low end, even with a weak signal, 1 bar, is about 1M down / 0.5M up.

Over by the airport 1.83M down / 0.41M up using sensorly's speedtest AND in the parking lot of Boston Market on Kietzke Ln ran the sensorly speed test 6.31 down / 5.82 up and then ran speedtest.net 5.52 down / 7.36 up (yes, really, the up was higher than the down on that one). See screenshots below.

Can't wait to see that purple grow in Reno.

Sweet mother of jesus, it's about as bad as Sprint can get in that 24. Youtube will never load, Pandora can take up to 5 minutes to load, speeds around .03-.05 mb every time I go. I live off of Big Horn and I never get over .6 so it takes a special kind of slow to get me agitated.

Sudden slow speeds are always a good sign :) my house always roamed at the night time (usually after 10) but now it roams during the day. It means they're taking down whatever form of signal is there and separate it with new NV ones.

Brace yourselves for good service to come :D

Well I appreciate you mapping out that glorious LTE. The sad part is that some of the results you got are just as fast as other carrier's 3G speeds. I guess Sprint is just always going to be the redheaded step child of the speed games.

Great work! I work right in this area so I will start mapping myself!

Okland and Salina's LTE is pretty good if not a tad bit inconsistent. Was able to stream crunchyroll and youtube pretty well in the good areas, but other times it got a little shitty.

So I'd say the past 3-5 days there has been really bad signal in my area. A lot of roaming which happens not often. I roam all day in my house, at the local grocery store, my gf's house, pretty much the whole community.

Today I took another route to catch highway 99 to go to Modesto and I noticed at the side of the road in a little barn there was something that caught my eye. It looked like LTE towers and there was a boom lift next to the tower. I managed to take a couple of pics.

Can anyone confirm these are Sprint LTE towers? More exact location was on French Camp Rd and S Wolfe Rd.

So far in Stockton this is the only location I'm roaming like this.

Here are some dropbox pics:

There is a Sprint cell site colocated at that location but it's unclear what is going on unless  someone gets some clear photos of the antennas.

I'll try to get some closer ones tomorrow but they look very similar to the Sprint 4G Lte towers I've seen on google images and other websites.

And yeah that's a sprint tower in that. Just saw it on the Sprint map.

Hopefully it is LTE antennas.  I think it is.

The whole Bay Area's LTE is pretty awesome except for downtown San Francisco. Full bars and max out at 3MBPS which is understanble from all the people connected.

So far my top 3 areas in the Bay Area: Livermore/Dublin/Pleaseanton. Get speeds up to 30 MBPS!

2. San Jose/Santa Clara

3. Vallejo/Fairfield

Three LTE sites accepted over the past few days as we've figured out by now.

2 in Reno, NV.

- Rooftop of a building by Double R Blvd & Sandhill Road

- Tower near intersection of Kumle Lane & S Virginia Street

1 way in the west side of Roseville, CA

-  Near intersection of Crowder Lane & Baseline road

Looking at your pictures the Double Stacked Antenna Panels not the round ones... the ones right above or below each each other kind of spread out is an AT&T array. Sprint is either on the very top or right below the double stacked AT&T antennas.

AT&T has been adding a 2nd RRU to their antenna sector's all over Sacramento so it could be AT&T doing work as well.....hopefully it is Sprint though.

I am downtown near the Capitol and I had 4G for about five minutes.  I did a speed test using OpenSignal and had download speeds of 125 and 312 kbps.  My upload speeds were 1294 and 18062(!!!)kbps.  This was at 4:02pm.

I had a similar experience up there last week...my LTE speeds were about 150-300kbps and my 3g speeds were upwards of 3/3

. kinda backwards lol

 but very awesome.

I've noticed that on my way from  downtown (99 North from hwy 4)

I've been getting total signal loss, like there's a .25-.5mi hole in data coverage. I show no signal in signalcheck but I have very slow data speeds in speedtests. In the same spot too.. there's a sprint tower by raleys but its a ways up the road from where I seem to lose signal.

on top of that, data speeds around the same area have been crap(pier than normal :P )

downtown speeds have dropped to about half of what they were in the last month or two, and that started about a week or so ago.

More updates and mapping for 4G LTE in Reno, NV.

Yesterday my travels took me down south by South Meadows Parkway and Double Diamond.

I did some more mapping on sensorly.com if you're interested AND perhaps more important saw the BEST SPEEDS I've SEEN YET, 20+M down / 7+M up, see screenshots below.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
