Network Vision/LTE - Washington DC Market

Will they ever leave on the NV tower on cause it is much faster it is slow on day time?.And do you know if rockville gaithesberg and bethesda ever get LTE soon?

I'm not certain I understand your post. But I will attempt to respond to what I think you've said.

NV improvements are typically left on when completed. Especially 3G improvements. However, you likely are connected to only legacy sites and not NV sites. An overloaded legacy site can bog down at peak times, but can be normal speed at off peak times. They are not turning NV sites on and off. That is not your issue.

As for the Maryland communities you cite, it is an impossible question to answer. They are upgrading throughout the market on a site by site basis. They will likely upgrade one site to LTE in each city, and then every week or two, another one. They will likely start soon, maybe even before the end of the year. However, it will be several months before there is citywide coverage of LTE in any of those cities.

Hopefully this answers your questions.

I'm confused - so the Herndon area around Clock Tower has LTE up, at least to some degree. I mapped a few areas with Sensorly last night. Based on signal strength it appeared the tower is likely around Frying Pan. Crossing over to the Worldgate side of the Toll road I had signal in and out and then gone. Then suddenly back again at Worldgate (that tower is on the Marriott). I live nearby and have had horrible service there lately so this does make some sense. However, the signal doesn't seem to cover a full 360 yet and not much strength there. Am I picking up signal carrying from, perhaps, Frying Pan, or would the have things turned on and testing without all panels up and operational?

Also, I'm using the EVO LTE and having to force LTE only and constantly toggle airplane mode or radio on/ off to find the signals.

I think it is the tower at Frying Pan and 28 that is active, if you look at the Sensorly map you will notice the Signal is stronger along 28 then it is in around Clock Tower. If it was the Marriott panels active then I would receive it at the house in which I am 2 blocks out of range if the current mapping. I am over here off of Parcher by the elementary school.

That is not what I said at all. Please go back and reread.

I don't know that I agree on that. The distance seems pretty large for one tower. I was able to keep signal to the Giant on Elden. Conversely, I work next the Dulles Hyatt and cannot get any LTE signal here. I am closer to Frying Pan & 28 at work than I am at home or for that matter Worldgate or Clocktower.

Just got to school. TESST College in Beltsville and noticed once again that I was on LTE. Did a speed test and pulled down 7.22Mbps and 2.96Mbps up. I believe they blocking signals in this building because I dropped back down to a crappy 3G signal once I got in my classroom.

I'm starting to become a believer in this new 4G rollout.

If they were blocking signals, then you wouldn't get 3G either, you'd have nothing. Most likely the site is to far away to penetrate the building with LTE. Your speed test is indicative of a signal that would probably become too weak to use upon entering a building. As site come online closer to your building, you'll probably see signal inside.

Question- I get a 4G signal in a few parts of DC, yet I don't get any service (I have to wait until my phone switches to 3G service). In other areas, when I have a 4G signal I get weak to fairly strong service (although no speeds like I've seen in other areas of the country). What is the cause of this phenomenon?

It could be some components are set up exactly right yet. As Robert has mentioned in other threads, sometimes there is an issue with the site communicating with the LTE Core, so the network speeds are slowed or stopped. Since you are in an un-announced region, I would expect to continue to see fluctuations in speed, coverage and signal strength until the network is "launched."

I just picked up a 4G signal when I got to work this morning. I'm not sure if this is an expansion of the Baltimore coverage, or if they flipped the switch on the DC area? Can anyone comment?

I posted the signal info in the 4G connection thread here

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
