Heh, it's on the fringe of the Athens-Atlanta market. I was just there this weekend (and the Sensorly traces are mostly mine)... got better and more consistent 4G there than in Athens proper.

I have a question about sensorly. It might be a dumb question but on my Galaxy Nexus I have the radio set to CDMA only to help conserve battery since I don't currently have any LTE. I have sensorly set to map my route automatically when I start driving. Will it be able to detect any LTE or do I have to switch my phone to CDMA/LTE mode?

60% of the time it works every time!

As far as I have seen, and others have confirmed this too... there is no appreciable battery life difference between "CDMA-Only" and "CMDA/LTE". Might as well leave it on LTE.

I have been getting LTE in various locations around west Nashville and the metro center but it doesn't last long and seems to be the wrong time zone. Is this normal before it is turned on for good? I have been making several sensorly readings and speed tests, runs great when on.

I have not seen LTE here but everything I have read about areas starting up that is normal. They are still testing and getting approvals.

Just got my Optimus G a couple nights ago, and am seeing spotty glimpses of LTE around Shrewsbury/Worcester, MA. I notice, however, there is quite a lag when the phone can't get LTE and has to switch back to 3g to its thing. Can't wait for it to finish though.

Sensorly keeps screwing up for me. I turn on 4G (wimax) and load er up.....but whenever I get near a wifi signal I automatically get kicked off 4G and put into wifi, even if its the kind of wifi that requires browser log in. Giant pain.

Thats not the Sensorly App. Thats you having your WIFI on and set to connect to open networks. Turn off the WIFI before leaving the house

You'll find it in your network settings. New Samsungs are settings > (wireless/network) More settings > Mobile Networks.

Click on it and it will let you disable.

In case you aren't familiar with it, all it does and keep switching on your WIFI and trying to connect to save strain on the network and probably give you a better experience. But, for testing signal, etc. it's a must to turn it off.

Interesting that no one figured this out yet with all the Sensorly devotees around, but I'll help you out.

When you open Sensorly, go to the settings, and scroll down to General. Chances are you have both "Scan WiFi networks" and "Force WiFi on" checked. Just uncheck those, and all will be well.

As far as I have seen, and others have confirmed this too... there is no appreciable battery life difference between "CDMA-Only" and "CMDA/LTE". Might as well leave it on LTE.

The reason for this is that both LTE and CDMA are not only one chipset, but also both the same frequency, just different blocks, so Id see no reason this should deplete battery life. If anything, running on the eHRPD via CDMA/LTE rather than EVDO on CDMA-Only would be a better experience since eHRPD runs over LTE backside, thus faster data to look up what you want, even by only a bit, meaning less time the phone is being used by having data running, screen on, etc, meaning a longer battery life in the long run. Aside from this, Sprint Optimization Manger in the phone will periodically turn on for brief periods of time WiFi, 3G, 4G, etc to see if it can connect to a better signal, turn off the other radios, and save battery life that way. It will not keep the radios on searching like previous WiMAX devices (which eventually were set to turn on, scan a few times, then power down but not off totally)...This way is better, however, it does have a bad habit of connecting to "log-into WiFi Network" hotspots quite often. Turning it off however will enable all radios to be on, if they are set to be on. So be sure to turn off radios that are not needed. In this case, CDMA-Only with WiFi OFF would be the battery saver, however, possibly negated by the slower data, requiring the phone screen and radio to be in active mode more, so.....

eHRPD does not mean faster data. In most markets, where there is no new network yet, eHRPD just routs the traffic a different direction, does not mean it is any faster. But this is far off topic.

Was indeed checked, will now disable.

Anyone know why the dominican republic shows sprint 3g coverage reported by users?

In my experience, eHRPD vs EVDO has performed better with not only faster speeds, but 2-3x less latency. Even you said it yourself routing traffic in a different direction - that can mean faster in many areas, I have done speed tests on CDMA-Only as well as CDMA/LTE (which uses eHRPD) and I have been able to determine that it really is faster. Not saying the technology is that much different, but the fact that it will route through a different way using the eHRPD means is definitely a bonus for me, who used to get 50-300kbps regularly, I easily see 600-2500kbps. Also, that is not off topic if I am responding to how and why it works.

After eHRPD went live here, my speeds have dropped, and latency has increased, so you just happened to be lucky. Have you read the thread discussing eHRPD and what it is?

This thread is about sensorly, if you would like to continue the discussion, I would ask we move it to the eHRPD thread. Thank you.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
