Network Vision/LTE - San Diego Market

IBEZ issues should be resolved this year. Only possibly a city here or a county there to hold up some areas in rebanding. Sprint is getting a move on deploying radios for 800 now so all they have to do is fire them up once the spectrum is clear.

:tu: Being able to get LTE inside my house would be great.

Shout out once this site is live with LTE.  The city had approved this site for construction in 2013. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/2144-network-visionlte-san-diego-market/?p=334412

Sprint had to wait on "roof" repairs which was completed a few months ago.  It is the last gap of LTE coverage in South East San Diego.

Oceanside is lagging big time where gaps need to be filled, and a few old untouched sites. A few which are mainly light pole sites.

They finally updated the coverage maps to show that there really are gaps in LTE coverage in Oceanside. Use the sprint zone app to report a coverage problem every time you find one. I hope someone at Sprint actually is working on the problem here.

Site on Balboa and Genesee been in planning stages since 5/2012.  Hopefully something gets done after todays meeting with the permit being approved.  Its been dragging on for nearly 3 years!  San Diego has nothing but red tapes!!!

Note in the plans they are using an unfamiliar antenna for Sprint, not sure if they will be install the ones found in the "How to Spot Sprint Antennas and RRUs (Alcatel-Lucent)" section.

Don't know if anything will get done about that in the meeting. The focus today is voicing opinions, and maybe moving the Chargers to LA lol

Sprint actively adding new sites.  Many sites are quick which took 1 year. Some like my previous post takes nearly 3 years.

Building a new site at this location took 1 year just to get approved.  This site will also get 2.5 antenna per the plan.

Sprint has converted IDEN and added nearly 10 sites in San Diego since NV begun.

I hope more focus will be North County soon. I see parts of Pendleton has been firing up LTE pretty quickly, compared to the sites off base. Pretty much those missed out locations in Oceanside as mentioned earlier.

I wonder if 2.5 is part of the installation.  On one of the recent documents in the approved permit it stated:

Sprint - 12 panel antennas measuring (four at 48" x 7.1" x 18.1 "; eight at 72" x11.8" x 7"), 12 Remote Radio Heads and 6 RFS Combiners,

Anyone have dimension details of ALU 2.5 antennas?

Just got an email from the project manager, this site still needs approval from the city council. Don't expect construction to start until summer which translates to taking 3 years of red tape to get this site done.

Exactly.  John Saw had confirm last year that San Diego is a difficult market and now we know why.  We have maybe up to 100 sites left that needs to be completed.

B41 installs are already underway so thats some other exciting news.

I was on Camp Pendleton earlier this afternoon visting a friend near the front gate of the base. There is a site there you can also see from the 5 freeway heading north and south while passing by that has been LTE live for a while. Before leaving the base, I decided to stop by and take a look. There were 2 towers beside one another. Couldn't really identify which one is Sprint's. Had SignalCheck running standing in between the 2.

That bottom on Tower 2 rack was my for sure guess when I was looking at it thinking it was Sprint, after seeing many pics and discussions here on how to spot, but wasn't 100% sure. I guessed right then lol

The antennas can be different, but most of the time the RRU is always the same in our area for 1900Mhz setup.  Notice in this picture 2 RRU per sector, big one for 1900Mhz and the smaller one for the 800Mhz.  We should start seeing more of the smaller one for 800Mhz.

Gotcha. I was wondering what to look for description wise, with 800 Mhz being in the area. Thanks for that explanation.

Ok, here's my situation. Got home from work Friday evening on 3/6 a little after 6:30 pm. About an hour later, I noticed I couldn't make or receive calls, texts, but had only data. Didn't make a big stink about it at first, and figured I probably needed to update everything. Did that, nothing. Got on Sprint chat that same evening, made my case to rep. Of course, got a run around at first saying call tech help, or go to a Sprint store in morning to go get phone looked at. So I told the chat rep, this isn't a phone issue, and a tower nearby that I usually connect to must be down. Then I gave him some info from SignalCheck Pro what I was seeing on my side, like 1xRTT popping up here and there, etc................ That was over his head, so he finally gave in and looked into they system to see if a tower is down as I requested. 2 minutes later, he says all is good, nothing is wrong, and will give me a $15 credit. Ok.............. I turned on roaming, and couldn't get anything either. So I decided to use Wifi Calling for the first time to resolve my issues, and reported info on Sprint Zone app also.

Yesterday, 3/7. Called in this time still on Wifi Calling. Spoke with another rep, gave same info. Rep looks into the situation. Found that a tower 2 blocks from me is down right off the bat, and told me there has been many other reports coming in. Got 2 open ticket numbers. Then I was told that the tower is scheduled to be fixed by techs on 3/10/15 before 9pm.

So earlier this evening, I decided to walk over to this site to go see if anything new was installed. It's a very old light pole site. There's a LTE live tower about half a mile to a mile away, but I'm on the fringe, and can only get 3G. As for this light pole site, I took some pics. Can anyone please tell me what I'm looking at here antenna wise? If it were to be upgraded to B25, what would be done on a site like this?
