One question for those of you who have lte at your home.

I usually get a -79 1x signal and a -73 evdo signal (RSSI) at my apt. Does that means that I will have a fair LTE signal?

Sometimes it switch to 4G but I usually get -110 - -114 RSRP. I don't think that the closest tower to me is providing LTE.

If you get 4G at your home can you post your level signals?

Thanks

If you get better than a -95 RSSI signal on 1x, then once your closest tower is upgraded, you should get a great LTE signal. If you are getting a -79 RSSI 1x signal, but only a -110 RSRP LTE signal, than I would be fairly certain that your closest tower is not yet upgraded. However, I have had good experience with LTE at a -110 RSRP signal. It's not super fast, but generally faster than 3G.

Both towers near home are already upgraded as per s4gru maps. I got eHRPD from both.

But I don't know from which site I'm getting the LTE signal.

The closest tower is half a mile or less.

I do get 2-5Mbps with -110 RSRP.

Both are upgraded to 4G? Some of the other threads, especially in the Sponsor New Orleans and Dallas/Austin thread discuss using cell ids to determine which tower you are connected to. You would need to get into the ##DEBUG# screen to do that.

Yes both are 3G/4G ready.

Here is a little detailed map.. (Made with paint BTW)

Red dots are 3G/4G ready near home.

Blue dots are 3G ready.

Circle is the area where I live.

Based on the Sensorly readings, I would guess that the closest tower, and perhaps even the other tower is not yet broadcasting LTE. This is not overly unusually, as we have seen many towers sit quiet even after being officially signed off. However, if it is still like this in a week or two, I would start wondering if something is going on.

yes that's what I thought. That neither of those tower are broadcasting LTE because I cannot get LTE in many surrounding areas..

Thanks for the info. Dkoellerwx

Hi guys. I've just joined, though I've been following this site for quite a while.

Anyway, I've read, possibly on this thread, that using Netmonitor it's possible to tell if you've connected to an upgraded cell site based on the Network ID. NID 1 for old backhaul, NID 200 for the new backhaul. Anyway, there's a portion of Ave. Jesús T. Piñeiro in Hato Rey that I drive through every day that has an LTE signal but NID 1 instead of 200. I've never seen eHRPD reported on my cellphone on that area. Is that a sort of testing phase?

Same thing happens near the airport. The thing is that you can be connected to one site for 1x and another site for LTE.

That is happening near Puente Teodoro Moscoso.

I heard from a source that they are working on LTE on Vieques and Culebra, and then should start over in the USVI soon after. :fingers:

The same thing happened in Humacao, got LTE with NID 1 but when configured my Note 2 to pick only 3G, got old plain EVDO speeds. In the network.sprint.com that site got 1 "data speed upgrade". Two weeks after, checked the network.sprint.com again and saw at the same site 2 "data speed upgrade". Next day checked the Humacao site and my phone detected NID of 200, configured my Note 2 for 3G only and got 2MB speeds.

I think probably ( correct me if I'm wrong ), LTE was connected to the new backhaul and 3G to the old one until upgraded to NID 200.

Sagrado Corazon, Part of hato rey, choliseo until roosevelt ave have 4g. Santurce, Viejo San Juan still dont have. Apparently ( from a friend of mine in a sprint store metro area) due to the government change no service has been able to be added from Parada 26 down. I live near pavia and have constant issues. Hell i even had 2 weeks last year where i had to go out, to the highway munoz rivera or towards PD leon, near bellas artes to call. I m hopin they can bring 4g to santurce.

Huh? What does a government change have to do the work being realized as far as network upgrades? Are they building new towers that need government permits?

Anyway, I was at a doctor's office in Auxilio Mutuo yesterday and I had LTE in the doctor's examination room, but 1x in the waiting room ugh.

I also get pretty good LTE at my in-laws in Guayama, go figure.

Yup Sprint needs Carmen Yulin's permission to operate now. :P

Guayama is running LTE pretty strong... Mybin-laws also live there at Brisas del Mar and there is LTE all over the place

    • Reportedly Verizon has backed out, but that could be a negotiating tactic. T-Mobile needs another purchaser. They are doing a mmWave spectrum swap with AT&T, so maybe them. Could always go with a spectrum speculator.  The duo may not want the debt on their books until 2026.  I think the towers and customers may be dumped (handled separately).
    • I'm wondering which geographic areas T-Mobile might be interested in obtaining, or if it's strictly a spectrum sale of some kind.  In Virginia, US Cellular got three of the B41 licenses, including two in areas I frequent.  These two are in an area where US Cellular is severely spectrum constrained--just one block of CLR (B5) and one 5x5 in AWS-3 (B66), all running LTE.  (So 10x10 and 5x5.  Select towers also have B48 LTE on them, which is clearly at least 20 dB weaker than B5/66.)  I could definitely see interest from T-Mobile in the B41 licenses, but would have a hard time picturing US Cellular trying to continue serving these areas if it can't use spectrum to beef up its already-overwhelmed cell sites with more capacity.  (They keep adding towers to this very rural area to make up for it.)  Would T-Mobile buy out the area entirely to get a hold of the B41 licenses (and the B66 couldn't hurt either)?  Given US Cellular's strangehold over the area, would it even sell in that eventuality?  And then what would happen to the B5 spectrum?  Lots of questions.  Got my fingers crossed for T-Mobile obtaining the area and keeping most or all of the sites, as it could quickly and easily make reliable rural broadband a thing in the area, especially given how the Shentel merger went.  But I really have no sense of how likely it actually is. - Trip
    • Excellent discussion on Dish possibility here at 24:10:  https://the-week-with-roger.captivate.fm/episode/this-week-the-state-of-broadband-with-jonathan-chaplin Episode 191
    • Yup, you’re correct! Fortunately it’s all in one band so the modem will only see it as seven 100MHz n258 carriers if/when it gets deployed. Before the swap they'd have to aggregate multiple mmWave bands to do that and I'm not certain multi-band mmWave aggregation is possible with current handsets.
