After viewing Sprint's updated map by address evidently the tower in my area hasn't been upgraded yet which is mind boggling considering the fact that I live in the prime area of Columbia MD across from the mall and outdoor concert venue & lakefront. But there is LTE coverage down the street in a rural area. Still makes no sense for my reception to be that poor in regards to getting 1x speeds.

Drove across Baltimore this past Sunday and no LTE. Was at Morgan State Univ. which the map shows that area is suppose to have LTE. not once did my phone pick up a LTE signal.

Sprint is jumping the gun. oh well smh

Did you cycle your EVO to CDMA-only and then back? Or to airplane mode and back?

There are known connectivity issues with the EVO LTE that have been discussed in these forums ad nauseum and on the wall. There was an OTA for the EVO today which is supposed to resolve these issues.

Your handset could be partly to blame. I notice that you have an EVO 4G LTE. It is well known that this model's ability to connect to and hold an LTE signal has been gimped. They just released an OTA today that is supposed to help this.

I been doing it off and on. I am running a custom ROM though (MikG)

but I haven't read any known signal problems associated with the ROM.

Hey Robert, I was looking around my area and found this tower:

nG3Mgl.jpg

After seeing this:

eMCSLl.jpg

I guessed this tower hasn't been NVed. The Site ID is WA73XC097. Any idea when this could become NVed? Its in Baltimore (Almost Woodlawn).

I am out of town for the holiday and do not have access to all my data. I will not be able to respond until next week.

On way way up from Dulles Airport to Newark Airport, I hit a couple of LTE zones. 1st 1 is on 95 between 395 and Fort McHenry tunnel and the 2nd is at mm78 on I95.

I was at the sprint store in arundel mills mall and I have to say- the lte speeds are amazing. 15Mbps on a galaxy nexus! And the 3G speeds are great on the androids- 2Mbps on a S3 with lte off, and .14Mbps on the 4S. Looks like those horrible 3G speeds are Apple's fault! Hopefully they'll fix it in the iPhone 5, I'm planning to get one.

The iPhone likely hung on to a signal from a different site with its superior antenna. So I'm pretty sure that the Androids were connected to a NV site and the iPhone was connected to a legacy site. Happens all the time, even with Android devices. I've seen iPhones over 2Mbps when connected to a solid NV site. There is nothing wrong with the iPhone.

I know, I'm typing this from a 3GS! I love the iPhone, but it was both of the 4ses in the store. On top of that, my friend's sprint iPhone 4s is much slower then my dads S3 (on Sprint.)

After updating a custom rom on my phone (STOCK WITH GOODIES 2.02

SENSE 4.1) I was finally able to get a LTE connection as the updated rom contains the radio update.

The fastest result I got:

201054_10100411416240742_449719572_o.jpg

2nd highest was around 18mb down

Average was around 7mb down

I still believe there is an issue with my radio as I had to keep switching it back & forth from CDMA to LTE in which it would start on LTE and then jump back to 3G. Or the signal is just weak where I was at. I was located off 175 & Rt 1 by Jessup for most of the test and just got on 32 off I-95 when i got the high speed above.

I knew there was definitely an issue with my radio before i updated because I was at Arundel Mills Mall on Sunday and got no LTE connection at all when many others are said they definitely do get a connection in that area.

In regards to crappy 3G speeds

It has been beyond horrific in my area. I can barely load up wepbapes or upload photos to facebook most of the time. if it wasen;t for wifi my phone would be damn near useless most of the time. Its definitely the network because i esperienced the same thing with the EVO 3D in my area but had a strong WiMax 4G signal. Thats what sucks the most abotu this. There is a strong WiMax 4G signal in my area but no LTE yet. And I live in the prime location in Columbia MD by the Mall, Lakefront and Merriweather Post Pavilion

About that speed- you were right next to a tower. But if those are the speeds right next to a tower, then I'm more then impressed- my house has a tower directly behind it!

I need some help please......

I have a rooted and stock rom GS3.

I seem unable to connect to LTE in the canton/fells point area. The map show coverage.....but I have been rooted since I bought the phone.

I don't think I have the latest radios....????

I have been hitting "install later" for the past 2 weeks now on my phone, cause with root the update just fails. Do you guys think I should just unroot and install the updates....will these be my radios?

What PRI/Profiles am I looking for...??? My PRI is 25006

I went into settings....network settings and swtiched CDMA to LTE/CDMA, and toggled in and out of airplane mode...phone reboot etc...nothing.

Network still says EvDo-rev.A:8

Any links (XDA???) or direction on what to do would be greatly appreciated.

thanks guys/gals so much

-Jason

Has there been any new towers in the past two weeks. Things got very quiet after the initial roll out.

We posted 38 new sites in the Baltimore market this past Sunday. Not quiet at all.

  • 3 weeks later...

I work in the Woodlawn area and my 3G has been abysmal, and got worse when the rollout began. At times, with my Evo LTE I have been able to pick up 4G right at the edge. I picked up 4G outside Security Mall.

This past weekend I did pickup 4G is Westminster twice on seperate ends of town. Once was while at Lowes, the other was around Walmart.

I just received my iPhone 5 (YAY!) and I'll be at Security Mall later today. The tower servicing that area was supposed to have been upgraded, but 3G has been in the .15Mbps range.

Robert, now that we have a little bit of historical information.

What is the 4G LTE tower completion rate / week in the Baltimore area. Doesn't seem to be real aggressive if you don't average in the initial roll out towers.

Also, I have been trying to fill in some of the LTE spots on Sensorly but that seems to be meeting with limited success.

The tower handshaking between 3g/4g/3g signals seem to struggle in the Baltimore area.

Washington area while traveling south on Rt 29 close to the Beltway i-495 I was getting full bars good pings around 110 but d/l speeds in the single digits. Probably 6 towers worth. Similar to when the 4G LTE was 2 weeks out in the Baltimore area. Just an observation. No scientific backup.

    • Yep, there is a label on the side of the box but it doesn't provide any useful info that the city doesn't already provide (Crown Castle Solutions is the franchisee). You can see my graphical interpretation of the city's dataset here.

    • Totally agree.  In my county and surrounding counties, TM did not place n-41 on every site.  When I look at the sites in question, I probably would have not placed it there either.  I can find just a few with n-71 only and in most of those cases if you live there and know the probable usage of the residents, you would not do a full upgrade on those sites.  One site in particular is set up to force feed n-71 through a long tunnel on the Turnpike.  No stopping allowed in the tunnel. No stores, movie theaters, bathrooms, so n41 would be a waste.    n25 is not really needed either, so it is not there.  The tunnel is going through & under a mountain with more black bears than people.  TM was smart.  Get good coverage in the tunnel but do not waste many many thousands of dollars with extra unused spectrum. I also see sites with only n71 & n25.  Again this makes sense to me.  Depending on what county we are talking about, they moved much of their b25 from LTE to nr.  Some counties have more n25 than a neighboring county, but luckily, it is plenty everywhere.   When you are in a very rural area, n41 can run up the bills and then be barely used.  I am NOT finding sites that should have had n41 but TM failed to provide it.  They may have to come back later in a few years and upgrade the site to n41.  However, we just may eventually see the last little piece on Band 25 leave LTE and move to n25. I am not sure if the satellite to phone service is using band 25 G block as LTE or nr. We also can possibly have at least some AWS move from LTE to nr at some point.  Yes, everybody wants n41. it is not justified in some cases.  When I travel, I desire some decent service along the entire route but it does not have to be 1 or 2 gig download.   If I can get 50/5 on a speedtest with data that will flow and not stutter, I am very happy. Yes, they will swap out the USC gear.  TM needs to match their existing network. The USCC equipment did the job for years, but it is time to retire it.
