HTC EVO lte connection issues

it's that C64 he uses. Sometimes it hiccups and posts multiple times. When you use vintage hardware you have to expect things like that sometimes.

64k of ram buddy! Much faster than my Sprint Evdo speeds downtown that makes you hit submit about 10 times on Tapatalk :)

If it isn't a threshold issue, then what would need to be adjusted? From what I've seen the EVO LTE will only hold signal up to a certain point to which then it will switch back to 3G. Even though the LTE signal was weaker, it still could have performed better than the 3G it just switched to.

If that threshold of preferring a stronger 3G signal over a weaker (but better performing LTE signal vs 3G performance) isn't the problem... what is?

I would say just set the 4g threshold - db higher I.e

130 ish before it disconnects from 4g.. And at the same time set the 4g scanner timer to a faster rate.

You could do this with the og evo. Which made connecting to 4g wimax a lot faster and it held on the the 4g signal much longer in weaker conditions. Only thing was the battery life took a hit

Only problem is nobody has been able to find the threshold values. And if there is other issues besides the threshold adjustment, HTC/Sprint will need to fix them.

I'm petty sure I read I am this thread? That some here could at least manupilate the search/seek time

When searching for a lte signal?

Yeah the LTE scan timer can be adjusted, but once you get to a certain point the phone will give up LTE and default back to 3G.

I believe some code will need to be adjusted... More than just settings.

Someone needs to drag the programmer out in the field instead of just guessing on this thing from across the pond.

Continue from above... Borrow some of the settings or parameters from the GS3 radio chips and then use them as baseline parameters to adjust/test on the e4glte?

Is this threshold issue specific to sense roms? When I connect to 4g on a aosp rom it holds 4g much longer usually to around -125 db instead of -115 db in sense roms. Has anyone else watched their signal strengths to see when it tries to reconnect to 3G on sense roms?

My EVO running stock Sense holds the signal until -125dBm.

Saturday morning I was going to work at 10am. I left my house and started driving down the street towards the tower that broadcast LTE and I connect to LTE daily. I am about 1 mile from the tower. After turning right to get on the highway, which is just past the tower, I proceeded down the highway. Not once did my phone switch to LTE!!! I have been connected to LTE from this tower many times.and posted great speedtest from it.

Unless they were doing maintenance on the tower, I should have been connected LTE the whole time.

I am writing articles on it. :tu:

By no means am I saying that you’re slow or that you don’t have other things going on (like, I don’t know, your actual job), but is there any update on the article chronicling the testing that you did?

Oddly enough, I’m not so much looking forward to a fix as I am to seeing what the reaction from the tech world would be. Ideally, I'd like to see a nicely-summarized Engadget or BGR article on your data with “We have contacted HTC with questions” written somewhere in there.

Hell, I’d even be fine with Gizmodo writing another highly-opinionated article if it gets HTC’s attention. You know, the kind where author completely misses the point of your data and proclaims that this will end Sprint and puppy-killing HTC’s relationship for good while said author ignores the backlash of comments correcting the article? Yeah, I could totally go for one of those.

I have no idea. I'm drowning. Administrating the site is taking every spare minute I have.

I really have to applaud you for your efforts and then your wife/kids for allowing the time to be spent doing this. Bravo! I don't see how you do it, keeping up with the site, updates, etc and then on top of that replying to what seems like every thread on the board with nice long thought out well spoken posts. We all thank you! This might sounds like a dorky PSA but whatever...Just remember to place the family first as it's very easy to lose sight of things.

Perfectly stated.

I went to the HTC website and there are no complaints about LTE connection on their forum. So I tried to make one. The software kept erasing my text and said I needed to provide text in order to post a message.

I recently (12 days ago) upgraded to the Evo, and it's great.

BUT, now I've discovered this and dozens of other threads in forums all over the web about how the Evo has a lame radio, especially not connecting/finding LTE.

I don't have LTE in LA yet ... supposed to arrive by end of year ... so I have no way of testing.

These complaints have scared me; should I exchange it for a Galaxy S3 while I still can?

Would Sprint replace it later if my LTE connectivity sucks?

Dang!

Can anyone confirm that the Evo and the SG3 have the same hardware (radio/chipset/whatever) with regards to LTE?

Because if so, from reading this thread, it sounds like eventually someone will be able to fix it -- whether HTC, Sprint, or the devs at xda (who I hold in high esteem!).

The only reason I want to keep the Evo is for the f2.0 camera aperture ... but LTE is way more important.

They both have the same qualcomm s4 SoC so more than likely its a software issue with the device itself. If lte is that important to you though then just exchange it if you are still within your return window.

    • Totally agree.  In my county and surrounding counties, TM did not place n-41 on every site.  When I look at the sites in question, I probably would have not placed it there either.  I can find just a few with n-71 only and in most of those cases if you live there and know the probable usage of the residents, you would not do a full upgrade on those sites.  One site in particular is set up to force feed n-71 through a long tunnel on the Turnpike.  No stopping allowed in the tunnel. No stores, movie theaters, bathrooms, so n41 would be a waste.    n25 is not really needed either, so it is not there.  The tunnel is going through & under a mountain with more black bears than people.  TM was smart.  Get good coverage in the tunnel but do not waste many many thousands of dollars with extra unused spectrum. I also see sites with only n71 & n25.  Again this makes sense to me.  Depending on what county we are talking about, they moved much of their b25 from LTE to nr.  Some counties have more n25 than a neighboring county, but luckily, it is plenty everywhere.   When you are in a very rural area, n41 can run up the bills and then be barely used.  I am NOT finding sites that should have had n41 but TM failed to provide it.  They may have to come back later in a few years and upgrade the site to n41.  However, we just may eventually see the last little piece on Band 25 leave LTE and move to n25. I am not sure if the satellite to phone service is using band 25 G block as LTE or nr. We also can possibly have at least some AWS move from LTE to nr at some point.  Yes, everybody wants n41. it is not justified in some cases.  When I travel, I desire some decent service along the entire route but it does not have to be 1 or 2 gig download.   If I can get 50/5 on a speedtest with data that will flow and not stutter, I am very happy. Yes, they will swap out the USC gear.  TM needs to match their existing network. The USCC equipment did the job for years, but it is time to retire it.
    • Lots of time if you can get close to the pole, you will see a sticky label on the box that is low enough to read. Most of the time it warns of RF exposure but also it may have a toll free number to call if there is an issue. Sometimes there is a power company meter with the name of the user. I would be surprised if there was nothing there to help identify it.  Thinking further, if this is multi-Tenant oDAS, then maybe you might only see some name like Crown Castle or maybe even a department in the city government.   An app on your phone may show the carrier(s)
    • I found a multi-carrier oDAS node at the corner of Bushwick Ave & Cedar St. You can see an upgraded Verizon macro deployment behind the node, and T-Mobile has a fully upgraded site only a block away. So, the only thing that makes sense is that this is an AT&T node with LTE+mmWave (or maybe C-Band).
    • I tried going into a Boost Mobile store and they wouldn't sell me a rainbow SIM card, said that it would be dead as soon as I put it in the Moto Edge 2023... which I know is bs...
    • They didn't do all 2.5 with the Sprint merger, so I'm not sure why they would do that for USCC in areas arguably more rural. But I'm 100% sure they'll swap out the gear. - Trip
