HTC Pre-Order Thread

I still haven't gotten as much a a peep from Sprint! No email or call! So as far a most people would know they should have already gotten their phones! I am so getting my $36 activation and $45 upgrade fee back for this BS! My account still shows we'll try to get it to you before the natinal launch and on the sprint site in my orders it says in progress. Also my account balanace still shows negative -211 dollar. Arg Sprint get your crap together! At least call, text or email me letting me know I'm being screwed!

How are you getting screwed? When you pre-ordered they said they would do their best to get the phone to you by or before the launch date. The phone hasn't officially launched due to circumstances that are apparently out of Sprint's control.

I can understand the frustration of not getting something when you expected but I don't see how Sprint is screwing anybody over on this one.

Speaking of the activation fee. I replaced my wife's phone two weeks ago at BB, (she wasn't interested in waiting for the new Evo she just wanted to get rid of her Hero), and there was no activation charge on my next statement, but they did update the data charge to make sure they were hitting me for another $10 a month.

Apparently our pre-orders are free from customs! Let's hope to see some shipping e-mails / dates tomorrow!!!

HTC EVO 4G LTE: Cleared by Customs

20

05

2012

It would appear that customs has cleared the HTC EVO 4G LTE. According to the TaiPei Times:

“In a twist to the US’ import ban on various HTC Corp (宏達電) smartphones, the company yesterday said some of its products blocked by US customs because of patent-infringement concerns had been allowed to enter the US market after passing the customs’ review.”

I have not seen anything internally yet as far as shipping dates, but I would expect to have that info either later tonight or super early in the morning. I do know there were several plans drafted based on when they would be cleared, so I’ll get that info and match it up and see where we’re at. Hang tight, it’s going to be a fast paced next 24 hours! :) And who knew customs worked on the weekend for commercial stuff!

Thanks to about 200 people that sent me this article! I was out at brunch and having drinks with some friends on a lazy day, and had no expectations of anything breaking today :) At least now I’ve got some snooping to do.

All I hear are crickets around here. Anybody get their tracking info yet? Some at Android central forums are reporting as such.

Here's their number if you want to creep their tracking page...1ZE79525NY92387370

Repost for those who want a tracking number, follow my instructions even if a tracking number is not showing on Sprint.com or on your order page:

ruplyb.jpgImage or it's not real shot above!

I just went to UPS track by reference as the user before me said and put my Sprint account number as reference, my zip code and choose USA as shipping country and that above came up. :) I'm not sure if I should be happy as it says 2 day air? Shouldn't it be next day? I won't be getting it til Friday by that fact?

My Sprint.com/myorder shows,

"Thank you for pre-ordering the EVO 4G LTE. We will do our best to get it to you by Thursday, May 24. And my Sprint.com order info under See My Bill > See My Order History shows

Order in Progress

Also my Sprint account still shows a negative balance of -$211.99 which is the cost of the phone plus my states sales tax. Man is Sprint backwards! I also never received the "delayed" email many others that preordered from Sprint had gotten saying the phone was delayed! The only email I have from Sprint is my order purchase receipt and THAT IS IT! So if I wasn't vigilant checking online I would be left to think the phone was lost or stolen! Sprint has still yet to send me a text message, call or email that I would not be getting my phone "on or before Friday May 18th" and then it was "on or before Thursday, May 24th" only to now have it become "by Thursday, May 24" with the "on or before" language removed?

And don't tell me they didn't know till days before the launch that the phone might be delayed as many sites reported they knew they were going to have issues but tried to squeak through anyway! Remember "Risk with Mitigation!" on the HTC EVO 4G LTE paperwork on s4gru.com? Sprint has been pissing off their loyal customers for NO REASON WHATSOEVER!?

Where is the SprintInsider and why has he been so quiet since yesterday? He would have given himself away today by saying he wasn't able to make the conference call so something has to be up as everyone would say hey it's Bill (him)? Something isn't right or the guy at insidesprintnow.wordpress.com is Dan Hesse himself! There is no way Sprint wouldn’t track him down and hang him, not literally but after the lawyers he may have wished they did. This site and Twitter account have now been cited in many news stories and even in the official Sprint forums so either they already know who he is and approve of having an under the table news source to get info out to customers without the pressure of getting things wrong in the mainstream press?

But to me it makes no sense as I would have more appreciation for Sprint if they supported an official blog, maybe even this one? Wouldn’t it be cool if Sprint had this blogger on their official site? Maybe even Dan Hesse himself could post from time to time? I like Hesse and I thought his move to buy MetroPCS made sense as Sprint could have launched MetroPCS’ own LTE network as their own and we could have been using LTE on our soon to be new EVO LTEs in the old MetroPCS markets! Man think how cool that would have been as Sprint could have hooked their backhaul onto MetroPCS superior network technology and they would have sped up the LTE launch by a year plus! Hesse is the man and Sprint needs to keep him around and learn a thing or two!

The screenshot says that a shipping label was created on May 22. Shipped via 2nd Day Air would put arrival on May 24. That's Thursday by my calendar.

The phrasing that I think keeps getting missed here is "We will do our best". I don't see that as a promise or commitment to a certain day. I see it as they will do their best, BUT, there is a chance that they will miss that date.

I just got my tracking number by reference as well and I have 2nd day air as well, which I'm not happy about. We were supposed to have Overnight Next Day PM, per the method I put on page 6. If you grab your DM order number and throw it at the end of this:

https://myaccountportal.sprint.com/servlet/ecare?inf_action=orderLines&orderId=

...while logged into your sprint account (See My Bill > Recent Order Status section) it will show exactly that. I'm showing Friday delivery on mine as well and of course I work 7-7 that night. Hopefully, the UPS truck will show up after my wife gets home unless a signature's required. I'm going to try and hunt down the option to not require one in the UPS MyChoice options.I may even call Sprint about it, but I think it's too late at this point.

I would add to what you said but I really don't see the point.

    • I assume that any agreement is not perpetual and has an end date. - Trip
    • I think it is likely that T-Mobile will be forced to honor any existing US cellular roaming agreements in those areas as a condition of them taking over the spectrum.  In that case, there would be no improvement of service unless T-Mobile improves the service offering in those areas.
    • My understanding is the MNO carriers are the one who have objected to the use of cell phones in commercial planes.  I understand that it ties down too many cell phones at once, thus I can not see this changing. However this depends on how it is structured. Use of a different plmn for satellite service might make it possible for planes only to connect with satellite. Private pilots have been using cellphones in planes for many decades. Far fewer phones at a lower altitude.
    • On Reddit, someone asked (skeptically) if the US Cellular buyout would result in better service.  I'd been pondering this very issue, and decided to cross-post my response here: I've been pondering the question in the title and I've come to the conclusion that the answer is that it's possible. Hear me out. Unlike some of the small carriers that work exclusively with one larger carrier, all three major carriers roam on US Cellular today in at least some areas, so far as I know. If that network ceases to exist, then the carriers would presumably want to recover those areas of lost service by building out natively. Thus, people in those areas who may only have service from US Cellular or from US Cellular and one other may gain competition from other carriers backfilling that loss. How likely is it? I'm not sure. But it's definitely feasible. Most notably, AT&T did their big roaming deal with US Cellular in support of FirstNet in places where they lacked native coverage. They can't just lose a huge chunk of coverage whole still making FirstNet happy; I suspect they'll have to build out and recover at least some of that area, if not most of it. So it'd be indirect, but I could imagine it. - Trip
    • Historically, T-Mobile has been the only carrier contracting with Crown Castle Solutions, at least in Brooklyn. I did a quick count of the ~35 nodes currently marked as "installed" and everything mapped appears to be T-Mobile. However, they have a macro sector pointed directly at this site and seem to continue relying on the older-style DAS nodes. Additionally, there's another Crown Castle Solutions node approved for construction just around the corner, well within range of their macro. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Verizon using a new vendor for their mmWave build, especially since the macro site directly behind this node lacks mmWave/CBRS deployment (limited to LTE plus C-Band). However, opting for a multi-carrier solution here seems unlikely unless another carrier has actually joined the build. This node is equidistant (about five blocks) between two AT&T macro sites, and there are no oDAS nodes deployed nearby. Although I'm not currently mapping AT&T, based on CellMapper, it appears to be right on cell edge for both sites. Regardless, it appears that whoever is deploying is planning for a significant build. There are eight Crown Castle Solutions nodes approved for construction in a 12-block by 2-block area.
