Google Nexus 5X by LG User Thread (LG H790)

I thought that too, but the discrepancy between engineering screens and signal check doesn't make any sense. The reported 1x RX power from the engineering screen doesn't match the value for 1x or EVDO as reported by signal check.

Sometime there is a delay between signal updates on the 5X between engineering screen and what signal check pro reported so I thought the same as you. I watched it long enough and compared to my Nexus 6 engineering screens and i eventually determined it matched.

Hm alright. Is Mike already aware of the issue?

Has anyone else tried to use 1x data on their Nexus 5x? Ever since I got this phone, I can't listen to a 32 kbps stream without a lot of timeouts or browse the web without seeing a 'Website Not Available' message while on 1xRTT. Data seems to work fine for about 5 seconds before my data meter goes back to 0 and I buffer until my stream drops out or a webpage times out.

It used to be that 1x would allow me to listen to a 64 kbps stream without any issues and do some light browsing. But now I can't do much. Anyone else's phone do this as well? My Galaxy S5 never did so I'm trying to figure if this is a network issue or a handset issue.

The Nexus 5X has a highly smudge prone screen.  Clean it, then 30 seconds later, it is smeared again.  All reportedly use Corning Gorilla Glass 3, but the 2014 Moto X and 2015 Moto X Pure Edition stay clean far better than does the Nexus 5X.  Maybe differences in oleophobic coating quality are at issue.  I am ready to move on from LG in the Nexus line.

I don't have smudging issues on mine. Maybe the oleophobic coating has worn off a bit more with age.

I haven't had problems switching between Sprint SIM and other GSM provider SIMs in my Nexus devices. Most of the problems come from switching between Sprint MVNO's and Sprint. Also, make sure you don't change your Sprint account to another device while using the GSM SIM.

I know this is an old post to ask for clarification on, but I wanted to test another phone on my line for a bit, and I wanted to put a GSM sim in my 5X while I'm doing it.. what are the difficulties in swapping to another device, then swapping a different sim into the Nexus while I'm using the other device on my Sprint line? I know I'll probably have to chat to get the swap to work, as I've experienced in the past going from an LTE device to a 3G device and back. It just seems odd that you could swap sims back and forth without issues while it's still active on your Sprint line, but not while it's inactive. Thoughts?

MMS may be broken when you bring your Nexus 5x back to Sprint after using it with another carrier (as it has when I used my Nexus 5x with an international sim). But the good news is that this can be solved rather quickly under the *#*#3282#*#* menu by resetting APN once you insert your Sprint SIM card back.

Of course, you will also have to activate the Nexus 5x via online, store, or chat when you bring back the Nexus to your Sprint line. Not being able to switch via SIM swap is extremely annoying and Sprint should find a way to move away from their dumb activation process.

Thanks. That doesn't sound too bad I guess. The online swap seems hit or miss when going between 3G and 4G phones, but the chat is usually pretty quick. I'm surprised to hear about the APN thing, since I have swapped sims back and forth without issue for speed testing purposes (leaving the Sprint sim active..). Then again I was probably only testing mainly data, and possibly calls.

Anyone else notice that CA doesn't work when the phone is actively using SRLTE instead of eCSFB? I've noticed my speeds are half of what they usually are if I'm connected to both 1x and LTE B41 on SCP.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's a technical limitation.

My favorite thing about Android 7.0 so far is that the swipe down for notification gesture in Nova launcher finally works properly now. Looking forward to finding out how well the new Doze works.

Did the new Nougat update include an updated radio img? Seems like in weak places my data will drop and only connect to 1x whereas before it would hold on to weak, yet usable EVDO 3G.

Yes, new radio included.

Tried installing twrp on this phone with Nougat but everytime I did it would revert back to stock recovery. I gave up.

Anyone have any success with twrp? Or do I even need to have a custom recovery in order to flash an older radio img? Could I OEM unlock and then just flash the radio? If it corrupts or something goes wrong I should be able to just flash Nougat back without twrp....right???

Not sure about twrp but I think you can flash radios without a custom recovery.

I am really disappointed in how much more complicated it is to use custom recovery or Android build on the N5X compared to the N4. I'm afraid to mess with it. I just picked up a second N4 for $60 that is like new. Love that little phone. I rotate through four different OSes on them.

Woohoo! I'm a lucky winner! I get to go a week+ without a phone! http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-5x-android-7-nougat-bootloop-issue-717698/

Anybody know how to navigate the pathetic Nexus hardware support system? Is a phone call during business hours (when I'm totally unavailable for the next three days) the only option? This is throwing a massive molten wrench into my week.

Go direct to LG. They're doing RMAs for this issue.

So my device decided to not power on anymore today... I think its a sign I need to order a Pixel :)  Called Google support and apparently today was the last day of the 1 year warranty.. YAY, didn't have to use the Nexus protect.  I really didn't want to spend $79 more to get a replacement if it was a hardware issue.

My Nexus 5X stopped working on the 13th too a day after an vacation. I had Google to call me in order to get the phone replaced and can't activate it because it is not in Sprint's database.

This is what I sent to Google on the "Get a call from a Google Support Specialist" page:

"I was using the phone and the display just went off. The PC detects the Nexus 5X as a unknown device or "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" now. I tried to adb sideload android but it keeps turning off and shows up as QDLoader 9008."

The replacement refurbished Nexus 5X had Android 6.0.1 with the February security patch.

They're sending refurbished devices? Boooooo. Not cool. (But only because mine was still in perfect condition.) Why not just swap the boards? The back is user-removable. Maybe it'll be different for mine since I'm going through LG.

Dear Caspar,

Thanks for the email. We really appreciate that you took time to share your concern. We do recognize the frustration and disappointment this has brought as LG doesn’t expect this to happen. We apologize for any inconvenience you may be experiencing.

We hope everything is going well with you.

In regards with this, your Return Authorization XXXXXXXXXXX was received by the facility 10/31/16. Case was still OPEN; that means that REPAIR IS IN PROGRESS. Supposedly, turn around time will be 7-9 business days, starting from the day that we received it until you received it back.

As per checking the repair history, the unit has been transferred to board repair for motherboard replacement, and that repair is still ongoing. Unexpectedly, it seems that we do have a back order on the motherboard that is causing the delay. In line with this, we will file an Escalation Follow-Up Request. This is to alert the technicians to give priority on your repair once the part arrives. Apparently, we still do not have Estimated Time of Availability. No worries, rest assured we are already working on it.

You may also check your email with the shipping label, near the bottom part, there was a section that says, “Tracking your repair”. By clicking this, you will be able to track your repair from the day that you send it until the day you get it back. This is just an easy way you can check status online at any time.

If it is ready for ship out, it would also give you an outbound tracking number for reference.

We are sorry for the inconvenience. Should you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again via Email, Live Chat, or Phone by calling 1-800-793-8896. For any concern about phone, tablets and headsets repair request you can visit WWW.LGMOBILEREPAIR.COM. Thank you for choosing LG Electronics. Have a great day!

Seeing as it's been a month since my 5X abruptly died on me (3 weeks since LG received it from me) and LG still hasn't fixed it, I sent them an email yesterday asking for a loaner device or a full refund. We'll see what happens.

How lovely. My 5x decides to bootloop today.

May 2016 - November 2016

I hardly knew ye.

Good luck. Took em a month to fix mine. They just told me today it's shipped out due here by Friday. I'm really surprised this isn't getting more press attention on the android fan sites because it looks like a pretty decent percentage of units are affected and IMO LG is NOT handling this well.

I've had to RMA LG, HTC, and Motorola devices, and LG is the only OEM that hasn't offered to send a temporary loaner phone. Which normally wouldn't bother me, but apparently they don't keep enough stock of their own parts on hand and it took them a month to get a new motherboard to fix my phone.
