T-Mobile LTE & Network Discussion V2

Hey, in my backwoods area, T-Mobile has twice the cell sites as Sprint. They use microwave backhaul here, as well as Verizon. All 4 carriers here have issues. I'm not even speaking of my market.

U can't comment on markets u yourself haven't visited.

Don't waste your keystrokes arguing with him -- he feeds on it.  Looking at his screenshot, it is possible that he was on WiFi, not even on LTE.

I understand that "this isn't English class," but, honestly, how hard is it to type the word "you"?

That was a such thing called a typo. And who is talking about grammar this isn't English class. You said T-Mobile speeds are slowing. I posted a speed test of a T-Mobile line getting faster speeds JUST on band 4 than I saw Sprint or AT&T on multiple bands.

And just because your backwoods area is doing bad it doesn't reflect the use of others either. So can you please stop spreading bs. You are sounding more and more like a fan boy every post.

So is yours. Point blank it's too early to tell if BingeOn is having a negative impact on the network.

Now back on topic I see nobody has said anything about those 20x20 band 4 speed tests.

Was that your speed test because someone posted that screenshot on Howardforums as well?

I knew I saw that test before on reddit. The person that posted that speed test was likely one of the only people on that sector. T-Mobile is increasing backhaul across the NYC market and they recently upgraded to 20x20 AWS but that speed test is not indicative of what speeds are like across the entire NYC market. Most areas are not that fast at all.

I can find areas in certain cities where I can pull 100Mbps+ speed tests too. Doesn't mean that the entire city is that way.

I may believe it's possible in already highly populous areas, but in my corner of suburbia the theory of BingeOn bringing the network to its knees (or just slowing it down) is absolute bunk. I took a phone with a T-Mo SIM out with me today and witnessed no less than 20 Mbps and peaked at 81 Mbps, with an average around 30-50 Mbps.

Even if "everyone" is suddenly watching crap all the time, the network can handle it here...

I'll have to test in the city when I go there next.

What ought to be more worrisome is everyone being upgraded to unlimited for three months. Word gets to the masses about that and look out.

That's right! Regardless of whether they add YouTube to the their CringeOn manifesto, we still have to start popping the popcorn for December 1st and their Unlimited Throttle Deprioritization nonsense!

Oh that's going to be good. Just wait until the end of next month. I bet we'll be picking a best horror story post of the day every day.

Maybe we should start a new thread to try and be somewhat decent to this one.  :D

Xodium is one of the bigger pro-Tmo people on there. That is what is surprising to me.

On a side note, what is your issue with VZW? As much as I don't care for their business practices, they are still the gold standard for around STL and Southern IL, frankly for most of America from a network POV. While I wish Sprint worked in Chester, there are worse things than being stuck on VZ here.

You may want to take a look at punctuation rules again, friend.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
