LG G4 User Thread (Was: Rumor Thread)

Sprint also offers a wifi router that priorities the WiFi calling over other traffic. This may fix you WiFI calling issue. They offer this for free just like the Airave, if you have signal issues.

No, they don't... I checked into it...it's not available anymore (and I checked back in November.)  I'm thinking they didn't have the affect they were hoping for. As for the data...I'm sizing the pics now to post.

This is just with the phone idle on wifi calling, no call in progress.
My connection / modem setup is as follows:

                                                                               ----->TP-Link Archer C3200
DSL Modem ----->Netgear Nighthawk X8(R8500) ----->Airave
                                                                               ----->Desktop

This is on a phone wifi call to my voicemail...

This is on a wifi call to another phone on my account...from my phone.

Airave data coming. I'm headed to UPS to pick it up now.

So roughly it's 100+ kbps upload, and 100+kbps download to negotiate and keep an active call on wifi calling.

2 phones on wifi calling each calling their own voicemail didn't make any difference. Stayed at 100 +/- kbps...

Now as for the quality of each call, I didn't have them trying to talk or listen to each...I sat them both down and made the calls, then checked my router activity via the above screen...which is "Access Control"

Here's the airave hooked up, my SGN5 connected, my LG G4 connected, and my wife's SGN5 connected. I made a VM call with my GN5, other 2 are still idle.

Here's a call to call with both phones on the Airave (beep when answer). This is from SGN5 to LG G4. I should note that I waited 30 seconds into phone call to refresh the Netgear page so the activity is accurate (on EVERY screenshot...so the phone calls are well established in every screenshot.)

So does this explain why I rather use the airave versus Wifi calling...especially with my sh*tty connection?

It may not be much difference (well actually in one phone call situation it is a good bit)...but in 2 call situations the airave still doesn't eat as much bandwidth as wifi calling does in just one call. Two phones on airave making a call eats less bandwidth than 1 phone making a wifi call.

They still do.

You just need to be persistent with the front line sales people or contact the airave support team.

Their plan is to 100% replace airaves by migrating over to wifi calling. Thus they offer the rebranded ac66.

Well when wifi calling performs as I've shown above, it definitely won't be my preference...and I'll fight to keep my airave if I have to. However, when I called the direct line for airave support, 866.556.7310, they were eager to replace the airave, the ac adapter, or both. It was my decision of whichever one I wanted. I told them I wasn't sure if the ac adapter quit, or the airave itself quit..but it wouldn't come on at all -- no lights.

After the phone call, I used my fluke to test the ac adapter and it was fine -- still outputting 12.2v (says 12v 2a)..

So the airave was the culprit and i'm glad I asked for the entire thing to be replaced.

Looks like I have to call them back and have them turn up the broadcast area. Seems they don't put the replacement under the same provisioning as the original (i had a ticket for my broken one to be turned up..).

There's a specific number to call and they will take care of it right away. Don't remember it, but it was in the WiFi calling thread. May try to find it later if I have time.

Interesting numbers.  Thanks.  Does HD Voice show up on the G4 when using WiFi calling?

Airave might be easier in the sense that if WiFi is also enabled the phone calls and data use will be separate.  I still would set the QOS in your Nighthawk enable WMM (Wi-Fi multimedia (5 GHz a/n/ac) from what you have shown above. Details here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/R8500/R8500_UM_30sep2015.pdf

on pages 105-106, else try the Dynamic QOS starting on page 101.  This way when either the upload or download is fully saturated the phone calls should still be possible.

I guess I should note that I'm asked to do weird things in the name of testing network devices for a few companies...

There isn't much in the way of settings, aside from VPN, that I haven't tinkered with at one time or another.

I set up all my routers in the same manner -- and that is from the viewpoint of having a suck-a$$ internet connection.

So on the router side, I should be as optimized as I can possibly get.

I only wish AT&T felt the same way and would turn the DSLAM up to max...I could possibly get 12mbps down and 3mbps up..but that's a pipe dream. I'll be stuck with 6mbps down and 0.5mbps up for the next decade or 2.

Where can I buy the LG G4 on 2-year contract?

Best Buy offers for $1, but that is store pickup only, and inputting East Coast zip codes show that it is actually not available anywhere.

Sprint website wants $199; more than the LG G5!  :td:

When I needed to replace my G3 ASAP, I tried getting a G4 from Best Buy at first and said they had none and could get none by me.

I wouldnt be surprised in a month after more and more people go to the G5, the price drops a bit for it for Sprint.

My phone updated to ZVB this morning.   As far as I can tell, nothing is changed except Android security level advanced to 2016-03-01.  Sprint shows no record of ZVB on their web site.  Is Google rolling out more frequent security updates without Sprint's involvement?

I am usually one of the last to get updates.  Looks like I may one of the first this time.

The LG G4 (Non-Rooted)

Need to know if this is a software or hardware issue.

Today the device wouldn't turn on.

Removed the battery for a minute.

Placed the battery back in.

Powered up!

Looked to be okay then froze and restarted.

Now it's in a loop restarting from welcome screen to main display then again and after two or three times it shuts off and needing again to remove the battery to power up.

Also TRIED a hard reset step but when it looks to be pulling up the recovery mode it stalls then goes to the " LG life's good powered by android " screen display but doesn't go anywhere. It stuck there.

Recommendations!

If made sometime before early fall, could be covered by a special warranty for boot loop issues. Take to Sprint repair center.

Mine did something similar in February, it was related to the G4 recall. If you bought it before September, they should replace it no questions asked.
