Newest Sprint Zone

I just got the update. I went to the app and turned off auto-update, turned back on and then refreshed the app and it started downloading.

The app is much cleaner, smoother, and has a touch of Material Design. It also tells you data usage in gigabytes now. I love it!

Cool! That apk works in my Nexus 5! None of the previous ones installed successfully. The device diagnostics tool is pretty cool.

Unfortunately it says usage data is not supported in my device.

I get the same thing on my Nexus 5 after side loading the apk.

Hmm, it doesn't recognize my phone number and won't let me log in saying mdn is required as a parameter.

Interesting.  Did you have a working Sprint Zone apk on your Nexus before?  It may be the way Nexus authenticates with Sprint, since it's not an actual "Sprint" phone.

It works with the Nexus 5 if you manually override your device and account info. You will need root.
Open this file:

/data/data/com.sprint.zone/shared_preferences/com.sprint.zone_preferences.xml

Add the following lines with the correct values:

<string name="funnyPref1">%NAI%</string>
<string name="funnyPref2">%MEID-HEX%</string>
<string name="funnyPref3">%RESELLER-ID%</string>
<string name="funnyPref4">%MSID%</string>
<string name="funnyPref5">%PRL-VERSION%</string>
<string name="funnyPref6">%MDN%</string>
<string name="funnyPref7">%MAKE%</string>
<string name="funnyPref8">%MODEL%</string>

Mine looked similar to this when I was done (real info masked):

<string name="funnyPref1">myname00@sprintpcs.com</string>
<string name="funnyPref2">0123456789ABCD</string>
<string name="funnyPref3">Sprint</string>
<string name="funnyPref4">5045551212</string>
<string name="funnyPref5">55021</string>
<string name="funnyPref6">5045551212</string>
<string name="funnyPref7">LG</string>
<string name="funnyPref8">Nexus 5</string>

I found about these settings last year by reverse-engineering an older version of the app when it didn't work out-of-the-box on my Nexus S. They seem to exist for debugging purposes and will override the (not) detected values.

Thanks! This did the trick! Also, as far as "funnyPref1" goes, each person will have to figure out their NAI, mine ended in 02 instead of 00. I used the Nexus 5 Field Test app, then Settings(view) --> Data Profile --> View.

Not working on my flagship (non spark) S4. Got a box that popped showing "Describe Error" and said "There was a problem parsing the package"

Yup, the new update installed at 3:45 am this morning and gave me the Extra "Fun & Games" app on my Moto X. Tried opening the app but it does not work giving me an error to try later. Tried opening the Sprint Zone and same error message.

Uninstalled update and the "Fun & Games" went away.

Disabled Sprint Zone, I really dislike bloatware.

    • Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are more Link5G sites as there are Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T small cells combined in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them.  — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and coule potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.
    • Still not seeing any ULS postings for pending T-Mobile UScellular merger in Dane county Wisconsin.
    • Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
