Sprint Testing New Data Plan Options

So Sprint is conducting market tests on several new family plan options as well as new individual plan. One looks to be a similar option to what AT&T and Verizon's family plans look like.  The other is a modified Framily plan that starts at a lower price point.  And finally a new plan for individuals.

Here we go!  This could be Sprint turning the corner!! although they are only a few bucks cheaper than att because the T charges $15 a line and sprint would be $25 so its really $110 for Sprint and $130 For T but hey I love the fact sprint is now trying!

Hmmm...Seems like there are some changes around the corner possibly. And maybe a small push away from unlimited data which I doubt.

Definitely something to keep an eye on.

I would like to see more disruptive service options, personally... but I don't have any issues with Sprint testing out what their competitors are doing.

Hopefully it leads to even more competitive offerings from all carriers.

Maybe these plans can be used to lure people away from the big two that isn't interested in unlimited data and has families that are seeking cheaper alternatives to the big two.

Its about time. The Framily idea doesnt need to go away, but there needs to be options for the average sized family who isnt interested in the framily shuffle/gimmick. Im not convinced asking a family of 3-4 to share 6 or 10 GB is unreasonable.

Not sure I understand the add a line pricing differences though. Would you choose $160 for 20GB to share with 4 lines or $160 for 10GB to share with 4 lines?

I'm actually in the market for a new provider as my data usage has gone up (currently on Ting). The Framily plan changes are pretty intriguing to me because the requirement for 7 people has kinda been stopping me from going in on it. I also am not a huge fan of the whole not being able to leave a framily that loses members etc so having a lower starting point is compelling for someone like me.

Still not sure what route I will go as my wife and I's Nexus 5 phones leaves me lots of options on AT&T and T-Mobile as well..

Will someone please transcribe the family plan table and other trial plan descriptions from the CNET article?  That info should be directly posted in this thread.

Thanks from the staff...

Family plans:

  • 1GB for $20 per month
  • 2GB for $30 per month
  • 4GB for $40 per month
  • 6GB for $50 per month
  • 10GB for $60 per month
  • 20GB for $100 per month
  • 30GB for $130 per month
  • 40GB for $150 per month
  • 60GB for $225 per month

For the 1GB to 10GB allotments, the line fee is $25 for a smartphone, while the 20GB or higher plans come with a $15 line charge.

Framily Plans

The plans starts at $45 per month, $10 less than the standard Framily plan, and go down to $25 per month with 5 users instead of 7. Sprint is also offering annual upgrades for unlimited data customers in Buffalo and Philly, while Providence-based users will pay $5 per month for annual upgrades.

Individual Plans

Sprint is trying out a new individual plan in Chicago, Minneapolis and West Michigan. The plans include a $40 plan with unlimited talk and text and 3GB of data or $50 for an unlimited offering.

Well, that's all I needed to hear. Heading down to a corporate Sprint store tomorrow, and pulling a line off of Ting to try this.

The lower Framily requirement's are nice, I hope that rolls out over the current Framily offering. I've had some interest in other people joining mine (currently at 3) but not until the rate gets lower. It would be a bit easier to recruit. The family share data plan seems odd, who would take 4 lines with 10GB when 4 lines with 20GB is the same price?

Your right about the weirdness there. I wonder if it's done as a response to AT&T:

Sprint - 10GB, 2 lines, $110/month + tax.

AT&T - 10GB, 2 lines, $130/month + tax.

Sprint - 20GB, 2 lines, $130/month + tax.

Same thing for $20/month less, or 2x the data for the same price. Easy decision for Sprint either way folks spin.

I actually love these plans and I still love the framily concept (seperate billing, savings for each member). Keep it up Sprint!!

- random, but I honestly don't want the merger with tmobile anymore to happen. I really want the sprint brand to make a comeback

I don't see how they can have a dense enough network with out the tmoble merger.

Density isn't a problem in a lot of cities. Sprint's site density is insane here in NYC. You have "full signal" nearly everywhere outdoors.

Unfortunately for me, with 4 lines, Sprint's plans either at the 10GB or 20GB level come out to $160/mo, which is exactly the same as AT&T and unless Sprint's network matches or exceeds AT&T's in coverage I will not switch my personal lines. Sorry Sprint!

Except 2xs the data Compared to ATT??

But yes until Sprints coverage expands I don't have high expectations of people running to sprint. But if that CCA becomes native....

I know when I went to check out AT&T there was a $40 dollars add on to the smart phones on the $160.00 plan (Did it did a check out online). I wonder if Sprint will be doing the smart phone add on also.

I am only paying $40/line for 4 smartphones+tax with AT&T. Is that $40/for the 5th smartphone?

This is what I saw online here.  But I see where the 10GB plan here.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong as usual.

Can we please get back on topic? Thank you :tu:

So how do corporate discounts work with these newer plans?

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
