En la Reunion de ayer d empleados de sprint confirmaron que ya la red esta lista 100% hasta viequez y culebra y isla virgenes tendran 4g lte aparentemente el lema o la estrategia q va a usar sprint sera es solo mas que 4g pues sera la unica y la primera compania que va q correra el network por microonda a diferencia d las demas q es fibra optica solo viequez culebra y isla virgenes sera por fibra optica el network va a estar tan brutal q la red puede soportar hasta 512 T1 vs las demas compañias incluyendo sprint q solo soporta 8 T1 segun el ingeniero de sony ericsson.por otra parte en la mas q se estan enfocando es de estabilizar el network cual ya ante mano notificaron q cliente con algunos celulares se quedaran sin señal debido a q el network viejo se va a apagar y como no se actualizan el prl aereo pues tendran q pasar a la tienda para un manual prl puerto rico sera el primero el primero en completar el network aparte q sera la unica compania en correr 3 frecuencia desde la misma antenna Wimax 2.5ghz 1900mhz y 800mhz una vez culmine la transcision d nextel desde hoy empiezan ingenieros de sony ericcson a certificar y verificar el network para su lanzamiento el cual no dieron fecha pero si dijeron q para media de enero 2013 debe culminar todo lo relacionado...

I saw a post here saying that engineers from Ericcson are doing the sites inspection for Sprint aceptance.

I was thinking the same... Fiber will be the best medium for data transport. Microwave will be use for connecting the tower to a site with fiber access.

Microwave is better for getting data from one site to another. It is very cost effiective, and it is rapidly deployed. Obiously a direct fiber connection is better but the deployment would take a lot longer and it would cost sprint a lot more. The only diference between a tower with a direct fiber connection and a microwave connection are ping times. I remember reading here about 20ms ping times if im not mistaken. Microwave is also more reliable and it meets current and future demands. In my opinion, if a site gets microwave backhaul then great! If it gets fiber backhaul then even better!.

si lo usaran para clientes de boost mobile y virgin mobile la freqcuencia 800mhz la usa actualmente nextel pero en junio del 2013 tdo cliente de nextel tienen que migrar a sprint por q sprint va usar esa frecuencia aunque creo q aqui en puerto rico tienen un problema con la FCC encuanto a esa frecuencia pero veremos que pasa

they're not deploying new WiMax, keyword is consolidation, the NV strategy was that the three frequencies that Sprint operates from separate sites (2.5 Ghz WiMax sites were separate from the 1900 Mhz CDMA sites, and those in turn separate from the 800 Mhz sites) would be running on a single site if necessary

The reason why I think Culebra,Vieques and St. Thomas will have fiber is because they are too far from the island and the backhaul from the island does not reach that far so the only thing left is to connect it directly with fiber.

What I don’t understand about sprint’s strategy is why they upgraded mostly rural areas first? Ok so you go to Hatillo and Arecibo etc… get LTE, Great for them but why do that if they want to compete with all other carriers when in the metro area lives most of the island population?

They are upgrading the entire network, not just cities. So they upgrade each site the moment it is ready. It is typically faster to have a rural site ready to upgrade than an urban site. Backhaul install is usually much faster at rural sites, as well as planning, zoning and permitting.

 

Frankly, I get tired of all you city folks who get all pissed off because for one time in human history, the rural areas got something first. Part of me wants to laugh and point at you. I get tired of the, "Doesn't Sprint know how important I think I am? I should get LTE first!"

 

As has been stated many times in this thread, I am very grateful that Sprint has put PR at the top of the deployment schedule. PR will likely be the first market totally complete. And San Juan will likely have complete coverage before most stateside cities. Sprint is treating you guys very well, all things considered.
