Report Your LTE Connection Here

Recommended Posts

I do remember having some issues with Wimax on the OG evo connecting with low signal strength. It seemed liked after having Wimax in my area for awhile, they changed the threshold that would allow Wimax to connect and stay connected.

I had the exact same experience tonite, with my wife's Gnex side by side with my Evo. Gnex connected, no prob. Had to toggle the mode on EVO, even though it was set to CDMA/LTE.

Haha. So I've seen one (EDIT: Two!) (EDIT: Four!) LTE site in operation... they are funny ones though.

I can access the sites on the 15th floor of my office building, anywhere else in Houston I don't get any LTE service. It seems like Sprint has the tower antennas angled to not cover the ground... maybe part of testing?

It's pretty fast though :)

Actually, it is quite possible that they have little to no downtilt on them to make as large of a coverage area as possible. Especially with the initial launch sites. This is not far fetched. Clearwire did that with WiMax Protection Sites. Even though it expands the coverage area on a map, it really reduces signal quality, unless you can get above the ground clutter (like you did).

Also, this is probably exacerbated by Sprint LTE devices need to have their signal thresholds adjusted. It appears that if you have a mid range or weaker LTE signal, the device will not connect to LTE or drop you down to 3G quickly. Sprint needs to have these adjusted. A weak LTE signal is better than a strong 3G signal almost every time.

Interesting... I'd say Sprint has some work to do on that tower. It's surprising that they are having so many problems. I can't help but think it has something to do with the decision to block access.

I use Netmonitor and Open Signal Maps. Both can be downloaded on Google Play,(market).

Got 4G this morning and then went away in Atlanta.

I did not want to double post, but I posted in the Atlanta LTE my screen shots. Realized I should have posted them here. Sorry.

I had the same thing happen tonight on the tower closest to me. In the past, I've got 10 to 15 mb on the same site. Tonight .7 to 1.4.

It has had LTE for awhile, but it still hasn't made the completed towers list that Robert has in the sponsor section. I'm guessing Sprint hasn't accepted the tower as complete. Probably still some work to be done.

-1 on both apps:

-1 on Open Signal Maps because its "tower" locations are so inaccurate.

-1 on Netmonitor for its possible risk to privacy.

Is someone keeping score? What is this + or - 1 business? This is S4GRU, not G+

Agreed. While "+1" greatly predates Google+, those kinds of posts can propagate like weeds and really clutter forums. I recall a particularly annoying poster in another forum; this member's post count was high but padded with a significant minority, if not majority of nothing more than "+1" posts.

"+1" can be fine if you have something additional and substantive to bolster the discussion. Otherwise, a good rule of thumb is: do not post.

Glad I am not the only who thinks +1 post are dumb. I just picture a kidnergartnen kid pressing + then 1 on the keyboard...clapping his hands...saying yay I did it.

I almost posted +1's just to be an ass. But I didn't want to undermine the point. Because they annoy me too.

Ahh, heck...

Wow... I was driving through a not-heavily populated area in Houston and picked up a random 4G LTE connection... I had full strength and decided to run a speed test while the tower was within range...

I'd say 21Mbit down is pretty impressive... too bad getting a signal is so hard :)

went to both sites just east of Wichita, KS Here is what i got....

Screenshot_2012-07-22-20-05-10.png

(these are from tower WT03XC021 ) and the signal, while driving stayed for 3.6 miles west

Site WT03XC009 was spitting out LTE as well, averaging 18-20mbps down, and 10-12 mbps up ->sorry, no screen shot of those :( Phone stayed connected to this tower for 3.6 miles as well.

(ALL DONE WITH EVO LTE)

Using the LTE RECORD, looks like i connected to 4 different towers spitting LTE

Each different BSID indicates a different sector. And most sites have three sectors. So, did you interact with four different sectors or fully four different sites?

LOL, CHECKED MY DATA USAGE , ALMOST 500MB of just doing some speed tests

Yep, your record looks like it includes eight different sectors from four different sites:

6545/6546/6547

6737/6738/6739

7219

7730

The sequential records are likely sectors in clockwise N/SE/SW order.

Was in San Antonio last night and was able to connect to LTE on the way home to Austin. Connected to about 3 towers along 35 until I reached San Marcos; my signal dropped down to average-speed 3G at that point. Very promising results (although at 10 PM, I'm guessing there aren't too many people on the network); I got 30 Mbps at one point. The other times (when I was close to the tower), I got 24 Mbps, and when I had 2 bars, I got 8 Mbps. Not bad at all.

In Fort Worth/Benbrook at the intersection of I-20 and Winscott, get a strong LTE signal from inside my car. Ran "Coverage Map" test and got 24Mbps down and 9.2 Mbps up. Unfortuantely, this is 2 miles from my house and there the 4G signal is gone :(

At Bryant Irvin and I-30, get 5.2Mbps down and 3.5Mbps up from inside an office building .

    • February is always closer than you think! https://stadiumtechreport.com/news/caesars-superdome-gets-matsing-deployment-ahead-of-super-bowl-lix/ Another Super Bowl, another MatSing cellular antenna deployment. Caesars Superdome, home of the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, has deployed a large number of cellular antennas from MatSing as part of an effort to increase wireless network capacity ahead of the upcoming Super Bowl LIX in February, 2025. It is the third such deployment of MatSing equipment at Super Bowl venues in as many years, following cellular upgrades at Allegiant Stadium for Super Bowl LVIII and at State Farm Stadium for Super Bowl LVII. According to the Saints, the MatSing antennas were part of a large wireless overhaul this offseason, done primarily “to satisfy fans’ desires for wireless consumption and bandwidth,” an important thing with Super Bowl LIX coming to the venue on Feb. 9, 2025. Each year, the NFL’s big game regularly sets records for wireless data consumption, with a steady upward progression ever since wireless networks were first put into stadiums. https://www.neworleanssaints.com/news/caesars-superdome-transformation-2024-new-orleans-saints-nfl-season-part-1-wifi-upgrades-wireless-cellular During the offseason renovation project, the foundation of the facility's new Distributed Antenna System (DAS) was the installation of 16 multi-beam, wideband spherical lense antennas that are seven feet in diameter and weigh nearly 600 pounds apiece, a model called the MatSing MS-48H180. Another 16 large antenna spheres of varying sizes and frequencies have also been installed for a total of 32 new large antennas, in addition to 200 cellular antennas inside and around the building, all of these products specifically made for high-density environments such as stadiums and arenas. The DAS system's performance is expected to enhance further as it becomes fully integrated throughout the season. The MatSing MS-48H180 devices, with a black color that matches the Caesars Superdome's roof, each were individually raised by hoist machines to the top of the facility and bolted into place. Each cellular antenna then transmits 48 different beams and signals to a specific area in the stadium, with each sphere angled differently to specifically target different coverage areas, allowing increased, consistent coverage for high-density seating areas. In addition to creating targets in seating and common areas throughout the stadium, these antennas create dedicated floor zones that result in improved coverage to the field areas for fans in 12 field-level suites and the Mercedes-Benz End Zone Club, teams and on-field media and broadcast elements. The project is also adding 2,500 new wireless access points placed in areas such as concourses, atriums, suites and food and beverage areas for better WiFi coverage.
