  1. Yes, FCC OET. Trust that, after 5+ years, S4GRU staff knows what it is doing. Apple device authorizations pop up in the FCC OET within hours of their announcement events. AJ

  3. This isn't really iPhone specific, but the iPhone announcement did make me think of it. Do these devices that use facial recognition, do you also need a PIN to access the device? If not, I would never, ever use this technology. The only thing stopping a police officer from an illegal search is... well, nothing. They hold the phone up to your face and the phone unlocks itself. - Trip

  4. Nothing else expected from Apple. They make a decent phone... but I will not fall victim to their financial eco system. I refuse to have to turn everything I own into an apple product.

  5. Yeah, Sprint has UPS back ups on approx 2/3 of their sites and about 1/3 generator backup. But with very localized wind damages, it may not be power related. Wind can damage one carrier on a site and not another. There were probably many pockets where Sprint was the only one working too. I'm sure it's a mixed bag. It is definitely good to have multiple providers. I've never regretted it. But it would be good if Sprint increased its percentage of generator backed sites in storm prone areas.

  6. Correct, but that "other than" part is likely a huge wrinkle in the standard LTEiRA agreement. The typical incentives Verizon would offer to the rural operator be it: helping build out an LTE network, reciprocal roaming, device access/buying leverage, etc. are moot. And that may be the root of the issue here. Verizon's cost is more than likely higher than a typical LTEiRA partnership. What Verizon is paying to Wireless Partners, be it data charges or whatever doesn't make financial sense for them given the limited customer base. I just wanted to make it clear that this situation appears by everything I've found to be significantly different than Verizon kicking off perma-roamers that reside in territories covered by LTEiRA partners that are actively selling/providing local native service to customers.

  7. This is absolutely false. The latest iPhone always started at $649 MSRP. This is the first year in which the iPhone started at $699 (while they did bump the storage memory, everyone and their Mamas know memory is cheap)

  9. The specs for these devices were finalized probably between 18-24 months ago. Sprint publicly unveiled HPUE in Mid-December 2016 and it was certified very shortly thereafter. When you factor in the component sourcing timeline for the production volumes that Apple needs along with the cost margins it wants to have and the device testing regimen it wants, it makes sense why HPUE isn't supported this cycle. By the time of the public unveiling in December 2016, the Specs for the iPhone 8/X were already set in stone and nothing was going to change them. Even if Sprint was asking for HPUE behind the scenes we'll before the unveiling, it must have not been done with enough time for Apple to agree to it for this release cycle. The same explanation could be why it doesn't support 600 MHz for T-Mobile either. It's just Apple being Apple.

  10. Sprint and T-Mobile are both having issues at my home and around town. It's definitely a tower by tower issue. My lights were out also 2 days also. AT&T performed really well. We survived off my AT&T iPhone and iPad. My AT&T fiber home internet is down though. My wife is pissed about her Sprint service because of the storm and wants to switch lol. I'm like it could have happened to any carrier.

  11. At&t at least my situation worked very well. I only ran into one tower down for them. I ran into six Sprint towers down. Two tmobile and I dont have Verizon to know. My home Sprint tower came online the minute electric was restored to the area.

  12. Thats certainly one innovative way to move the goal posts. Nope, and thats why I said otherwise. Removing the subsidy was just a price hike for the consumer.

  13. Exactly. It worked like it was supposed to. The device had been sitting for too long without being unlocked or it had been rebooted prior to the demo. In such cases, the passcode is required for Face ID. Given that, Apple didn't have the device properly prepared for the demo run of show to work with the demo. Fault of the Apple event staff. No way for the presenter to know this ahead of time.

  14. FaceID didn’t fail on the demo Samsung has been increasing its prices prior to Apple. Note both brands still at under $700

  15. Apple has been raising pries for the last couple of years, did you believe otherwise? Also bumped up AppleCare for the iPhone X to $199. Kind of laughing at the flub on the live stream where face ID didn't work right.

  16. Because nothing says "bad for America" like locally-owned small businesses that can respond to local customer needs, right? I don't understand why you desperately want gigantic companies who run roughshod over consumers to grow ever larger and more able to run roughshod over consumers. While complaining that they run roughshod over consumers, no less. - Trip

  19. Based on their statement I don't think so although that ultimately may end up being the case if their agreement is materially altered (which by most accounts it appears it is going to be).

  22. When I go to the source and read their Facebook posts, I can see how all of this could be a misunderstanding. Although it may very well be true that Verizon is pulling out of Washington County, Maine, I can also read all of the official correspondence only to refer to abusers being thrown off and the Machias Valley News confusing what it means. From reading details, Verizon confirmed to the local news that they are sending notices to 30k-40k customers nationwide. Not necessarily to 30k-40k customers in Washington County. Some VZW customers claim not to receive notices. The local company that built out the network says they know nothing about it and only commented on what the local news was reporting. This all could be a big misunderstanding. If it turns out Verizon is not actually shutting down the network there, then this makes this whole thing even more interesting. Robert

  23. Thanks for the feedback. Regardless, it's nice to see things improving. Up until recently, there was no 3rd carrier. It just started showing up recently. Am glad for improvements happening.

  25. My Magic Box finally connected today in Hickory, NC (Charlotte Market), however it would not connect just 6 miles away in Conover, NC as of Sunday. Unfortunately, it does not extend the B41 signal far enough into the building for it to reach my work area. Additionally, without the MB, where I used to receive a -94dBm B41 signal, I am now at -117dBm, I believe one of the sectors is offline or has been adjusted and no longer reaches the front of our building. I believe that I am now connecting to a site that is further away and more congested. Interestingly enough, it operates without GPS lock.

  27. I'm really struggling with Tapatalk. Spent several hours reading through boards. A lot of IP Board users complaining about Tapatalk support issues and working with the new software. Not sure we are going to get this part solved soon. Maybe we can tweak the new mobile site to work better and leave Tapatalk behind once and for all? I will be back at it tomorrow. Thanks for your patience. Robert

  30. The one thing I'll say immediately that I like, which may be purely due to the upgrade and new functionality therein, or may have been neutered in the original configuration - but count me as definitely a fan of keeping the multi-faceted reaction-based 'like' options akin to what you see now on Facebook rather than the like-or-nothing approach. Options are nice.

  32. I was told that decoupling phones from service by ending 2-year contracts would push the market to lower phone prices. And here we are with a "starting at $999" phone.
