- Oh yes it very much is. All current mid high band 5GTF and NR 5G deployments use M-MIMO antennas.

Found a new Verizon site in Seattle that uses JMA antennas. This is the first non-Amphenol site I've seen Verizon build here in at least a year and a half.

Pretty much all other Verizon sites utilize 2x6-port antennas or a single 8 port antenna manufactured by Amphenol. Info on those here:

I wonder if Verizon will be primarily switching over to JMA here or if this site is a one-off. The currently deployed Amphenol antennas have pretty exceptional lowband range; I'd be surprised if JMA has built antennas that can top them.

Posting this here as I assume it's Verizon..... In the pic the round cylinder out the top back have been installed on light poles in our area for a couple of years now. Recently the triangle of panels started showing up on the same poles that had the cylinder ones. Anyone know what the triangle ones are?

The top radios and the can antenna look just like what AT&T is deploying here for their small cells.

No.

That's just one of the standard ERICSON airs with passive antenna ports available. Same deal type of equipment tmobile uses.

Vzw and ATT use Ericsson airs in some region and not in others. It really depends.

Thanks, Its different than what they normally use here, but it didn't look new either so I wasn't sure.

Yeah it really, really depends on the regional RF team.

 

Up in the west coast, ATT and VZW prefers all RRUS + Passive antenna builds. In other regions they'll toss in some Ericsson AIR or even other vendor antenna integrated w/ radio units.

I believe I found some Verizon C-Band gear this week. I'm surprised by how fast they are deploying these here unless they aren't as affected by electronic equipment shortages as others are. I thought they'd focus on markets were C Band is already live. Louisville isn't one of the early clearing markets, I'm pretty sure they can't turn it on here until late 2023 unless I missed something. This particular site was actually just a bit south of Louisville, next to a Pilot station off I-65. There's another site about a mile south of this one that also has C Band equipment already. Both looked to have been complete rip and replace of the existing equipment as well. Also I'm not quite sure what the smaller unit is under the Ericsson 6449, unless that's for CBRS. (Pictures are from my S22 Ultra, I'm very impressed with the camera.)

Likely due to agreements VZW is making with satellite businesses to move them a long quicker.  I was just reading an article that SES entered into an agreement with VZW to install filters at 500 sites before the end of 2022.  VZW will pay them up to a cool $170M for their efforts.

As a byproduct of this work, I wonder if some of AT&Ts spectrum will also get cleared earlier.

      Kind of amazing that T-Mobile is still holding onto that speed title despite Verizon all but killing off lowband 5G on their network. While Verizon is mostly being evaluated on mmWave and C-band performance, T-Mobile and AT&T's average 5G speeds include their massive lowband 5G networks that are significantly slower.

      Yup. Very true. We were originally on an Everything Data 1500 Plan, which got Unlimited Minutes thanks to Marcelo's "Loyalty Benefits" offer. We then switched to Unlimited Freedom (with the Free HD add-on that Sprint originally wanted $20/month per line for.... remember that?) because the pricing was better with "iPhone for Life", vs. the "Loyalty Credit" for staying on a Legacy Plan. After that, I ran the numbers and switched us over to Sprint MAX, especially for the international travel benefits. There's absolutely no reason for us to switch to Go5G Plus or Go5G Next if we're going to do BYOD by purchasing from Apple/Samsung/Google directly as we've been doing. These new plans aren't priced for current customers to switch to. They're priced for new customers, where they throw in a free line, etc. It's gone from "Uncarrier" to "Carrier". What a shame.

      Strange business model that they keep around all these pricing plans. 1000s of plans per carrier is reportedly not uncommon.  Training customer support must be a nightmare. Even MVNOs have legacy plans. A downside of their contract mentality I guess. Best to change contracts during a recession. But then all carriers try to squeeze out legacy plan benefits as they grow old.

      Everything "Uncarrier" is becoming "Carrier" again. Because of the Credit Limit that T-Mobile put on our account for no reason at all (and wouldn't change/update the last time I checked all the way up to the CEO), I don't plan on buying/upgrading our iPhones through T-Mobile. I'm going through Apple directly. Looks like I'll be going through Google and Samsung directly for our other lines for upgrades. Also, we're staying on Sprint Max given the ridiculous pricing for Go5G Plus. On Sprint Max, we currently pay for our Plan: $260 for 7 Voice Lines $25 for two Wearable Lines. (One is $10/Month. The other is $15/Month because the AutoPay discount only applies up to 8 lines.) Total: $285/Month vs. Go5G Plus (Per the Broadband Facts "nutrition label" on the T-Mobile Website): https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce/cell-phone-plans $360 - ($5 AutoPay Discount x 7 Voice Lines) = $325 The Watch Plans show as either $12/Month or $15/Month: https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/affordable-data-plans/smartwatches So this is about the same for the wearables as what we're paying now. Overall, it's quite more than we're paying now to switch plans. Ridiculous....
