So i have a G2 thats on it's last leg.  I haven't used an upgrade in probably 3-4 years because im on a SERO plan and because i just don't want to be tied to a contract.  Now i've been looking for a used G3 for under $200 to buy but considering actually just using my upgrade to get a G4.  How future proof will the G4 be? my G2 has a hard time with signal sometimes and i know the G4 won't be perfect but it should be better.  The G4 also will be able to roam on band 12 LTE onces that finished, correct? That and CA would be pretty much the only reason i would upgrade over a G3 right now.  Just want to make sure i'm not kicking myself in 8-12 months.  Love my G2 just not sure how much longer it's going to last.  I'd like to hold out and see what the new Nexus offers but the G4 is tempting. Suggestions?

No phone is really "future proof".

 

Also, every year you don't upgrade you waste your subsidy which is worth about $20/month - so you've given up ~$1000 in subsidies.  Figure you could have purchased two iPhones and flipped them for double what you paid for them and cashed in that implicit subsidy - that's what I do.  I always upgrade the second I am able to for the most profit so i can put it towards handsets I actually want.

 

Any time you want to cancel, take your subsidized device and sell it, trade it in, etc.  Promos for switching carriers are so good nowadays that you are really just losing out on incentives.

 

You should evaluate the cost of your cellular plan/device based on total cost of ownership - similar to a car.

 

The LG G4 is a fantastic phone, I like it a lot more than the GS6 but I'll say that if I were in your shoes, I'd just get the next Nexus.

Has anyone noticed the G3 and G4 batteries are the same size, have same prong placement, and the only difference is the G4 is 11.6Wh and the G3 is 11.4Wh. Both are 3000mAh, both are 3.8v. Actually the G4 is 3.85v and he is 3.8v, not enough difference to really be negligible to the operation of the phone if you put a G3 b battery in the G4. My wife and I both got the G4, and both got the battery and leather back promo, plus I had the G3, so between me and her, with our g4 batteries coming in yesterday, we have 5 batteries and 3 charging cradles...

What bands in the G4 will be the more popular? Who is band 12 and where? And the other bands, which of them might I see in rural central Alabama or in nearby areas?

On the battery issue... I did find ONE difference in the G3 and G4 battery. ONE...

 

But, it makes all the difference in the world...as the G3 battery won't power the G4...they moved ONE prong on the the battery terminals...see photo:(please ignore my thumb..I burned myself the other day..should've cropped but I'm a lazy bum)

They brought back the memory card? For all of July it was just the battery and the cover.

You apply online directly to LG. It's pretty easy. Just have to take a picture of your receipt and MEID on the box.

I filled mine out a week and a half ago when I picked up the phone. Even though they say it takes 4 to 6 weeks its already in the shipping stage, got the email conformation this morning. My friend got his in about 2 weeks as well.

I get bored with a phone after a few months, and I've done a ton of research on the G4, and it seems like it would work for me. I also want to see how a new Android will handle the Sprint network with reception and band switching, because the iPhone is absolutely terrible in those departments. Plus, I miss Signal Check Pro. if you want to go flagship android phone on sprint it really is about the only option right now. all the samsung phones are suffering from lackluster RF and the One M9 is just a cluster right now. you could go with the Nexus 6 but you would miss out on CA then. So that leaves the G4 of the Flex 2. The flex 2 is night and day better than it was when it first released but i would pick the G4 over the flex 2 if i had the choice between the 2.

I saw an ad on TV that LG is including a 24" TV with the purchase of a G4. Best Buy was mentioned in the ad, not sure of it is exclusive to them

The ridiculously large direction things are headed, that "included" TV is the same device.  It is a 24 in screen that also doubles as a phone.

Thanks to Samsung borking my S5 and the S6 copying the worst "features" of the iPhone I have officially joined the ranks of the G4 users. So far I'm liking it, but it will take a little getting used to. I do really wish they had kept the screen at 5" 1080p and just let a separate model fill the role of 1440p phablet. Built in wireless charging would have been nice as well, I'm not willing to sacrifice the removable battery and memory card slot to get it though.

I've also joined the G4 club a few days ago. I've got it setup in a way where I don't miss iOS too much. Lollipop is actually kind of nice, but my battery life is horrible. Way worse than a regular iPhone 6. I'm averaging 6-8 hours off charger with 2-3 hours screen time. Is that normal? Any suggestions.

 

P.S. carrier aggregation is fantastic, and Android phones handle the Sprint network way better than an iPhone.

Way worse than a regular iPhone 6. I'm averaging 6-8 hours off charger with 2-3 hours screen time. Is that normal? Any suggestions.

That does not sound like normal battery life. Was yours new off the self? I typically go 30hrs between charges, at least. Sometimes up to 48hrs. 2-3hrs screen time.

Brand new. I have to turn off battery percentage because it's disgusting how fast it drains. Like 1% per 30 seconds-1 minute

Have you checked to make sure there aren't any odd processes running that are draining battery? Any oddball apps you've installed? I don't see a reason for the battery to be draining that quickly.

I just installed that battery app. I'll need a refresher on Android before I start killing processes, because I'm not sure which are bad.
