I believe it is supposed to replace the option where you can turn LTE off under the cellular section. I'm downloading the update now and will see what I can find.

From what I have read at iphonehacks.com, it appears this is a GSM thing only. No for CDMA operators.

Because their CDMA (1xRTT) is only a software downgrade from 3G (EvDO). Not an actual tech downgrade like GSM.

Meh... Hoping it is just bad luck, but it sure seems like the update is causing my phone to have a longer scan time for LTE. Taking up to 5-10 minutes sometimes by a known LTE site to get LTE.

 

Hoping it is just some sort of network issues around here...but I don't know. Maybe some data activity is going on in the background more often with the new update that is causing it to stay on 3G with an active data connection? I hope...

Still seeing some strange performance glitches like Control Center and Spotlight, but beyond that, nothing is broken or not working correctly.

 

LTE scan times seems identical to before. Nothing seems to have changed with regards to the baseband.

That gives me some hope. I'm going to look through my Apps and see if any of my new ones have background app refresh turned on. I try to keep most of them off, but maybe I missed one and it is constantly using data in the background.

I placed my order through Apple for a 6+ 64 gig with a delivery time of 18-25 November. I hope for it sooner but 3-4 weeks seems like what the average wait it going to be.

Scan times are awful now. I have to toggle airplane mode to catch a LTE signal, otherwise I'm camping on 3G.

In the first hour or so, I was having the same issue then after shutting the phone down and restarting, the issue went away for me.

I am having another issue since upgrading to 8.1 - None of my email addresses are pushing updates to them.  This is a real no-no for work related issues since I am a web developer.  I need to know if something goes haywire at all times of the day.

 

I really hope they get this worked out for 8.1.1 asap.  I've tried everything...  Resetting the accounts and nothing.  It only updates if I open the Mail app.

 

Edit:  And out of nowhere - it is working just fine now.

Doubtful.  If our email system (University of Wisconsin) goes down, or really has any issues at all, then all hell breaks loose on campus.  I definitely would've heard about that.  Also, as soon as I opened my Mail app the messages came flooding in.  My personal email account was doing the same thing too.  Definitely something strange was happening though.

 

I tinkered with it a little bit more this morning by switching Push on and off like 10 times...  maybe it finally took hold.

Interesting...since you mentioned that I went into my settings and checked that my phone has conveniently set 2 of my email accounts to push instead of fetch every 15 minutes....Thanks for that Apple. I have it set to fetch because it's better on battery life (I think?) lol

I have been having the same problem but I had it before 8.1 also.  I frequently receive emails from the night before when I check my phone during breakfast.  I didn't have to open the mail app for the messages to appear though.
