Motorola X Users Thread!

Its not as fancy as it sounds... essentially its just a dual core S4 pro with adreno 320 (2 cores for the CPU and 4 cores for the GPU)

That accounts for 6 of the 8 cores they are talking about... the other 2 are low power chips used for very specific tasks ( one for the always on mic and one for monitoring orientation/movement)

...at least that is what I gleaned from the article

How would you guys feel if customization was an AT&T exclusive? I sure hope it's not!

Also, if I wanted a customized phone (not just a black or white model), I'd have to order it directly through Motorola. I'll probably just get a black one, meaning I could order through Sprint.

August 23rd is the big day!  :twitch:

Wow only $199 off-contract? This phone with T-Mobile's Simple Choice plan would be such a bargain!

I wouldn't bank on that.  Even if it is suppose to be a mid range device, I expect it to be in the $300-400 full retail since its going to have a big screen and still decent specs.

Since it's using an older processor I would hope it'll have svdo/svlte, yes no?

It does for SVLTE but not SVDO according to the FCC docs but its not because its an older processor though.

Okay so Leo Laporte got me super excited for this phone today. He has seen and used the Moto X and even though he signed a NDA he gave some very obvious hints. He said some of the leaked specs are wrong and there are A LOT of features that haven't been leaked. Somebody called in about getting a phone today on the Tech Guy Show and he said I cant say why but wait until August 1st like 10 times. Then he bad mouthed Samsung and HTC its got me wondering.

Where can we see FCC doc?

Here is the FCC link.  This is the Moto phone that is rumored to be the Sprint version of the Moto X phone.  If you look at the RF Exposure Test Report on pg. 3, it tells you the functionality it supports and it clearly states only LTE Band 25 (1900 MHz) support.

And, FYI, some of these redundant Motorola X threads are going to be merged or closed.

Holy crap the phone is a fail.

What a waste of time

Tell me how you really feel :P

The only thing I'm disappointed in is the price. $199 + 2yr. So ~$550.

Only thing? Thats sort of important though?

You can get better phones for cheaper. With removable batteries, wireless charging and expandable memory. Higher res screens, and faster processors. For cheaper.

This phone offers absolutly nothing.

Is it even tri-band at Sprint? Im going to guess not.

Well that's exactly what I'm saying. This is a $300-ish phone, not a $550 phone. Perhaps we're seeing the "made in America" price, as opposed to cheap overseas labor?

Has anyone definitively made the connection that this is the same Motorola handset we saw in the FCC OET several weeks ago? No tri band, I suspect so.

This, coupled with the new Sprint press release today makes no mention of triband, I think it's definitely safe to assume that the new MotoX may be the last Sprint smartphone of significance to be single LTE band. Not an honorable distinction. What bad timing for Motorola on the Now network.

Given that certain features are exclusive to AT&T, I think that Motorola is just happy to be on something other than Verizon! I don't think that they care too much for Sprint or TMo.

    • Kind of amazing that T-Mobile is still holding onto that speed title despite Verizon all but killing off lowband 5G on their network. While Verizon is mostly being evaluated on mmWave and C-band performance, T-Mobile and AT&T's average 5G speeds include their massive lowband 5G networks that are significantly slower.
    • 5G in the U.S. – Additional Mid-band Spectrum Driving Performance Gains T-Mobile holds on to it's lead in 5G Speed
    • Yup. Very true. We were originally on an Everything Data 1500 Plan, which got Unlimited Minutes thanks to Marcelo's "Loyalty Benefits" offer. We then switched to Unlimited Freedom (with the Free HD add-on that Sprint originally wanted $20/month per line for.... remember that?) because the pricing was better with "iPhone for Life", vs. the "Loyalty Credit" for staying on a Legacy Plan. After that, I ran the numbers and switched us over to Sprint MAX, especially for the international travel benefits. There's absolutely no reason for us to switch to Go5G Plus or Go5G Next if we're going to do BYOD by purchasing from Apple/Samsung/Google directly as we've been doing. These new plans aren't priced for current customers to switch to. They're priced for new customers, where they throw in a free line, etc. It's gone from "Uncarrier" to "Carrier". What a shame.
    • Strange business model that they keep around all these pricing plans. 1000s of plans per carrier is reportedly not uncommon.  Training customer support must be a nightmare. Even MVNOs have legacy plans. A downside of their contract mentality I guess. Best to change contracts during a recession. But then all carriers try to squeeze out legacy plan benefits as they grow old.
    • Everything "Uncarrier" is becoming "Carrier" again. Because of the Credit Limit that T-Mobile put on our account for no reason at all (and wouldn't change/update the last time I checked all the way up to the CEO), I don't plan on buying/upgrading our iPhones through T-Mobile. I'm going through Apple directly. Looks like I'll be going through Google and Samsung directly for our other lines for upgrades. Also, we're staying on Sprint Max given the ridiculous pricing for Go5G Plus. On Sprint Max, we currently pay for our Plan: $260 for 7 Voice Lines $25 for two Wearable Lines. (One is $10/Month. The other is $15/Month because the AutoPay discount only applies up to 8 lines.) Total: $285/Month vs. Go5G Plus (Per the Broadband Facts "nutrition label" on the T-Mobile Website): https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce/cell-phone-plans $360 - ($5 AutoPay Discount x 7 Voice Lines) = $325 The Watch Plans show as either $12/Month or $15/Month: https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/affordable-data-plans/smartwatches So this is about the same for the wearables as what we're paying now. Overall, it's quite more than we're paying now to switch plans. Ridiculous....
