Network Vision/LTE - San Diego Market

Here's some pictures from the tower near my house. I don't think they did any work yet, judging by these. The permit(s) should be approved by now though.

Looks like they haven't started.  Hopefully you will see progress this month.  Can you get inside the building? This site most likely have the cabinet on the roof.

The building is an AT&T building, so probably not. I'll drive by occasionally though.

Anyone getting LTE in Clairemont off of Jutland Dr and Clairemont Mesa?  This is a New 4G LTE accepted site.  Can someone map on Sensorly?

This new site should cover most of North West Clairemont Area.

Oh wow, that's big. I'm in that area every now and then, I'll be sure to map when I can.

Question: since the tower by my house is on an AT&T building, does that mean that it might get approval for both LTE and 3G at the same time? Or at least less time in between?

No way to know either way. The location doesn't really matter much, even if it is on an AT&T building.

That's what I figured. It'd be nice if it went faster though.  B)

I mapped Quail Gardens heading north on Sensorly after I took pics. Did a speed test a couple of blocks away from the site and got this! When I got back on Leucadia to get back on the 5, I was getting download speeds in the 25 and 26 range. After that 3G appeared as soon as I got to the freeway ramp.

Picked up some LTE in my neck of the woods in Oceanside not long ago. Mapped up N. River Rd to Vandergrift until LTE switched back to 3G. Made a u-turn at Douglas Dr/Vandergrift intersection, picked up LTE again in between, and mapped up inner parts of the area where SignalCheck Pro shows me where I'm getting my best signals in the neighborhood I live in, which is Vinyard St where my best signal comes from most of the time. Mapped those nearby areas. Headed home (Pebble Beach Dr) which was a couple of blocks away, held LTE when I got home, then switched back to 3G when I pulled into my driveway. Damn! But hey, it's here!

Back to the terrible 3G network inside the house where I use WiFi, compared to standing outside the house such as standing in the driveway, front yard, or street. I won't lie, but inside the house slightly improved comapred to these past few months to a yr!

Oh yea its coming.  By years end I predict 4G over 65% done, 3G 90% done.  I think it just started picking up again this month!

Folks in Oak Park will soon see LTE.  This site NV has begun and fiber is in placed.  Sprint vendor should be working on it this week so go out and take some pics.  Maybe talk to them.   :tu:

This site is located on the fire station roof top on 54th and College Grove Dr.

  • 3 weeks later...

Lost couple sites in South Bay, seems like getting ready for more completed 4G sites because 3G has been completed.  Was at the base of the site, no signal directly from site but from neighboring sites.

3G was really bad around the UTC area today. Is Sprint working on towers there?

We can only hope so. It's hard for me to gauge the speeds there since I'm normally on Wi-Fi. But when I walk my dogs around Nobel/Doyle, I flip back and forth between 3G and LTE. Often, it just kinda sputters and doesn't do anything.

What part of South Bay? But Sprint really needs to step it up 3G speeds are terrible 2/3 of the time getting anywhere from 100 to 500 kbps while getting a solid 4G signal is like trying to catch bigfoot on video. If this doesn't improve soon Im going to try to get out of the remaining months of my contract and go to Verizon

The problem is San Diego is only at 50% 3G completed with 25% 4G broadcasting.  Even 50% 3G completed it is not necessary been migrated to fiber back haul.  Many of the 3G sites that is from a 4G site do see improved speeds of 1-2Mbps.  Until we see over 50% 4G sites live, we will see much more improved seems.  Hopefully by years end we will see over 75% completed 4G sites.

Verizon LTE speeds is very congested, I have seen 4G USB and Mifi on Verizon pulling 1-2Mbps peak hours.

I wonder if the indian casinos somehow spur up 4G LTE in someway, shape or form. I mean it doesn't make sense that isolated parts of rural eastern San Diego County is getting 4G LTE. The first screenshot was taken at Golden Acorn Casino near Boulevard & the second screenshot was taken at Barona Casino.Posted Image

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
