Is it sad that lte isn't in a city like Las Vegas yet?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It is in the city. On dozens of sites. More every month.

It's spotty; I live here (actually in Henderson); yes, you would think the entertainment

capital of the world but be first tier on the NV rollout..you would be wrong..third tier

and band 41 is no where in site here...but hey, there are other larger burgs that do not

have nearly as much LTE love as we do yet..say Denver and Phoenix altho Denver is

rapidly catching up with Spark and 800 Mhz..probably will pass LV soon; I'll say this

about LV 3G service: it's never been better!!

So 3G is good in Vegas? Like the strip as well?

When I look at coverage maps I don't see any lte marked for Las Vegas. Is it because they haven't made it official yet?

Are the speeds decent on the strip?

I was there when LTE was just starting. EVDO didn't work well at all regardless of signal. Luckily they had some 1x800 test sites fired up and I was able to use those for data as well when I forced over to 1x only. It was a network just for me and a couple techs ;)

The few places that I have frequented in the last 6 months on the strip have had excellent

3G coverage (mostly Caesars Palace complex & the Bellagio); inside & out; I've yet to connect to LTE

anywhere on the strip (limited samples..mind you)..speeds mostly sub 1 mbps down for data simply

due to numbers; here at the house my 3G downloads average 1.3 -1.5 Mb; two miles from my house I've

seen 20-27 mbps downloads routinely with 4G LTE; what Vegas needs badly is for all the Wimax towers

to be updated and then this place will rock with LTE love..

I just got back from a trip to Las Vegas attending CES. The show was great but the 3G service was terrible almost the entire time. Not just in the convention center but in the casino's as well.

Sprint must be hooked up to the DAS systems because I had excellent signal but the data service was useless. Phone calls connected just fine and texts were not a problem. My friend with Verizon service had LTE on his Galaxy S3 and it was working just fine even on LTE.

It would be pretty sweet if Sprint upgraded their DAS integration with LTE service at the Las Vegas Convention Center and the various casinos with LTE. Especially if they could get B41 LTE going on the DAS.

They have been working on the site located outside of the Convention Center for over a year. I am surprised that after all that, it's not upgraded. Hopefully soon.

Glad to finally see LTE sites gets accepted in Kingman and Havasu. 'Bout time!

Robert

Kingman and Havasu? Wow! I was starting to think ALU forgot them or something.

Slowly, but surely, Vegas suburbs are getting upgraded. Grocery shopping at Lake Mead & Buffalo area...3 bars LTE inside the store where it was 2 bar 3g just the week before.

Disappointed to read the reports of so-so coverage around the Convention Center. You'd think Sprint would pull out all the stops to have optimum service for a "captive" CES convention.

Not to much south of 215 yet other than a corridor of service south on eastern

for about three miles; most of GV and Anthem are still barren of LTE but

yes it seems to be getting better albeit slower than we would like

  • 1 month later...

Just posted to the in-progress thread:  - - - - - - - -is being updated as I write this; ground mounted

radio heads; fiber in place (explains why I get such good 3G speeds at my house) technician I talked to

thought they would be finished in three days and then Century Link has to make the fiber connections;

can't believe it yet!!!

Las Vegas is one of Clearwire's top markets with very high usage and a very large customer base.

Source for this assertion?  The two wimax towers near me have been

scarcely used for the last two years if my speed tests mean anything..

Go to the Clear.com website and try to activate a device in some zip codes and it will tell you that they can't activate it in that area. I checked zip codes in the north and east of town and even some parts of west have issues. This usually happens when they reach a critical mass on their network. You can still use devices activated in different areas but Clearwire tries to stop new customers to activate with them in heavy usage zones.

I am trying to make a map when I have a bit more time which towers are effected.

Thanx for that Mr Hog; the fact remains that Wimax is on its way out; I'll grant you that in certain

markets such as Las Vegas and maybe Salt Lake City its phaseout will take longer than the consensus

think right now but I wouldn't bet my firstborn on it; if Softbank-Sprint that Wimax is inhibiting the rollout of

Spark and subscriber growth it will be history sooner than later..

WiMax is available and so far so good and I stress myself with alternatives when Sprint announces the decommission of the network. It took years for Nextel and I will make sure to ride the WiMax waves until their sun sets.

I have tested a little bit the 4G in Las Vegas and I am not really impressed. The signal is very week and even their 3G signal is much stronger. I have been at a friends house today with sight to a tower and 3G works just fine but 4G is very week and I hope they fix it before the market goes live which could be soon.

Back to WiMax, there has been a big wave of new customers from MVNO's especially FreedomPOP and I have to admit, their service works just fine in town.

;

My company just provided me with a brand new Sprint router but there is no LTE yet at my place :-(

Good luck holding out considering the wimax network is not being converted (yet) as it is older clearwire equipment that must be completely ripped out and replaced. Alcatel-Lucent / Sprint is gearing up to deploy TDD-LTE B41 over Sprints own sites in the coming weeks / months and the equipment is pure TDD-LTE with no wimax capability.

Do you honestly think that Sprint is just shutting down WiMax in a major market over night. They gave Nextel customers a year to convert and I am not expecting anything less from Clearwire. Let Sprint deploy their B41 network, that does not mean I am losing service on an old Clearwire tower.

It does if they replace the equipment with TDD-LTE from Alcatel-Lucent. Then you will be SOL. Sorry to burst your hopes and dreams. I fully expect all Band 41 LTE deployments to be ALU equipment based on the delay to upgrade the Clearwire Las Vegas market.

At this point in time I don't think that the current Sprint NV updates include the current WiMax network here in Las Vegas. None of the towers have received any RUU upgrade.

Sprint will deploy B41 in Las Vegas later this year using Nokia equipment. Yes some locations are CoLo but I have seen all shared towers with seperate equipment cabinets. I took a drive around North Las Vegas yesterday (after Nascar) to visit some of the new 3G/4G/800 towers and you see most of them have Clearwire in addition. There is no need to scare people and when they deploy B41 in Las Vegas, I am sure they use the Nokia equipment in the currenltly unused spectrum.

No. You are incorrect. They are using alcatel-lucent equipment for TDD LTE. Nokia equipment is going to Ericsson markets.

The legacy clear network utilizes a huge amount of spectrum as each sector and each site uses different allocated spectrum. This is hugely inefficient compared to TDD LTE which uses a contiguous 20 MHz block. The legacy clear sites in effect blocks sprint from having that continuous spectrum. If sprint wants to deploy two to three TDD LTE carriers by years end then the clear network has to go by then. No Ifs or buts about that.

Again, I have seen how nice Sprint and Clear play together in markets like Los Angeles and there is no degradation in service for WiMax. Yes eventually WiMax is go, but I am not sure it will be before the end of 2015. Anyways, I worry about it when Sprint makes the anouncement rather to freak out on speculation.

Clearwire has a huge amount of spectrum in Las Vegas and I am sure they will find a solution.

Btw. has there been any B41 LTE deployment in Las Vegas at all? I was disappointed to see a lack of LTE during CES this year. WiMax worked as always at the fairplex very stable while AT&T and Verizon had some issued with their LTE networks.

Los Angeles TDD-LTE has legacy clear wimax Samsung equipment moved to dual mode Samsung TDD LTE / WI. Ax Rrus which streamlined the spectrum allocations.

Older clear markets such as Las Vegas has the earliest deployed equipment which is incompatible with TDD LTE. The only way to deploy TDD LTE in such markets is with the NV 2.0 8t8r deployment which is getting underway.

It will still take a lot of time and what I have seen currently is only the NV1.0 here in Las Vegas. Even when they start B41 it will take time to kill WiMax. Again, WiMax enjoys a lot of customer use and it would not be good PR for Sprint to take it all away soon. My prediction from all the networks that have gone offline: 8-12 months warning before they shut off the network and that will be AFTER Clearwire equipment stopped to be sold in all channels. Keep in mind, even Sprint still sells WiMax equipment (especially Boost & Virgin Mobile) and most of their MVNO's do too.
