Funding Short $250 in May 2016...S4GRU could go dark

S4GRU

Recommended Posts

We are currently $250 short from making our IP Board payment for May. It is due on 5/24. If we do not have the funds deposited in time, S4GRU will go offline until it's paid.

I have personally made up short falls at times in the past, but I am unable to this month. Some of you have personally stepped up and helped in the past too. Thank you for helping at those times.

I will take down this post once we cross the $250 needed threshold. If the site goes offline tomorrow, you'll know we didn't make it. I thank you in advance for your consideration.

Robert

Paypal donation Sent.    I encourage everybody to do whatever they can.   There is no other site that has the info and is well maintained as this site.

I don't think I would have stayed with sprint if it hadn't been for this site. A few dollars sent. Thanks James

S4GRU never has intended to be a Sprint advocacy site, only an education site -- focused mostly on Sprint, though we have branched out to other topics over the years.

Honestly, we do not care which wireless provider you choose, only that you make an informed decision.

However, many members have said that they stayed with Sprint purely because of the information they learned here.  Even if that numbers just 100 subs -- and the number probably is a lot greater -- that is a lot of revenue per year.  It would be nice if Sprint were surreptitiously to send S4GRU a little "thank you" donation.

Overland Park, are you listening?

;)

Are we close to the target yet

My understanding from Robert's posts is that the impending financial goal has been met.

Thank you, everyone.  Many donated.  I contributed, too.

So, S4GRU will not go dark.  Good!

But may I suggest at least a $5 monthly recurring contribution?  I do.  If enough of our members would do so at this level, we likely never would have a financial need again.

If you appreciate S4GRU, think of it as a burger, half a pizza, only once per month.  S4GRU remains member supported.  We stick around as long as you want us to stick around.

I would suggest their thank you donation could be of a certain non-monetary form that would also appreciated.

I'm gonna close the thread. Thanks all who rose up. You're still welcome to donate to help cover next month, of course!

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
