iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus User Thread

My phone has been acting funny after the beta 2 update. I know the most common is the gap between the top row of apps and the row of info at the top. That doesn't bother me as much because opening apps forces it to fix itself. Now I'm showing wifi and LTE both at the same time. I also have apps that randomly crash now and Bluetooth problems connecting to vehicles.

Twice a day? Holy cow.

How much background and location apps are you running?

Not many. I use "storm" for weather with its "follow me" location feature for alerts. This has used 1% of my battery in 3 days, so that's not a problem. I stream SiriusXM at work, and sometimes Apple Music/Spotify.

On a 6 Plus? I have a Note 4 now, but I thought my 6 Plus had excellent battery life.

Just a regular 6. I guess I should update my profile. When I had the plus, it was only marginally better than my 6.

Only marginally? Really? That's odd. My Plus and my fathers' Plus are leaps and bounds better than my Mom and Sisters' 6's when it comes to battery life.

Pretty sure I lost my Apple ID today. Downgraded to 8.4 to try jailbreak and see what hacks they had out nowadays and when I erased my phone to start over clean my phone stopped receiving the verification texts I'm supposed to get. After me being an idiot and trying to create my own verification texts I now locked myself our of my account. Woot! The failed sign in page says it'll be unlocked in 8 hours but from what I've read online it never unlocks and unless you have access to a trusted device and your password you're screwed. Since my phone no longer appears to be a trusted device I'm pretty much SOL.

If you have 2 step authorization on your phone make sure you know your recovery key! If you don't go reset it now!

My battery is just garbage most of the time. It's really the biggest, and maybe the only downside to owning an iPhone. I've just learned to deal with charging my phone twice a day.

That was my experience for the few days I was trying an iPhone. The battery life was a little worse than my year and a half old Nexus 5, I couldn't make it through the day without recharging it once. Screen on time might have been a little better, it was hard to tell since battery stats didn't show screen time but stand by was significantly worse. I also had poor LTE performance, it felt like I was back on my old EVO LTE. I wonder if that carrier bundle that broke LTE is contributing towards the poor battery performance by dropping LTE more often. I wouldn't mind an iPhone that was almost twice as thick, with a battery that is twice as large.

Here are my current battery stats. I guess it isn't too bad today, but something is causing my usage to always equal my standby, which doesn't seem right. I only have a weather app that occasionally pings my location, and is showing background activity, and 2% battery usage in 4 days. Nothing else is showing background activity. I'm jailbroken, so I wonder if I have a rogue tweak.

Just call Apple Support. If you can prove that you own the account they'll reset it for you themselves. This used to be a lot easier before the whole iCloud hacking thing. But since this is legitimately your account they'll probably reset it for you after some questioning.

Are you using some form of instant messenger?  My wife was having issues with both her iPad and iPhone quickly losing battery power and I found that she was using Facebook Messenger.  The battery on either device would be depleted in just a few hours.

Only way to prove your account is with your password, verification code or your recovery key. I don't have my recovery key and my verification doesn't work. I have an appt to have them look at my screen today and see if they'll give me a new phone. I'll just ask em about it when I'm up there. Appointment is in a little over an hour so fingers crossed I have good news.

Good news. The Apple store replaced my phone since it appeared that the bend wasn't intentional or done by dropping it. (Why would I purposefully bend my phone Apple?) Brand new iPhone without using an AppleCare replacement.

Bad news. The store wasn't able to help me with my iCloud at all. On the phone with senior tech support now. I somehow get texts to verify my iCloud sign in but not for the manage my Apple ID website. Doesn't even ask me for my recovery key which I don't have anyways. Ugh.

Edit. Advanced tech support tried to tell me there's nothing they could do. Explained what was going on again and it's supposedly something on Apple's end. They're escalating it up higher and I should hear back in a day or so with good news... Hopefully.

When I try to run iTunes with the carrier settings enabled it tells me "program" is not recognized as an internal command. What am I doing wrong?

I had the same problem. Navigate to c: / program files / on your computer, then I think it's shift or control + right click on the iTunes folder, "open command prompt here." Then, just type "iTunes.exe /setpref (whatever the code is). If it just returns a new command line without error messages, it worked.

Says it cannot find this path. I'm the worst with command prompt windows. lol.

For the Sprint WiFi Thing just disconnect and reconnect to WiFi that usually fixes it

Dropped my phone in water today. Fully submerged. Put it in a bag of brown rice and put in the sun for a half hour. Hopefully it'll be ok. I don't have the $79 to replace it right now.

Hi.

Please put quotes around your path to executable when there are spaces.

Also I just noticed- it might be a backslash. Someone try this and see if it works?

Public Beta 3 is out. Same build as dev beta 5. So far my 6 seems snappier then PB 2. I will give a more detailed update after having some time to play around. Sprint carrier is 20.6.17

I love the WiFi assist setting, especially when my phone connects to the xfinitywifi networks scattered along my area, as well as my company's wifi once I go in the elevator or stairs. (LTE gets through, but wifi doesn't.. Go figure!)

    • I've now seen how things work in Kobe, Hiroshima, and Osaka, as well as some areas south of Osaka (e.g. Wakayama, Kinokawa), and tried three more SIMs. The two physical SIMs (different branding for each) both use IIJ, which provides a Japanese IP address/routing on NTT, aleit LTE-only, so latency is ~45ms to Tokyo. The catch with NTT is that it uses two frequency bands (B42/3500 MHz LTE, n79/4900 MHz NR) that you're not going to get on an Android sold in the US, and I'm guessing that B42 would be helpful speed-wise on that network, as it doesn't have B41. I also found one place that doesn't have cell service: a vending machine in the back of the Osaka Castle tower. Or, rather, the B8/18/19 signal is weak enough there to be unusable. Going back to 5G for a moment, I saw a fair amount of Softbank n257 in Hiroshima, as well as in some train stations between Osaka and Kobe. 4x100 MHz bandwidth, anchored by B1/3/8, with speeds sometimes exceeding 400 Mbps on the US Mobile roaming eSIM. Not quite the speeds I've seen on mmW in the States, but I've probably been on mmW for more time over the past few days than I have in the US over the past year, so I'll take it. My fastest speed test was actually on SoftBank n77 though, with 100 MHz of that plus 10x10 B8 hitting ~700 Mbps down and ~80 Mbps up with ~100ms latency...on the roaming eSIM...on the 4th floor of the hotel near Shin-Kobe station. Guessing B8 was a DAS or small cell based on signal levels, and the n77 might have been (or was just a less-used sector of the site serving the train station). I'm now 99% sure that all three providers are running DSS on band 28, and I've seen 10x10 on similar frequencies from both NTT and SoftBank IIRC, on both LTE and 5G. I also picked up one more eSIM: my1010, which is different from 1010/csl used by US Mobile's eSIM unfortunately, as it's LTE-only. On the bright side, it's cheap (10GB/7 days is like $11, and 20GB for the same period would be around $15), and can use both KDDI and SoftBank LTE. It also egresses from Taiwan (Chunghwa Telecom), though latency isn't really any better than the Singapore based eSIMs. Tomorrow will include the most rural part of our journey, so we'll see how networks hold up there, and from tomorrow night on we'll be in Tokyo, so any further reports after that will be Tokyo-centric.
    • I think the push for them is adding US Mobile as a MVNO with a priority data plan.  Ultimately, making people more aware of priority would allow them (and other carriers) to differentiate themselves from MVNOs like Consumer Cellular that advertise the same coverage. n77 has dramatically reduced the need for priority service at Verizon where the mere functioning of your phone was in jeopardy a couple of years ago if you had a low priority plan like Red Pocket. Only have heard of problems with T-Mobile in parts of Los Angeles. AT&T fell in between. All had issues at large concerts and festivals, or sporting events if your carrier has no on-site rights. Edit: Dishes native 5g network has different issues: not enough sites, limited bandwidth. Higher priority would help a few. Truth is they can push phones to AT&T or T-Mobile.
    • Tracfone AT&T sims went from QCI 8 to 9 as well a couple years ago. I'm pretty neutral towards AT&T's turbo feature here, the only bad taste left was for those who had unadvertised QCI 7 a couple months ago moved down to 8. In my eyes it would have been a lot better for AT&T to include turbo in those Premium/Elite plans for free to keep them at QCI 7, while also introducing this turbo add on option for any other plans or devices. As it stands now only a handful of plans can add it, and only if you're using a device on a random list of devices AT&T considers to be 5G smartphones.
