I wonder when the iPhone 7 get the update...will it just be a carrier settings update or bundled with the next iTunes update?

That's false. Only device that supports it right out the box is the HTC Bolt and I guess the Samsung galaxy s7s now, everything else needs an update

I picked this band 41 carrier in Frederick MD which is right outside the DC Metro Area....maybe this is the 3rd carrier?

Yes, so far I picked up 41176 and 41374 but in Montgomery County ( I swore I picked up 40978 at one point) but I drove to Frederick last week and today and I noticed I was connected to 39956.

Good question.

 

Whatever it is, they're running short of time to have it done for the Inauguration on the 20th.

 

Of course it should be released after thorough testing, but I guess what bugs me about it is that Sprint's press release (http://newsroom.sprint.com/blogs/sprint-perspectives/sprints-dc-network-ready-to-support-a-great-american-tradition-the-presidential-inauguration.htm) talks about 3CA sites and 3CA COWs and it's unclear to me what the point is of having those unless there are updates to additional 3CA capable devices so they can utilize it as well.

 

The inauguration isn't going to be overrun with HTC Bolt (which already has 3CA live on it) users as far as I know.

 

Am I missing something here?

The EARFCN is not contiguous with the 1st and 2nd carriers in DC, so not likely to be 3rd carrier. As Trip indicated, it appears to be the 2nd carrier for that local area. There is likely another EARFCN that represents the 1st carrier which is also different from the DC area.

With Sprint getting additional LTE carriers on PCS, and/or widening channels, is there anything in the works to upgrade equipment to do CA on PCS and/or ESMR/PCS/2.5 as there is now more than just B25+B26 as a reason.  Or should we expect Sprint to just load balance for the foreseeable future?

B25xB25 CA is planned. 25+41 I don't know. Band 26 will not be used. Doing so uses up at it's capacity. Only reason the other carriers use band 12/13 is cause its all the spectrum they have..

The market has some band 41 but very few towers are upgraded. Orlando and Miami markets recieved all of the attention last year. Im hoping Tampa, Jacksonville and the panhandle get it this year.

Ditto on B25 10x10, that said - Sprint has started pulling (and been issued) permits  for B41 upgrades in Tampa. So movement resumes on that front.

Yeah but Tampa doesn't have the spectrum for a 10x10 b25 unless another swap is done for that market.
