Apple buying Beats

I have a feeling it's for the streaming/backend stuff more than the headphones and brand. As far as the appointing Dr. Dre and the other guy to positions in Apple corporate I assume that was a bargaining chip and little more. Maybe an appearance WWDC this year and that's it.

So what is everyone's reaction to apple buying beats?

Will Apple devices then have a switch for "iBeats off"?  (If you do not get it, be sure to say aloud what is in quotes for everyone around you to hear.)

You'll have to toggle that setting through Siri and I can't wait to hear the response confirmation.

"Siri, this is very important for you to remember.  'iBeats off' all the time."

Be careful how you say it..... siri might ask if she should keep talking while "ibeatsOff" is active!

When AJ's around, everything takes a 270 degree turn in the odd direction. :P

It's still speculation, albeit very well founded speculation.

Dr. Dre already confirmed it in a Vine. He called himself Hip-Hop's first billionaire, not too long after it was reported that Apple was buying Beats.

He won't. He's only making 480 million from it...1% problems. I thought I was gonna be a billionaire and I am only getting almost 500 million dollars.

Right, because his current net worth is definitely $0.

Wow. I didn't even account for that. How stupid of me. Just looked it up and apparently his net worth is 800 mil or something. I guess it's appropriate that the deal alone wouldn't have made him a billionaire. But combined it probably will.

Good catch lol

Yes, $100,000 in cash, $100 million in gold jewelry, $300 million in weed, and $399.9 million in chicken wings.  He has the envy of Robert on that last asset.

I guess the cost of a set of beats headphones is about to be even higher than it already was. Hats off to Iovine and Dre for using culture and custom EQ to turn an idea into 3+ B

You're thinking of McDonald's.

No, maybe you are thinking of WacArnold's.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, the Apple-Beats deal is now official!

MacDailyNews: It’s official: Apple acquires Beats Music and Beats Electronics for $3 billion http://macdailynews.com/2014/05/28/its-official-apple-acquires-beats-music-and-beats-electronics-for-3-billion/

It's amazing how much making, then posting, a dumb Facebook video about being the first Hip-Hop millionaire could cost your company ~$200,000.

The Facebook video may or may not have been the reason that happened. Beats music wasn't as big as it was made out to be, just the headphone/speaker business.

Big or not Target did give away tons of free 1-month samples...well except our store which had all but like 3 still there last time I checked. I keep forgetting to get one when I buy something back there. I work back there and forgot to hand them out

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
