So I am surprised there is not one of these. But I thought it would be nice since I have a question. Has anyone found a way to access "enginerring" screens on this tablet. I used to have a tab 2 on Verizon and could access it then. Any Ideas?

No but there was a update that I got Wednesday that added KNOX to the tab 3

Did your tab 3 update to 4.4.2?

Download an app called PRL helper, it allow you to access some of the extra settings.

Yeah that did not help. I think the engineering screens are no longer available. Darn

Not many posts about this, but I'm pretty impressed with it's battery life. Last week I managed 8 days on battery with light use (6 hours screen on time) before I hit 5% battery remaining. I wouldn't have thought the stand by time would be so good.

Do you have your screen on full brightness, dimmed down or auto?

Just wondering because I've been so busy I haven't "timed" it yet, but I have mine on full brightness. I on the other hand do have the screen on quite a bit.

I use auto brightness. It seems to stay dimmed on its own most of the time unless direct light is on the tablet.

This tab was given to me by Sprint a few days ago when I bought my (awesome, kickass) Nexus 5. At first, I was stoked. I mean, hey, a "free" tablet! But I now see how terribly abysmal the screen resolution is. Just atrocious. It's going back ASAP!!

Anyone else having wifi signal issues? I have to be very close to a wifi router or the tab wont pick up the signal.Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk

I have noticed a somewhat weaker WiFi signal than my n5, but it isn't as bad as what you are saying.

You could sell it on craigslist for $150 or eBay. And keep the tab on the $5 plan, and then after 2 years just cancel the line. You end up with a few bucks overall.

Hey, the screen could be black & white and in 8 bit. It could be worse.

The Tab isn't bad.  The size is perfect for taking with me to work and to different places through out the day.  Yea the display isn't the nicest but its better than my crappy Kindle Fire HD that I spent $150 on.  I haven't decided if Im going to keep my 2 GB $15.00 plan or if im going to drop down to the $5.00 plan. Android 4.4 would be really nice.  Hell any update would be nice. Its still on Galaxy 4.2 ( My wife has the WIFI version and it's two updates behind for some reason.) Anyone hear anything about when we are suppose to receive KitKat?

That 2 gb was a promotion, if you go down to the $5 and decide to go back the $15 plan will only get you 1gb. So keep that in mind.

  • 1 month later...

Do you think we'll receive kitkat on this tab7, or will it be unsupported now the tab4 's are coming out?

I know the cell versions of the tab3's came out quite bit later than the wifi versions, so we could be lucky.

It can be a little sluggish, but I like it, I was hoping that kitkat will improve it a little.

I like the multiuser logins, but I thought it was different to have to download the same app twice, one for each user, using up twice as much room.

I changed the animation scale to .5X and set limkts on apps running in the background and found it helps alot. But can still be a lil sluggy. I hope the new tab 4 will be smoother with its quad core.

I also changed the animation scale, I put them as zero, which I feel does help a lot also.

I try and stop most apps giving notifications too, and stop individual apps syncing in the background.

What do you mean set limits on apps running in the background, is on each individual app or is there a global setting?

Under developer options its some of the last options. Background process limit is what i changed to a smaller amount

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline June 1 for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio covering 27500-28350Mhz expiring 6/8/2028. No reported sightings.  Buildout notice issue sent by FCC in March 5, 2024 https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/letterPdf/LetterPdfController?licId=4019733&letterVersionId=178&autoLetterId=13060705&letterCode=CR&radioServiceCode=UU&op=LetterPdf&licSide=Y&archive=null&letterTo=L  No soecific permits seen in a quick check of Columbus. They also have an additional 200Mhz covering at 24350-25450 Mhz and 24950-25050Mhz with no buildout date expiring 12/11/2029.

They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
