That $2.2 billion figure cannot be accurate.  I am sure that I heard Phil Falcone say, "I need about tree fitty."

:P

Given the fixed broadband they're testing with Ntelos, I believe Charlie's intentions are to put the spectrum to use.   As long as he stays out of Sprint's way (and to a lesser degree, Tmo) , then let him set his sails to his heart's content.

If Charlie had his own spectrum i could help him out with his mobile video ventures.

If Charlie wants to tango with Lightsquared...then by all means he has the right to.  I just hope he doesn't try to get involve with Tmobile.  I don't want any wireless carrier teaming up with Dish Network.  I like the direction that Tmobile is going right now with John Legere and the way they are shaking up the wireless industry with these new plans and device upgrade policies.   A tie up with Charlie will spell disaster.

Considering Lightsquared's subprime situation, I think we all agree with The Special Man...

I could seriously tie up with the guy and have no problems. I can give dish whatever backhaul related bandwidth they need to power mobile video, I have spectrum, but i would not be willing to lease or share. If he obtained his own i could share a rack and host the connection through my backhaul/data centers. This venture would cost more than 2.2B

I was talking about in the context of a Dish and Tmobile merger.

If they can absorb Lighsquared's spectrum for supplemental downlink, with the T-Mobile spectrum depth, they will be sitting pretty, but only if it is a merger, not an acquisition. It would be best if they were run as two different companies with their own brands. Legere seems to know what he's doing and seems to have executed well.

Dish's Charlie Ergen stands to make hundreds of millions of dollars in profits personally if Dish's bid for wireless telecommunications firm LightSquared succeeds.

The odds of success are very very low. I will NEVER invest in this project. Charlie may get rich, but then the project will fail. He will be gone and sitting around counting his money.

Side thought:  It would be truly delicious if someone else will come along now and make a higher offer for Lightsquared.  I desperately want to see him pay more, in spite.

Ergen would still personally make hundreds of millions of dollars if another company comes along and buys Lightsquared.

A lot of people may not agree with Ergen, but at the end of the day he will probably be sitting around counting more money.
