Sprint 4G Rollout Updates

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - 11:56 AM MDT

The next market in our Network Vision/LTE deployment schedule update series is...Riverside/San Bernardino, otherwise known as the Inland Empire. The Riverside/San Bernardino market has yet to be announced by Sprint, and may not be announced until as late as this Fall.

The Sprint Riverside/San Bernardino market includes Riverside, San Bernardino, Ontario, Fontana, Moreno Valley, Rancho Cucamonga, Victorville/Hesperia, Murrieta, Temecula, Rialto, Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead, Barstow, Twentynine Palms, Palm Springs and Indio. Sprint's Network Vision OEM Alcatel/Lucent is scheduled to begin mobilizing their subcontractors around the market in November. The first completed Network Vision sites are scheduled to start coming online in December.

Anticipated Sites Complete at Market Launch. According to the Network Vision schedules that S4GRU has reviewed, if Sprint launched the market in April, these are the anticipated sites that would likely have LTE complete at that time. This would provide fairly good LTE coverage over many parts of the market.

Schedule details and the bottom line

Sprint has not yet selected a date to formally "launch" LTE service in the Inland Empire. It is difficult to try to pick a date now this far out, but we will try. In looking at the schedule as of today, it would indicate a April - May market launch (going on a 40% - 50% completion for launch). But there is no way to know if AlcaLu and their subcontractors will actually hit their schedule dates this early in the deployment for this market. We will be able to gauge better after a few months of production.

Alcatel/Lucent needs to hit a production rate of only 45 sites per month to stay on schedule. This is about average and the should be able to complete this market on time.

S4GRU has examined the schedule in great detail in this market and sees that most of the sites will be complete by October 2013. However, there may be a few sporadic sites that will linger past the completion.

Man coverage looks great! I may have to wait. Hopefully that Epic Touch can hold me over for 10 more months... Im in the I.E., O.C., and L.A. alot so having these 3 area covered is big for me. But I know it's alot of work. So patience is KEY! Good work guys

I completely agree. I have a Samsung Epic 4G Touch as well, and I am not interested in any LTE phone until the LA market goes live with significant LTE coverage. And I may wait even longer when LTE goes live in Orange County.

The coverage does look great for the Inland Empire, including Riverneck and Fontucky. :)

Im just happy that thermal has a tower that might get LTE since there in no 4g of any king for any carrier and sprint by far beats all other carrier here in the middle of no were, but great speed most of the time, above 2 mbs and all other carriers either have 2g with less than 3 bars or no signal at all. Best part is that my epic 4g has unlimited data which is very useful in a place that only gets dial up, or pay 50 dollars a month for only 7.5 gigs on satellite internet with about 1mb speed, last i checked i used up about 20 gigs cuz of netflix. Im glad to say that i have been a proud sprint costumer from nextel to sprint for 9 years and more to come!!!!

Will there be Guarantee that LTE will be available in Fontana, CA? I am not happy about Sprint having Wimax in Ontario and San Bernardino, but then conveniently leave Fontana in the dark relegated to slow clunky 3g

Sprint is deploying LTE on almost every one of its 38,000 sites. Only less than 100 sites in the country will not get LTE, and that is only because they cannot.

Sprint's LTE deployment is completely different than the WiMax deployment. WiMax was deployed on Clearwire sites by Clearwire, completely separate from the Sprint network. This time, Sprint is rebuilding its entire network nationwide, every single site. And while they are there doing Network Vision upgrades, they are adding LTE capability.

Sprint LTE will be deployed all over Fontana. And the coverage will be much better than WiMax ever was.

Thank you for your quick response. Much appreciated. That was my major concern because My old Evo 4g would get WiMax service spotty at best west of the 15 freeway. THats what kept me from upgrading to an LTE device

Will it be posted here when work begins in Riverside County? Just knowing they have begun turning nuts and bolts will be encouraging! :)

If so, it will be in the comments. The best place to monitor market activity is in our forums. We have over 5,000 members in all 97 markets constantly watching sites and uploading data. Also, in our Sponsor section, we have interactive maps that show all the sites converted. It gets updated every week. Looks like there is some work going on in the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs area). I saw some new panels being installed on two towers in the last few weeks as well as fiber being laid. Hopefully we'll have NV soon!

The tower nearest my house (Landau and 30th. Ave.) as well as near interstate 10 at Date Palm in Cathedral City had new panels installed in December. There was also a crew from PWC installing cable along Date Palm and Landau. I took some photos but I'm not sure how to upload them. Do I need to put them on my own server?

You can upload them to your own server, or any third party that hosts images. Please post it in the market thread here: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/2182-network-visionlte-riversidesan-bernardino-market-inland-empire/page__st__40

Thanks!

Does the timetable posted in the evaluation at the top ever get updated, or is it unchanged? I see elsewhere on the site that this area has about 23% completion, but to date only a couple sites have switched on.. briefly. Is there any way to know if the upgrade rate is going as suggested.. 45 sites a month or so?
