The Mystery (Sprint) Signal

I'm here looking for answers to a simple question. Where is this mystery Sprint signal coming from? For the past few weeks I've received a signal on multiple Sprint devices, two Sprint devices with roaming turned off, and two Virgin Mobile phones and Virgin Mobile phones can't roam, the other rate plans might be able but I'm talk about Virgin Mobile devices from before they introduced all those other plans. What I'm making clear is these devices have to be picking up a Sprint signal, plus I've downloaded the SignalCheck Pro app which has indicated two different signals 1XRTT and 1X800. The signal only last for about 8 hours each morning and begins coming in and out towards the end of each morning. I try making a call and it fails, and it doesn't get any data at all. I try each device and they all do the same thing they have a signal and very strong signal with no data, and voice doesn't go threw, I haven't tried sending a text figured no data, no voice then there must be no text. I read about some "projects" that Sprint has going on Project Ocean and Project Cedar. Since Project Ocean is suppose to be taking place in Missouri and I live so close to the Iowa, Missouri line, I figured if there is a tower going up maybe it is possible I'm getting a signal from it, in the early stages. I really don't know what is going on, if Sprint is launching service, putting up new towers and that signal finally comes, and stays, and works. I'll be back full time on the Sprint ban wagon. Unfortunately, I live in an area not served by (according to experience and coverage map) Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Not even the two Iowa carriers i Wireless or Chat Mobility serve my area, go 10, 15 or 20 miles in any direction your good, here, wireless dead zone, no choice of carriers. And if Sprint puts a tower here if I finally get an answer and learn that signal will soon come and stay and work I'll finally have a choice. So if anyone has any ideas, has experienced this in other parts of the country or has any idea what could be going on please say. Any information is better than not knowing, and together maybe this will be answered. -
I picked up a wilson signal booster at bestbuy for $250, normally $399. I am going to attempt a setup and see how well it performs. I will try a window, and hopefully pole setup. I have a tall old tv antenna running up the side of my house. I hope i can get high enough (scared of heights) to get good reception. This is going to be for testing purposes. Any suggestions for these types of installs?

So I picked up the Wilson 4g 460007(also referred to as 460107). Got it for under $100 at best buy (price match). I checked the specs which does not cover Sprint b25,b26,or b41 LTE. But I have actually seen an increase in coverage and usable signal in areas with almost no signal. I got an email this afternoon about the FreedomPop Freedom Spot Photon Platinum hotspot on sale for $19.99 with Free Shipping. I'm curious if anyone knows/has heard what LTE bands this device is running on? If it's anything like the MiFi 500, I'll sell my MiFi, pay my ETF with Sprint, and just casually use the FreedomPop instead. Thanks! -
Ever since I have my LG G2, I noticed that the LTE signal is very week yet the 3G signal from the same tower is fully available on 1900 Mhz. This is not just one tower, I noticed this all over Las Vegas. Could this be related to the LTE not being fully deployed / under construction? I have seen this on most towers that have been listed as 3G/800/4G. Has anybody noticed the same issue?

With the FCC and Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon have agreed to this new unlocking policy. How does this effect sprint phones such as the IPhone. I have heard that Sprint can unlock your phone but you can not take it to other carriers such as Verizon and the IPhone can only be used overseas. (Correct me if I am wrong). I am glad that this has finally happened. But when it comes to Sprint how would this work?

So, I am posting a suggestion as to maybe scheduling some times to get together in, "The Lounge" to discuss certain topics. I'm an amateur radio operator and we call these over the radio "Nets" You have one person as the control operator for the discussion, and each person takes their turn to discuss. (It doesn't have to be this controlled). But throw out a topic (Related to Topics within S4GRU) And we all get together at that time and discuss. We can have several topics to discuss through out the week. I know alot of us are on daily. Think It would be a cool idea. If anyone is interested, I can throw something together and present it to the admin/staff. Thoughts? Kris

I'm a former sprint customer, and recently moved to T-mobile. The main reason I moved to T-mobile had to do with the speed of the network from the speed testing websites, and they seemed to be more reliable. The second resons was that it was on GSM network which would allow for International roaming when abroad. However, I've found that when T-mobile is available it is fast, but lacks indoor penetration, something I notieced of Sprint as well, it also is not available everywhere such as sprint overall coverage. So I am now thinking of switching back to sprint because I live in Indiana and travel a lot on the road, which requires coverage that is not readily provided by T-mobile. My question, if and when Sprint moves LTE to 800mhz and 2.5Ghz, are new phones required to take advantage of that frequency or will the Moto X and Iphone 5s work on those bands? Secondly, I read that Verizon will be shutting down its CDMA network sometime next year and move to Voicelte, I'm thinking this will effect Sprint coverage since I'm sure they use their network at times. Any thoughts on that or has Sprint also announced moving to Voice over LTE? My main concern was with speed of the network, which when I have coverage with T-mobile, is much slower than Sprint (my wife still has sprint). I'm not sure I understand why the network is slower on Sprint and whether that will improve over time specfiically in Indianapolis. I appreciate any feedback so that I might move back to Sprint for the best long-term viability.

I'm looking at putting a couple antennas in my home. I all ready have an external antenna left from the previous owner although it looks like it connected straight to a Cellular modem/router as the cable coming off it is not a standard F Connector. I'm looking to see what others have done, what equipment they're using, and their results. I think I'm gonna buy piece by piece and do the installation over a period of time. If you know of anywhere to get a good deal on antennas or boosters ect. online please pass it on hear. Thanks, Gifters

I've heard around these forums that LTE will not drain a phone's battery any more than 3g on newer phones. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 though and that seems not accurate in my case to the point where I almost dread LTE showing up because I'll be having to go on airplane mode within a couple hours. Even when I go to a place with strong Sprint LTE signal with high data rates (e.g.; 20 mbps), my phone will only last a few hours at most before I am in the yellow. If I am on 3g though with that kind of signal and general use, I can generally last a day without charging. Is the Samsung Galaxy S3 just not good at LTE battery life or is LTE simply a battery hog? I am hoping it is the former since I'm going to be upgrading soon.

Hi guys I post here and there and haven't posted in a while anyways I was sitting at home and all of the sudden out of the blue 4g is on my phone, I thought I was crazy...speed tested and was not. The sad thing is it disappeared after 5 minutes and hasn't returned. They have been doing work on this tower in my rural community as I have mentioned in past posts. My question is do they perform like 5 minute tests and just don't turn it back on for a while cause I have it for a total of 5 minutes earlier today and its been gone since.

They are constantly doing work on this tower I know its not the best photo but they just put these white panels on the tower I have checked and found that the tower is owned by STC Two LLC which is a subsidiary owner of sprint towers, my thing is, is that on the sprint website it's not marked for an LTE upgrade. I've seen lots of trucks with huge metal box like building things along with tons of people working in and out of there. Today FreedomPop announced the availability of the MiFi 500 (the tri-band one...they just call it by the internal model number rather than the marketing model number) on their service. This includes the free 500MB data option, as well as the more expensive plans (e.g. 2GB for $20). The device itself is $150. They're offering a couple of promotions right now that net you 3GB at no additional charge (beyond the device cost) for the first month. I'm trying to pick one up but am having issues getting their website to let me order anything. For folks who want to try out TD-LTE/LTE in 800 and don't want to sign a contract/don't need 3GB of data on their hotspot and don't want to pay $35+ per month as a result, this works. And the 500MB plan (400MB if you don't want the possibility of paying overages) is enough for occasional access...and it's free!

My tower near 156th and industrial(omaha ne) just started giving a signal recently. For this basic 4g tower, how far can I expect to recieve a signal? Also, once this is upgraded to the 800mhz that i keep reading about, how much farther will the signal reach? -
Hello all, I have a question about my sprint airave. The closest tower to my house is approximately 4 miles away if I'm correct. So what I'm wondering is when this tower is eventually upgraded to 4G, will my phone be able to connect to it? Or will my airave being a stronger signal override the 4G signal? Side question: are 4G signals stronger or weaker than 3G signals necessarily? Thanks for any insight you guys can supply

I have a question, outside of the data issue, Why is it that people refuse to be on sprint? I have seen people talk bad about Sprint more than T-Mobile. -

Honest opinion, once sprint is near complete with the Network Vision build out do you guys think that sprint will still offer unlimited data? I know with lte comes increased usage and because of that do you think sprint may turn to data limits to keep the network from being hit to hard?

So seeing as how Sprint is aiming to have Network Vision mostly completed by the end of this year as well as the apparent inclusion of LTE upgrades to Network.sprint.com, do you think they are focusing on doing strictly NV upgrades or are there still band-aid fixes taking place? -
I was in the Sprint store on 119th and Roe, close to the sprint campus. I've been in many times before and only connected 3G. I look at their tablets and they only connected 3G. Well, yesterday I went in to see what can be done to upgrade my wife's photon to and iPhone 5 and surprise I was connecting 4G inside the store. I know the area has 4G, but I always have problems connecting LTE just east of the Sprint campus.

It seems like Sprint is putting LTE in all the states around Ohio and not in Ohio except for the 1 tower in Cleveland. Anyone heard a reason why it has not started in Ohio

Been checking my phone lately and i found that it was connecting to CDMA eHRPD. For all of you that are new to this, eHRPD is used generally on CDMA carriers to allow a smooth transition from EVDO to LTE technologies. Im starting this topic to see how many of you guys out there have access to eHRPD. Also, when using eHRPD, instead of the data at the tower going through the CDMA switchboard, it goes through the LTE core instead. Maybe not much of a noticable speed increase, but eHRPD may be faster when the CDMA switchboard is reaching full capacity. Anyways, if anyone ever has any questions related to this, comment on this post or send me a message. I have an acceptable level of knowledge with networking and infastructures. Everyone else, post here if you do have access to an eHRPD enabled cell site. This can be checked by going to settings, about phone, then look for the network status option where from there, it will tell you the signal strength in dBm, the ASU, and the network type.
