Evo 4G Lte - "National Release Date"

GW1973

Recommended Posts

Based on my experience when I went to pick up mine, I'm convinced that stores were having issues with pre-orders/reservations not showing up in the system yet the device is actually in the cabinet with the customer's pre-order paperwork wrapped around it. Unfortunately, that doesn't do anything to help folks today since they won't be fulfilling any orders until Saturday.

Yeah, you said that before, so I went to the BB where I pre-ordered and had them check. No dice. Still couldn't get them on the phone though, so I called another BB near me and was able to talk to the Mobile Manager. He said they had not received their phones for Saturday, but told me to call back and ask for him before 6 (end of his shift) so he could give me an update.

Also, since BB now has the "purchase and activate a new EVO and get $50 GC" promo going on, and I have the Phone Freedom promo already, I can get the phone for $100.

Well, I finally got a hold of the mobile manager at the BB location where I pre-ordered my phone. Apparently they only received 4 in their initial shipment, but he says they should get a lot of them tonight, and mine will be set aside as a pre-order. He couldn't say for sure though, so my plan is to go to the other BB in the morning, see if they have them available for regular customers so I can pick one up there, and if not, then I still have the pre-order to fall back on.

What a mess.

I have to say though, my any BB feelings have turned more into anti location feelings toward the particular store in Daytona, because the two times I have spoken with someone in the other location they have been professional, direct, and able to assist.

At least I live in a market with a very very low percentage of sprint customers. Should give me a good chance of snagging it anywhere tomorrow.

I called them and the little guy put me on hold to check. He came back and said they have only been receiving a few here and there spread out across the stores in the area. I will call them in the morning and see what's up. If they don't have it I will go to the other 2 stores that show they have it available tomorrow. They are the mobile stores. Then on to the sprint store. BestBuy would probably screw up my SERO-P plan anyways.

If I wasn't getting such a good deal from BB, I would hit up my local Sprint store, or Wal-Mart tomorrow.

I'm thinking that if they (BB) get my pre-order in for tomorrow, it won't be until late tonight, so I could possibly get an e-mail or something in the morning. I wish I had pre-ordered from the Sanford store, because they have been great every time I called them. That's why I'm going to head over there and see if they have any in stock first thing in the morning. They deserve my business.

I doubt they are doing Saturday shipping when they had several days to do it. I have already come to the conclusion that my local BB failed me. Time to get pissy with them so I can still get my $50 card at another store though. Squeaky wheel gets the grease!

So we thought that we would get 10 phones for launch tomorrow but we were surprised! We got 2 shipments of 10 so once we put up our 2 Demo units we have 18 to sell tomorrow!!!! Im not sure if all corporate stores got the same but i would guess they did!

The mobile managers at both locations said that they should get them on their usual Friday truck. Don't give up hope!.

The BB website says they are on sale starting tomorrow, so cross your fingers.

Called my best buy and no dice they said they didn't get any in. Mobile store says they have some on the website but they won't answer. Called the sprint store and they said they have plenty. Need to go there anyways so they won't mess up my sero plan on my lines. I am reminded why I don't shop BB anymore though as they screwed up things in the past for me.

I stopped by my Sprint store near D/FW and looked at the new Evo today. Very nice build quality. I've been upgrade eligible for over a year and a half and I think I'm going to get the Evo LTE, but I'll wait for the announcement of Galaxy S III just to be sure. The screen is great. I watched a couple of movie previews that looked awesome. They had all the accessories in store ready to sell.

*they filled my order

I will feel bad if someone goes to pick up their phone and it's gone, but not bad enough to turn down getting my order filled. Besides, it had been there almost a week without being picked up, so F that guy/girl. hehe

I went to BB and had a good experience. I did pre-order last Saturday. I walked in as the doors opened and was the first one at the Mobile Center. The guy setting me up did not offer any thing about the phone, but knew about it. He actually asked me a question about why I wanted that phone, I told him what i knew and we talked about the camera features. I will say that between the local corporate Sprint store & the BB close by, I am good to go. My corp store has a tech there & they were helpful as my Photon went screwy twice. I did not return it after the second time, just said I would wait for the Evo to come out. One Sprint employee kept trying to sell me on the Galaxy S2. Why would I go to an older phone when A) a newer phone with better spec is coming out & B) it is Wimax & the newer phones are LTE. San Diego is not a good Wimax area, so no need to stick with it.

Does the Sprint stores have accessories in yet? I really want a case and a car dock. My BestBuy had cases but were sold out of the black. I didn't really want pink or white.

With no word on when/if an actual OEM HTC version is coming, I bought the only car dock available for it which is the $35 Sprint branded one. It has a removable sleeve so you can use most any case except for the Otterbox Defender. It does automatically go into Car Mode when docked. Obviously this dock is not as sleek as an OEM version for the One X as an example.

Walked in my Sprint corporate store around 1pm. Picked up the phone with no issues. Store was dead, just me the entire time. The guy had to call someone to get the new SERO-P code for LTE but that was it.

Got it all setup now....custom ROM, rooted, and brought over all my settings and game data with no issues. Have to get used to the no keyboard thing now. That's a work in progress.:)

You'll survive without the keyboard. I'm sure of it. I'm making it with Swype. Fun stuff.

I am getting there. Just using the regular HTC keyboard. Works pretty well so far. Got rid of that dumb on screen menu button that takes of screen space. It is mapped to the unused recent app button.

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline in June for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio iirc. No reported sightings.

They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
    • Was true in my market. Likely means a higher percentage of 5g phones in your market.
