  1. Welcome to des Moines!!!! Glad you are having a good experience here, service has been pretty great around the metro the past 9 months or so.
  2. #bendgate LG G Flex, bending phones before bending phones was popular
  3. hey, i'm going to reply to your question in the sponsor thread (link in my signature) since we are starting to talk about specific towers and stuff. Head there to see my reply and continue the discussion! http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4711-nebraska-iowa-market-spreadsheets-and-maps/page-222
  4. its possible to turn LTE off on an iphone, my mother in law has an iphone 5 and i was doing maintenance on it the other day and found that somehow LTE got turned off so she was stuck on 3G. not that she really uses data
  5. the only other thing i can think of is if B26 LTE (LTE over 800Mhz) is enabled in your area and if your prior phone didn't support that and so now when you are in areas where you used to drop LTE you are now switching over to B26 instead of dropping back to 3G. Edit: just saw your reply. i've not been to the area myself so i can't confirm or deny anything, i'm just going off the dates we have as to when sprint showed LTE got enabled. with a 5s though you should have been switching over to B26, unless of course they are working in the area now and just enabled B26. B25 LTE should have been on and working for several months though. can you check your field test screen and see what band you are on and post a screenshot? in the dialer, dial *3001#12345#* and hit send and it will bring up the filed test screen. then go to serving cell info and it will give you details about the tower/sector you are connected to.
  6. what phone did you have before? that area has had most of their towers enabled with LTE for at least 6+ months now.
  7. hello and welcome! i'm from this area too and am glad you are having such a good experience so far! just like any network though, there will be holes and problem spots, but overall sprint is much much better than it used to be. i switched to sprint when the original EVO came out and service, data wise, is much better now than it was before. voice has always been great on sprint around here and continues to be great after the network update. and you are right about verizon going downhill! my work phone is verizon so i'm always comparing the two and while there are plenty of spots that verizon will beat sprint, i'm finding more and more where sprint is beating verzion and as NGeorge said above, as long as you stick to the metro service will be great, sprint has the interstates covered pretty good, but outside of that service in rural areas isn't the best and does need some work. with softbank backing them though there is no where to go but up EDIT: also, if you feel so inclined to donate to this site and become a sponsor, follow the link in my signature as we have been making our own maps and have a pretty up to date picture of the towers around here
  8. Has anyone looked at the PRL yet to see if 1x800 is still a lower priority?
  9. i called my local sprint store with this same question, mine was about an iphone 6 for my wife, but it should be the same answer. your trade in credit can not be applied to the cost of the phone, which would then reduce your monthly payments. you can put it towards accessories or receive a bill credit, that's all.
  10. Just to add on the zoom modem, I have Mediacom internet on their 150 down 20 up package and I've seen speeds as high as 170 down. They will eventually offer a 305 down package and that modem will work with that as well.
  11. i use this cable modem http://www.amazon.com/Zoom-DOCSIS-Cable-Modem-5341J/dp/B0063K4NN6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411061269&sr=8-1&keywords=zoom+cable+modem and this router http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Archer-C7-Wireless-1350Mbps/dp/B00BUSDVBQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411061299&sr=8-1&keywords=tplink+ac1750 and they have been rock solid for the 3 months i've had them so far!
  12. didn't see this linked and found it while poking around the sprint site, i'm guessing anyone that ordered a model thats marked in the 2-5 day range will be getting it friday..... http://shop.sprint.com/modals/shipping_details.html
  13. Damn, it was probably for Verizon then. They have been doing a lot of upgrades around here recently.
  14. Was it 1 of the 2 towers right off university and 235 there? If so was it he one on the north or south side of university? The north one is the wimax protection site and the south one is a Sprint site.
  15. has anyone found out any info on this on how that promo applies to easy pay/non contract phones? I was going to do sprint chat today to find out but it hasn't popped up as being available all day long.
  16. i'm curious about this as well..... my wife has an iphone5 and we are on a Framily plan (the old contract on her phone from before switching to Framily is up this month). i can't imagine we could walk into the store and give them her iphone5 and walk out with an iphone6 without paying anything more per month....
  17. I wonder if things will change with regards to 1x800 voice being set to a lower priority on this version of the iPhone?
  18. i have the original wilson sleek (supposedly stops at 1990 Mhz on the top end) and mine also works for both B25 and B26. i use it at my work and if i take my phone out of the cradle i either lose 4G completely or have a really weak B26 signal, like -120 or worse. in the cradle with my antenna in the right spots i get -105 to -110 signals on both B25 and B26. there are 3 others at my work on sprint and we all have the sleek or else we wouldn't get 4G in our building. 2 of us have the original and 2 of them have the one thats supposed to work for B25 on sprint. All of them boost both B25 and B26 the same.
  19. sounds like a tower issue then, at E 4th and Grand you would most likely both be connected to the same tower.
  20. hmmmm..... well i'm not going to be much help as i have no idea what would be causing that issue. You don't have any GMO sites around you and you are like 2 blocks from a tower so you probably don't connect to any other towers than that one. at this point you can either just live with it or continue trying to narrow it down. its either a tower issue or a device issue. things i can think of to try and eliminate variables is, do you have the issue when you aren't near downtown? like if you go out to west des moines do you have the issue happen? on the device side you would have to find someone you know with an android phone to come over and see if they have it happen while connected to the same tower. you could also try posting in the iphone 5/5s threads to see if other people have had this problem, that will get a little more exposure from people and could help narrow it down to device or tower. i just had this issue happen this morning, but i was on 3G and connected to a GMO site. everything on my phone looked like it was connected but nothing would work data wise. had to do airplane mode to get it going. i'm on my phone on 4G almost all day at work and i've never seen it happen while connected to 4G
  21. hello and welcome where is the nearest street intersection to your house? There are still a couple of GMO (sites that didn't get new panels and don't have LTE yet) sites left in the metro that can cause some weird data issues, of course thats usually on 3G not LTE. I have had issues with data not working on 3G but its always cause of a GMO site. when on LTE i haven't had any issues you are describing. does your s/o have an iphone 5s too? anyone else you know on sprint with a different model phone come over and have the same issues? also you might want to prepare yourself as you will probably get chastised for not using wifi at home and continuing to use data on the sprint network. it doesn't matter to me what you do, but there are strong opinions about that on here so just be prepared
  22. went and took a look at it wasn't anything related to Sprint the middle rack is sprint at that tower and all it had was the NV panels and the legacy panels. Not sure who the bottom rack is though.
  23. thanks for the report! its been awhile since i've been to that tower so i can't remember what rack sprint is on, i *think* it might be the bottom rack. AT&T is doing upgrades in the area too and they are on that tower as well, so it could have been them. If i get a chance i'll swing out that way sometime and take a look
  24. this happened at one of the GMO sites around me. It was a water tower site and it got installed as a GMO last December. Then about 2 months ago and temporary tower showed up and went live and the legacy panels were taken off the water tower. Turns out they were painting the water tower. Once the painting was done a crew showed up and installed NV panels on the water tower and it is now live as a full build site. a temporary tower is not always needed to convert a GMO, as there have been several other GMO conversions around here where the new panels get installed and the site gets cut over to them. If they have to do any significant work to the tower to support the NV panels and the legacy panels have to be removed in order to do that work they you would get a temporary tower setup.
  25. yes there are quite a few spots around here that could use some expansion of towers. the main problem with signal between ames and des moines is that the tower outside of huxley is GMO and GMO towers seem to be causing/having their own set of problems. Once that goes full build it *should* be much better through there
