  1. Since all of us find ourselves on S4GRU to be the tech savvy type (most of us) lets compare PC specs and make suggestions for future upgrades to your PC. 3. Mike, as you can see I have an asterisk, too bad my phone isn't LTE Band 41 capable. I find it odd that under Samsung's engineering screen it shows the MCC-MNC as 310120 under the LTE engineering screen but pops up 311490 on SignalCheck.
  4. Hello from the Tri-Cities (Bristol) which isn't to far off from the great town of Lynchburg.
  5. When you say upgrading I am going to assume your referring to the data speeds, since Shentel completed their "network vision" project all of Shentel's sites should have fiber. I would assume if a site became bogged down to where data was pretty much unusable they could upgrade the data speeds for capacity. Having 3/1.65Mbps connection on your phone with low pings, who would be complaining about that? There are some parts fo the United States that do not have access to a broadband internet connection or even cellular service for that matter.
  6. A little late but thanks Mike for the update, I hope you and your family had a very merry Christmas and have a happy New Year, wish all of you at S4GRU the best in 2014!
  7. First, the -110db to -120db signal means you are on the edge of an LTE signal and almost unusable, thats why your phone keeps flipping back over to 3G. The LTE is on the new backhaul and doesn't mean the 3G side of things have been connected yet. You should compare the sites that are slated to get network vision upgrades to the sites that have been completed in your area, preferably the closest to your home.
  8. Don't know if anyone has read this article or if it has been posted but..... 6 Reasons Sprint Shouldn't Buy T-Mobile. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2428370,00.asp
  9. Mr. Son (SoftBank) has plenty on his plate right now, overseeing Sprint overhaul its network. Sprint's network needs to be overhauled and completed before they even think about looking at a possible bid for T-Mobile. And if there is anything learned is to wait...it was just 2 years ago when AT&T attempted to buy T-Mobile and was blocked by the Dept. of Justice, nothing has changed in Washington as far as voices are concerned. They want to keep the wireless business competitive with 4 major wireless providers and making a bid in the first half of 2014 will only come to a repeat of the 2011 failed AT&T/T-Mobile merger.
  10. Those pictures look awesome, it looks like a Nexus world
  11. For what its worth three sites surrounding me went 3G accepted as of Dec. 8th so I don't know if they are physically doing work at one of these sites which could be giving me the off the wall location at the site they are working on, just a theory. I'll have to drive around and try to lock on to this site and see which site it is.
  12. Mike or anyone that may have some insight as to why this is happening, BSL is showing Swinging Bridge Road, Mendota...first I am no where near Mendota, VA its a good 15-20 miles from Bristol, and second Sprint doesn't even have a tower out in Mendota, VA I've looked at the maps. I know that the BSL doesn't actually tell you where the site is located but only a general area of where the site is, this started yesterday when I started picking this off the wall location up. Any ideas?

and hello from the TriCities, TN area, hope you enjoy S4GRU!
  14. Just thought I'd share my fiber goodies to you guys, not FIOS but still FTTH by OptiNet. Bottom picture is an "Ethernet Transceiver" by Tantalus for the smart grid. My home acts as the neighborhood's communications hub for the digital smart meters which communicates to my ONT then the signal goes through the fiber network and back to their central office, no more meter readers or calling if the power goes out whats funny is our water meters are the same way I'll snap a pic sometime of the underground antennas.
  15. I've had the 4.3 update for a little over a week now, phone seems much smoother, faster, and it seems like the screen is more crisp and clear. I miss my scrolling marquee for the news on the lock screen wish there was a way to get it back...
  16. Never got the "to make a collect call" notification when trying to make outbound calls, I would get a busy tone when using my landline phone to call my GS3 almost like the signal was non-existent.
  17. Received the 4.3 OTA update last weekend, seems like the phone runs smoother, snappier, and the display seems more crisp. I did a factory reset on my S3 when after I downloaded the update. Couldn't be more happier.
  18. To me near future could be weeks, months, or a year...either way eHRPD is a good sign.....
  19. What kind of problems did you have? I live in Bristol and I couldn't use the LTE data connection on a tower in Bristol, TN even though my phone was reporting there was a signal, battery pulls, restarts, etc still couldn't get it too work. Also eHRPD has vanished at home and on Bristol, VA side of town, now my phone is taking hard hand offs going from EVDO to LTE, also I couldn't make calls or send texts. As of today looks like eHRPD is back.
  20. I didn't mean to put this in the NO thread....(brain fart)....but if you guys could help it would be much appreciated, after all both markets are in the Ericsson service area.
