  1. Now that it is confirmed by Sprint that it is laying the Nextel name to rest for good, what about the VM USA and Boost Mobile merger into "Sprint Freedom?" Any word on this yet?
  2. That is what I was thinking when I saw the 3 digits, its always been 5 digits around here legacy or NV.
  3. Jeremy, let us know if you experience electromagnetic hypersensitivity
  4. -100 to -105dB is technically a usable signal, I am a little confused on what the problem is. The picture on the left is when you are roaming and the picture on the right is your native coverage for Sprint? As far as 1x and 3G EVDO you will not get the same signal as EVDO is a little fragile compared to CDMA 1x RTT. The picture on the right it looks as if your are getting voice service from another Sprint site other than the site that has the incoming EVDO signal, were you 3G roaming? EDIT: I've never seen a Basestation ID with only 3 numerical digits like that before for on Sprint.
  5. AJ, on November 1, 2013 a cell site was turned on in Western Grayson County, VA which provides service all they way to Troutdale, VA which is approximately 8 miles from Sugar Grove, VA. The 8 miles between Troutdale, VA and Sugar Grove are hilly meaning there is no way service would reach Sugar Grove. And yes Troutdale, VA has a whopping 194 residents, I personally don't know the area well but why USCC decided to throw up a site there is beyond me. When I say facing away the site is on the Southern end of Troutdale, more than likely one sector serving Troutdale, another sector facing Troutdale Hwy. and the last sector facing Highlands Parkway being in the 800MHz band this goes pretty far...except...north towards Sugar Grove due to the mountains and hills. In order for Sugar Grove to get service they would need to throw up a site on the northern side of Troutdale and face two sectors down towards Sugar Grove and the last sector towards the mountainous road coming into Sugar Grove from the South.
  6. Funny you mention US Cellular because they just put up a site on the opposite side of the mountain facing away from Sugar Grove which didn't make any sense. The woman I spoke to that has been trying to get a tower constructed there said that cellular 850 reaches down Sugar Grove Hwy. just 2 miles before the town of Sugar Grove then there isn't service.
  7. Yes there are sites along the I-81 corridor that Sprint has but 1900 PCS isn't going to reach the little town of Sugar Grove, VA from I-81. Difficult...no, a challenge...yes its all about where these sites are placed where they can't get the maximum coverage within a particular area. I have been in contact with the woman that has been trying to get cellular service for the area for 10 years, I am trying to help point her in the right direction or at least write a grant to the Dept. of Commerce on getting a tower constructed. No one wants to spend the money to construct a cell site then buy the equipment that will only serve less than 1,000 people.
  8. I remember here in my home town of Bristol there was only one or two cell towers in the middle of town (still there today/in service). Towards the end of the 90s (97-99) cell tower construction exploded and they were popping up everywhere, today there are about 15 or so just within the city limits.
  9. Pretty interesting article I found yesterday in my local news, when you have cell service you don't really think about the people that can't access it like these folks in Sugar Grove, VA. Sugar Grove is a small town of about 1,000 people, its about 40-45 miles from my home town of Bristol. Maybe Sprint/Shentel can help these folks out if they can get a tower constructed. 10. Lets hope Bill Belichick brings his amazing coaching skills to Denver Sunday, I am tired of seeing Manning on TV!!
  11. hairy beaver.....really.....how did we get on beaver? Thanks wiley_11
  12. These questions may have already been answered, but here it goes. How do the OEMs (Ericsson, Lucent, Samsung) decide on which Sprint sites get 1x 800 which ones stay on PCS, am I asking this correctly? Will every site be on 800 or have they already determined which sites need 800 (rural, etc) due to signal strength tests?
  13. Home screen on my Galaxy S3, yep I like to keep it simple
  14. Run away, run very very far away and don't look back. Just as koiulpoi stated in a couple of posts above, look at the Nexus 7 tablets. If not the 2013 model I'm sure you could find a 2012 Nexus 7 pretty cheap these days. Edit: Additional Note...Big Lots and tablets don't belong in the same sentence together...like water and oil they don't mix runnnnnnnnnnn away.
  15. Its happened to me twice within about a weeks time, I just reboot the app which fixes the problem.
  16. Mike, do you know why sometimes under Provider it just displays the numeric SID where it normally says Sprint?
  17. Okay so maybe someone can explain why this is going on... First picture is of my Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE Engineering screen showing 310-120 as the MCC-MNC. Second picture is from Mike's SignalCheck Pro app showing 311-490 as the MCC-MNC. Yes, I am using VM USA but why would the engineering screen spit out 310-120 which is normally seen on Band 25 but, SignalCheck is putting out 311-490?
  18. Going to assume the library has a secure network, correct? If so do you know what type of security they are using for the WiFi (TKIP, AES, etc)? How old is the computer, reason I am asking is because some WiFi capable devices will not work on certain types of encryption security, it will recognize the SSID that is being broadcast but will not ever connect. I have had this problem before and as soon as I changed the type of security it started to connect.
  19. I wouldn't doubt AJ at all, I know he is correct that 3-6dB gain is the normal, as other sites around my area that have been NV'd don't see a 20dB gain like that. I just found it odd and was shocked that I was getting sub 80dB signal strengths when I am use to 92 - 100dB before the new equipment went live. So maybe there was some type of defect in the legacy equipment, or the way the new panel on the 2nd sector is now just about pointed right at me. Either way I'm happy to see the new equipment up and running.
  20. Didn't they kill off the One Up last week?
  21. Thanks, foliage is probably the biggest reason, it is winter after all. I'll see what my signals are once spring makes it way back around (can't wait by the way). I'm sure living on a hill also helps.
  22. Then elaborate and tell me why not because two months ago I wasn't getting these signal strengths when legacy equipment was still in use...these are outside results not indoors.
