  1. Not surprised. I expected it to be lower than others were thinking. Mostly because this whole push for competitive plans happened pretty late in the game and compared to T-Mobile it is harder for Sprint to grab customers from Verizon or AT&T. This is a great step forward for them but they need to be compelling enough of a value for people on AT&T and Verizon to give them a shot. T-Mobile now has a reputation for having a blazing fast network in urban areas and people will take a chance if that means cheaper service and (for AT&T customers) not even buying a new phone. I want Sprint to be confident enough in the network that they offer test drives like T-Mobile does. I currently am not confident enough that they are there yet but I feel like it is coming along nicely.
  2. I hope they sell a ton of these and I can buy one used next year. Nexus 5 resale prices have remained stubbornly high for anyone looking to get one used. Though I wonder if there is just some informal price floor for a new top of the line phone not being sold for under 300 or so after 1 year.
  3. I also think Sprint extending promotions and continuing to tweak plans is a very good sign that this pricing strategy is showing some success. The corporate Sprint store near me looked full when I went to grab lunch yesterday.
  4. Yeah but so did a few other promos that have since been extended so I wanted to be sure. I already removed it from my pricing spreadsheet.
  5. Thanks for this. I added it to the spreadsheet. It still means the cheapest someone can get 2 lines on Family Share with no discount is $70.00 though. Maybe it is an easier upsell to "Add a GIG for only $5!" or something. Once you get to 3 lines it is only $5 more for a new customer to go from 1 GB to 20 GB ($95 vs $100) /edit: This is more like $20 + $25 per line Family Share is now a thing. I'd rather they just eliminate the 1 GB tier and make it 2 GB so the progression goes $20 for 2 GB, $40 for 4GB, $70 for 8GB, etc.
  6. Yes it supports all Sprint LTE bands. I have one and it has been fantastic so far. I have no plans to move to a new phone even with the latest and greatest phones being released right now. Plus there are 2 advantages you have right now: 1) people moving to the HUGE Nexus 6 might be putting them up for sale which may drop the current market price slightly and 2) Android 5.0 Lollipop will be coming to the device soon which apparently improves both camera function and battery life.
  7. Wow. I was considering it for christmas if the price was right but $649 is amazingly expensive. I guess we will have to see what Sprint devices come out over the next year. Very disappointed by that price. I had $500 in mind, maybe.
  8. When it happens to me I either toggle airport mode or do a PRL update and it fixes it.
  9. You take the REALLY long way to work because there might be new B26 towers Your wife recognizes S4GRU and calls it "the yellow website, again?!"
  10. This is potentially a really big deal here in Texas if Sprint can get the word out enough. A lot of families I know have an AT&T plan etc for their iPhones and then a cheapo flip phone + calling card for their calls to relatives in Mexico. I'm sure they would consider changing carriers to 1) save money and 2) save complication
  11. So far they like it because they have used more data than they did on AT&T and where they live the coverage is quite good. They have experienced a few slow spots in urban areas that they didn't really get on AT&T but overall I feel they are pretty happy with the move and the money they are saving each month. The crucial difference for them was the 25% employer discount they had at Sprint vs 10% or so at AT&T. It adds up to quite a bit.
  12. I think it has more to do with people wanting a direct comparison when they shop around. So they see "unlimited" and may associate it with the AT&T or T-Mobile version of "unlimited" which means throttled data after a certain point. With a 60 GB or whatever plan they can see they get that much data. It seems weird but that is how some of my relatives talked about it when they moved over to Sprint a week ago (yes they did use my spreadsheet ).
  13. Well, to me this proves that Verizon and AT&T take Sprint much more seriously than they take T-Mobile Edit: I guess I have to edit my spreadsheet
  14. I think their $60 2GB plan or whatever will do a LOT to keep current subs from totally leaving. They may downgrade service to the lower plans though. I think the promo is very smart with the free 1 GB per line or whatever. In fact right now you can get the 10 GB more everything plan for 2 lines for $130+phone cost. That is pretty good value on Verizon.
  15. I am going to vote for closer to 100K net sub adds and possibly lower (which would still be good!). I think the changes competitors make in reaction to Sprint's plans (such as AT&T's doubled data) will severely curb the potential moves from other carriers. I also think Verizon will have a great Q3 while T-Mobile will continue to pull from Sprint and AT&T. AT&T will probably be the carrier who takes the biggest hits this quarter due to defections to T-Mobile and Sprint. I can't say I have met a single Verizon customer that even considers switching carriers.
  16. I wonder if Apple wouldn't allow Sprint to discount the actual phone so that is why Sprint did the $200 trade in and cheaper service? Sorry for not quoting I like browsing here on mobile but I also dislike tapatalk or whatever.
  17. From what I have read you are correct in that it must be done at a store and additionally it may take up to 5 days to show eligibility for a new phone.
  18. At this point I can't tell if dedub is trolling for comments or just refuses to accept any possible explanation for the iPhone pricing. "ITS A DISCOUNT ON THE SERVICE #!@#!@#!@!!@## ghjkghskdlfhjksdlf" Why is this such a sticking point when people get all kinds of SERVICE discounts at Sprint for employer discounts, credit union discounts, student discounts, even union discounts. I think there are even discounts for retired teachers. I guess if you are looking for something to help salve the wound, iPhone users that want more than 16GB get to pay at least 100 more when most Android users can buy a cheap MicroSD card.
  19. It isn't a generalization though. The fact that iPhone users are more loyal to their carrier as a whole has been documented a few times. I'm on mobile right now so googling it is kind of a pain but I thought it was common knowledge just like how iPhone users spend more on accessories and apps. Drawing in higher spend customers with discounts is fine by me. The $60 unlimited plan is still the best in the entire industry, right?
  20. Okay, I will make a deal with you and I say this as a Nexus 5 user: You get all Android users to be more loyal to their current carrier and match the staying power of iPhone users and then Sprint can drop your bill $10 a month. Otherwise you are a HIGHER COST customer because as an Android user you tend to have higher churn. I don't have a problem with this at all because a more apt comparison is Soft(Bank, get it?) is giving iPhone users a better deal based on the lower level of risk much like an actual bank does for people with higher credit ratings when they need a mortgage. On the other hand, if you don't like it you can always buy a Nexus 5 for $349 (14.5/mo over 24 months) and pay $60/mo. For $74.50 you are paying less than an easypay iphone user and also own your phone at the end of 2 years. Oh and employer discounts also apply to your plan unlike the iPhone plan so @25% discount you would pay $22.5 ($30x.75)+ $30 for talk and text portion + $14.5 = $67/mo which is LESS than an iPhone for life plan!
  21. I think if you have a D-link and are having issues they will send out an Actiontek GT784whatever to replace it. My mother in law seems to find it much easier to work with and it has been a good modem for her. http://www.verizon.com/Support/Residential/Internet/HighSpeed/Networking/Troubleshooting/Troubleshooting.htm http://www.actiontec.com/262.html
  22. They are discounting the service while taking into account that iPhone users switch carriers less often than Android users. They are also making significant disincentives for these new iPhone users to leave if they choose the iPhone for life program. So, if they discount it to a level where they still make money monthly off these users while also having less churn for these new users going forward it makes great financial sense to me.
  23. Good to see that BGR has remained consistent in their rumor-mongering inaccuracy as far back as 2011. FWIW, iPhone users are widely known to have the highest carrier bills in the industry so I don't know how hard it would be to make that investment back. It DOES seem slightly telling that historically Sprint iPhones have the lowest resale value of all the carriers. (great if you are a Sprint customer buying one though!)
  24. You should consider a new router too
