Network Vision/LTE - Boston Market (all of Massachusetts)

I realize that.  my post was an example of how difficult it can be to get something fixed if has to do with the tower instead of your phone.  Also there is a similarity with the fact that my phone shows bars of service but data doesn't work.  And since it has nothing to do with Wimax, I can't reach out to that person for help.

Just keep on calling! That's what I did to get my tower fixed

So I have been calling and there seemed to be some improvement in that lately I have had 3g service at home is instead of false 4g service that blocks all data.  Is anyone else in Boston noticing this?  or has anyone had a similar problem?

The S4 can't go to CDMA only mode? I find that hard to believe.... Anyone with an S4 confirm that?

I don't have an S4, but I did some quick Google searches and it looks like the CDMA-only option is missing on the Verizon model, but is there on the Sprint version. The link below has a screenshot, and a few posts down somebody references a link to an app that might provide the option:

(P.S. This was kind of a random spot to post a question like that :))

Yea sorry, was trying to reference the complainers point about 4g being locked and claiming they couldn't go to 3g only. Which they could, as you guys pointed out.

Got confirmation from Sprint Care in twitter that the tower located . 02 miles from my condo in Lower Mills Dorchester is being upgraded with network vision. I don't see this tower as being in progress on the Boston map. Anyone know how long it takes on average for the tower to be completed?

depends on what work is being done to it. If they are doing a retrofit, it could be a while. They have to get new panels mounted, and cut-over the base station during their maintenance window.

I've had poor signal for 2 weeks now.. I think it's gonna take a while. I used to have full strength in my condo. Now I'm getting 2 bars if I'm lucky.

Ugh tower restored but no 4g lte and no upgraded 3g. :(

You would think that of he have to go in and fix the tower, they could route some fiber and lte panels to save a trip. Lol jk... Just glad to have a solid connection again.

I am not a complainer and my 4g isn't locked.  The problem is that my phone shows bars of lte service but doesn't connect to any data.  it seems like my phone thinks it has LTE so it doesn't automaticly switch to 3g like it would if 4g was just out of range.  My S4 can switch to 3g CDMA only but it needs to reboot for each switch. It has been a challenging problem to explain to sprint and I was hoping that someone knew what the problem was.

Does anyone know if there are any GMO sites in or around Boston? Are most upgraded sites here full NV, or are some also GMO? I want to know because there's a site near my house and I'm wondering if I'll ever get the full experience.

GMO?  full NV?

GMO sites are going to have less features than full-build sites when they are first upgraded; some will receive more upgrades later on down the road: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-340-sprint-deploys-special-ground-mount-option-network-vision-sites-in-some-low-capacity-and-high-engineering-locations/

Full NV (Network Vision) means a site that is getting a full build, aka a full typical upgrade.

There are nationwide maps of all of the GMO and no-800 sites in the Premier Sponsors section... no sharing outside of there.  Remember that GMO's are the exception rather than the rule.. and most GMO's will eventually get 800 and LTE anyway, just not until later.

If you are near a GMO, look at it as getting some upgrades early instead of getting some upgrades late! :)

Thanks. Would it be reasonable to assume that since the site in question has not yet been upgraded at all (GMO or otherwise) that it will probably get the full upgrade? Since it isn't "early."

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
