Samsung Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge User Thread

Looks like the Spark LTE spinner has been retired. I wonder if Samsung is standardizing the UI across all of their devices.

My wife just got the update. I'm wondering if getting rid of the spinner was a Samsung or Sprint decision?

Did the update help reception at all? I just got my wife the s6 from a original moto x and she says she can't keep calls on the line without dropping them... Thinking about returning it.

Make sure she's up to date on updates. The original software had tons of dropped calls. They fixed it with a software update.

Looks similar to stock Android

Yep, I wonder if this is permanent (e.g. Samsung's doing - which I guess is most likely) or is Sprint prepping to improve Spark branding for CA devices.

I guess we will all know once we see the status bars of the other three carriers Galaxy Note 5's.

Can anyone that's in a B41 area check to see if the spark spinner shows up when connected to B41? We don't have it here so my wife can't check that. I've always said that spinner should just show up when on B41, just curious if that's the case.

Well I called Samsung about my test drive note 5 and I was told my device is on its way to be shipped. What kind of shocked me was the data plan. I don't know if it's too valid but the rep told me that it will only have 2gb of data and if a person goes over then you will be charged for any excess data used. I don't really consider it a test drive as much. I would have thought with it being done on both sprint and T-Mobile that they would have opted to the unlimited data. Oh well I guess

I'm in a full Spark/CA/Glorious area and no matter what band I am connected too it just shows the very simple LTE/Signal combo highlighted a few posts up.

It's also possible that they (Samsung) screwed up the Spark Icon code in the update and it's defaulting back to the Android built-in icon for LTE.  I find it hard to believe that Sprint would depart from this after putting it everywhere (materials, boot animations, signage, etc.), but hey, I'd like that extra notification bar real estate back, so I hope it's changed!

It disappeared on the GS6, 6 Edge, and even some of the LG devices.

And they all look like the stock android LTE logo? I wonder if sprint can create their own logo. Either way it goes I'm glad the sinning dial is gone cause it looked very cheap.

I think anything looks better than that dial and that large LTE lettering.

    • Your referring to the $25.00 a month Infinite Unlimited plan?  I don't see any other plans on there even cheaper than that on their website.  I was looking at the Motorola 2023 Edge fwiw as well for $10.00 a month.
    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
